Former Health Cabinet Secretary (CS) Susan Nakhumicha has made a major comeback in the government after landing a state job in the changes made by President William Ruto within the ranks of principal secretaries and the nation’s foreign service.
Nakhumicha has been named as permanent representative at the Permanent Mission of Kenya to the UN Habitat, Nairobi.
This comes just days after Nakhumicha revealed that she now sells cabbages for a living after her abrupt removal from the Cabinet.
Speaking at a memorial service for former Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) chairman Wafula Chebukati in Sabata village, Kiminini Constituency, Trans Nzoia County, on Friday, March 7, 2025, Nakhumicha opened up on her life after government, sparking mixed reactions with a section of leaders from the region calling on Ruto to consider reappointing her.
Nakhumicha went ahead to reveal that she had learned of her dismissal through a televised announcement.
“Majen Z, Gen Z wanaanguka na watu wakaanguka na mimi. Bishop amehubiri hapa akasema siku za Moi ilikua matangazo wa redio. Hii nayo yetu hata haikua ya redio, ilikua kwa TV unangojea. Nikaskia cabinet yote nyumbani. Nikaona watu wamefurahi kila mahali wamefurahi wamefurahi,” she said.
Nakhumicha revealed that she had turned to cabbage farming and that she was struggling to make ends meet.
Nakhumicha was part of the state officers that were left out when Ruto announced his broad-based government Cabinet days after he had dissolved his entire Cabinet as a result of the widespread anti-government protests in July 2024.
