Terror Suspect Intercepted Conducting Surveillance on KDF Air Force Base

A terror suspect has been intercepted while conducting surveillance on Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) Air Force Base in Eastleigh, Nairobi.

According to information shared by Counter Terrorism and National Security Intelligence (CTNSIS), a male Somali-Canadian was arrested in Eastleigh area of the Capital after he was intercepted conducting surveillance on the KDF Air Force Base.

This comes just a day after Al-Shabaab militants conducted a terror attack on US-Kenya military base in Lamu County.

During the attack, three people, including a US service member and two civilians, were killed.

Two other Department of Defense personnel were wounded in the attack on Camp Simba.

Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) said in a statement on Sunday that “at around 5:30am an attempt was made to breach security at Manda Air Strip.

“The attempted breach was successfully repulsed. Four terrorists’ bodies have so far been found. The airstrip is safe,” the statement added.

The US military command for Africa, AFRICOM, confirmed there had been an attack in a brief statement.

Earlier, al-Shabab said in a statement the raid resulted in “severe casualties on both American and Kenyan troops stationed there”.

“The mujahideen fighters covertly entered enemy lines, successfully stormed the heavily fortified military base and have now taken effective control of a part of the base,” the armed group said.

Al-Shabab claimed it had destroyed seven aircraft and three military vehicles, without providing other details.

It also published pictures of masked gunmen standing next to an aircraft in flames.
