The Football Kenya Federation (FKF) has suspended Kakamega Homeboyz FC goalkeeper Patrick Matasi for a period of 90 days.

The suspension follows a viral video that is doing rounds on social media, linking the former Harambee Stars shot stopper to match fixing.

In the video, an unidentified person—possibly a recruiter—gives instructions on what to do next, and Matasi seems to be listening and nodding in agreement.

FKF on Matasi suspension

FKF, in a statement issued on Thursday, March 27, 2025, said it had provisionally suspended Matasi from all FKF-sanctioned events and competitions for 90 days, following concerns raised by circulating videos suggesting possible match manipulation.

According to FKF, the decision to suspend Matasi was made in accordance with Section VII (2) of the FKF Anti-Match Manipulation Regulations (2016), and has been formally communicated to his club, Kakamega Homeboyz FC.

“The Football Kenya Federation (FKF) has provisionally suspended goalkeeper Patrick Matasi from all FKF-sanctioned events and competitions for 90 days, following concerns raised by circulating videos suggesting possible match manipulation. The decision, made in accordance with Section VII (2) of the FKF Anti-Match Manipulation Regulations (2016), has been formally communicated to Kakamega Homeboyz FC and the player,” the FKF statement read.

Investigating Match Fixing claims

Investigations into the claims have since been launched, with FKF promising to issue updates once the process is done.

“FKF, in collaboration with FIFA, CAF, and other relevant authorities, has initiated an official investigation into the matter. The Federation remains committed to upholding integrity in football and ensuring a fair and transparent process for all involved parties. Further updates will be provided as the investigation progresses,” FKF stated.

Matasi has, however, denied that the person in the video was not him, claiming that his enemies are working to ruin his reputation.

Kakamega Homeboyz Chairman and owner Cleophas Shimanyula has also defended Matasi, noting that he had reached out to him and that the goalkeeper had denied the claims.

Matasi, who also played for Tusker FC, AFC Leopards, and Saint Georges FC in Ethiopia, was recently let go by Kenya Police FC under unclear circumstances.
