by Daily Trends

A United Democratic Alliance (UDA) politician is fighting for his life in hospital after being accosted by unknown assailants who shot him four times.

Nicholas Lorot, an Isiolo Member of County Assembly for Burat Ward who was elected on the ruling UDA ticket, was ambushed on the night of Wednesday, March 26, 2025, shortly after his meeting with a senior county official within Isiolo town.

The MCA was rushed to St. Theresa Mission Hospital in Kiirua, Meru County, for medical attention, where he is still hospitalized for gunshot wounds.

He is known to be frequently at odds with Governor Abdi Guyo’s administration on key governance and resource allocation matters.

While the motive for his attack remains unclear, a section of Kenyans has linked it to his advocacy work, as he is actively involved in advocating for community land rights, which has often seen him engage in heated disputes with both county officials and private developers.

The incident saw the MCA lose his thumb while attempting to deflect the gunshot with his right hand and sustained two additional gunshot wounds in the same arm.

The Isiolo County Assembly has since confirmed the incident and condemned those behind the attack, revealing that they were working closely with security agencies to bring the perpetrators to justice.
