President Uhuru Kenyatta on Tuesday June 2 chaired a Jubilee party Parliamentary Group Meeting at State House, Nairobi.

However, Deputy President William Ruto’s allies came out of the meeting crying foul.

Uhuru is said to have fired a salvo at Ruto allies saying he will fight off any attempts to turn him into a lame-duck president. The insults Tanga Tanga camp have been throwing at the head of state in their meetings came back to haunt them.

The President told the lawmakers that he was privileged with daily briefs about the insults they make in their native languages across the country.

“Some of you have gone as far as saying that I don’t know what I am doing and that they are the ones who have done all the development projects in the country,” Uhuru said.

North Mugirango MP Joash Nyamoko who attended the meeting told a local daily that the President told the lawmakers to desist from early campaigns and respect the institution of the Presidency.

“The President directed us to focus our energies and efforts in ensuring that we collectively deliver on the pledges and promises we made to Kenyans,” Nyamoko said.

But Soy MP Caleb Kositany complained that the meeting was but a monologue.

“It was unfortunate that the President talked to us angrily without giving us an opportunity to air our concerns,” the Jubilee Party deputy secretary general said.

He went on, “It is sad that we had to wait for this meeting for three years only for us to be called and the only agenda is to be insulted.”

He said Uhuru was “visibly angry” and he did not allow anyone else other than Jbilee Secretary General Raphael Tuju and DP Ruto to speak.

“It is a sad day for democracy. None of us talked and he did not state his agenda for us in Parliament,” Kositany said.

“Walter Githinji “Jimmy Wayuni” was a diligent, prolific, creative and talented musician with a melodious voice that made his songs such as Airítu a Ruiru, Mama Sululu, Wayuni Útúire Uhenagia, among others, outstanding,” reads part of his post.

The DP further notes that through his numbers, Jimmy Wayuni advocated for social justice, condemned bad governance, glorified good leadership and worked towards bringing people together.

“Through his numbers, Jimmy Wayuni advocated for social justice, condemned bad governance, glorified good leadership and worked towards bringing people together. We will miss his humility, resilience and focus,” Ruto tweeted.

The celebrated musician died after his car rammed into a lorry at Kahawa Sukari near Githurai 45, as he headed to Nairobi from Ruiru, Kiambu County.

Wayuni, a retired Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) deputy commissioner was going to drop off a fellow musician when the fatal crash occurred.

His friend, Jacksam Kibandi, survived the crash and is in hospital.

Besides music, the retired taxman also had an interest in filmmaking, having acted in several home-grown movies.

Narok senator Ledama Olekina on Tuesday May 26 surrendered his senate Public Accounts Committee chairmanship seat.

This is after the vocal lawmaker met the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party leader Raila Odinga this morning.

Ledama also agreed to withdraw the case he had filed against the ODM party following the party’s decision to remove him from the seat, and dewhip him.

Raila, through his official twitter account said that Ledama had agreed to the decisions after they held a meeting. Raila also revealed that the Narok senator had apologized to the party following his decision.

In return, the former Prime Minister said that he had instructed the party to reverse the decision to dewhip the Senator.

“Senator @ledamalekina has this morning agreed to withdraw the case he had filed against @TheODMparty over the Senate Public Accounts Committee chairmanship, surrendered the seat and apologized. In return I’ve instructed the party to reverse the decision to dewhip the Senator,” Raila tweeted.

Early this month, ODM through Minority Leader James Orengo, gave notice to discharge the senator from the County Public Accounts and Investments Committee (CPAIK).

Olekina contested and won the election against his party’s preferred candidate Kisii Senator Sam Ongeri after being backed by Jubilee senators.

He had already chaired the CPAIC’s first meeting when Senate minority leader James Orengo (ODM) gave a notice indicating the party’s wish to dewhip him from the CPAIC and the Senate Business Committee (SBC).

Olekina had vowed to fight the removal, a move that saw him file a case against the Orange party.

Tanzania’s President John Pombe Magufuli has ordered public transport to resume normal operations without any adherence to Covid-19 restrictions.

This comes a day after he banned the use of face masks.

Magufuli through a press statement dated May 24 banned wearing of face masks on grounds that they create tension among Tanzania residents, with some closing down their businesses due to fear.

Magufuli allowed Public Service Vehicles to start carrying passengers to maximum as before. He has also ordered all schools to reopen.

He urged Tanzanians to thank God that they had defeated coronavirus pandemic, citing that they should only continue washing their hands since it is just a matter of good hygiene.

Image

Magufuli has said the number of coronavirus patients in hospitals is declining, although the government has not released data on infection rates for many weeks.

The president has repeatedly downplayed the risk of the pandemic, causing alarm among neighbouring African countries and international organisations.

The government has even urged Tanzanians to dedicate three days for thanksgiving this weekend as they say they’re beating the virus.

The main issue is that there’s been no official data on the coronavirus for weeks, and there are concerns that the authorities are trying to downplay the extent of the outbreak.

Doctors and healthcare professionals are afraid to speak out about coronavirus because of a climate of fear.

Former sports minister Rashid Echesa is now using coronavirus pandemic as an excuse to get his impounded high-end cars back.

Echesa has asked a Nairobi court to order the release of his Range Rover so as to allow him make necessary travels.

Echesa, through his lawyer Bryan Khaemba, told Milimani Senior Principal Magistrate that ever since his vehicle was confiscated on March 2, 2020, he has been forced to use public transport.

On March 11, 2020, Echesa filed an application in court seeking to have his vehicle, a Range Rover model of registration plate KCR 786H, returned to him.

And now, Khaemba has gone back to court on his client’s behalf; this time around, arguing Echesa could catch coronavirus – “which is life-threatening” — should he continue using public transport.

In the March 11 application, Echesa also urged the court to instruct the DCI to release his two pistols, arguing that being a former Cabinet minister, his life can be on the line, and, therefore, he needs the guns to enhance his security.

He wanted the firearms — a Beretta 92 and a Ceska pistol — released pending the hearing and determination of his case.

Also confiscated, Echesa claimed, were his 104 9mm rounds of ammunition, three gun holsters and a Ceska magazine.

The Ugandan Ministry of Health on Tuesday confirmed three more positive Coronavirus cases from among Kenyan truck drivers.

The three were found to have the infection after being tested in Uganda, bringing the country’s total number of cases to 97.

This comes after six other tested positive last week an repatriated back to the country for medical care.

The drivers had registered a complaint that they were being subjected to mandatory tests at the Malaba border point and being detained in Uganda for long periods of time.

Image

This brings the total number of Kenyan drivers who turned positive in Uganda to 17.

Up to date, a total of 37 truck drivers have tested positive, with 14 from Tanzania, four from Uganda, one from Burundi and the other one from Rwanda.

While responding to the concern, Health CS Mutahi Kagwe on Tuesday asked the truckers to ensure they are tested in Mombasa and given a certificate to present at Malaba to avoid inconveniences.

“That is the agreement we have with the Ugandan and Rwandan governments on this. If you are ferrying goods from Mombasa to Uganda then you must be tested in Mombasa so that you are certified to travel. If you avoid being tested in Mombasa then you will definitely be delayed at the border because they will have to test you on the Ugandan side,” he clarified.

At least four Cabinet Secretaries are reportedly on their way out in a looming Cabinet reshuffle.

According to reports, two of the Cabinet Secretaries are allied to Deputy President William Ruto with the remaining two two on President Uhuru Kenyatta’s side.

Daily Nation on Monday, May 4 reported that a powerful Cabinet Secretary is also to be moved to a lesser ministry.

The Cabinet reshuffle comes after an alleged meeting between Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) leader Raila Odinga, Kenya African National Union (KANU) party leader Gideon Moi and Central Organization of Trade Unions (COTU) boss Francis Atwoli.

Others said to have attended the meetings are former Cabinet Minister Paul Otuoma and Siaya Senator James Orengo.

According to Tiaty MP William Kamket, the changes were inevitable and would come “in any form, at any time”.

He claims that Ruto had failed in his role of supporting the President.

“Between William Ruto and Raila Odinga, who supports President Kenyatta? Between Gideon Moi and William Ruto, who supports the President’s agenda?

“The answer is clear, these two leaders are not meant to be just choir members in this government when some people viciously attack it.

“The President has been quiet when they make noise, attack him and now it is time to act. He has waited for them to make true their threats and to walk out but they are hesitant. It is now time to kick them out, and it will happen very soon,” he stated.

Police in Eldoret have lobbied teargas canisters at Tanga Tanga MP Dr. Swarup Mishra who was donating foodstuff to Muslims in Uasin Gishu.

He was forced to run for his safety while the Muslim faithfuls were dispersed.

“I was giving food stuff to Muslims at Jamia mosques and Huddah Muslim when the police threw teargas canisters. I don’t know the mistake I committed to deserve that,” said the deputy President William Ruto allied MP.

He condemned the police for using teargas to disperse Muslims who had not committed any crime.

Dr. Mishra was distributing foodstuffs to over 1000 Muslim Muslim households living in Uasin Gishu at  Huddah Muslim School and Jamia Mosque in Eldoret town.

The Kesses legislator further refuted claims on social media that he gives food donation to get political mileage.

“I want to state here here without fear or contradiction that I usually give foodstuff to help the needy in the society who cannot afford a single meal per day and not for my own political gain,” said the deputy president William Ruto allied MP.

“Let me tell you nobody is rich and nobody is poor only God is rich and am giving the food to show the love and care to the less fortunate,” added the Kesses legislator.

He called on Kenyans to strictly follow the directives by the government to prevent further spread of coronavirus which has so far infected 435 Kenyans and claimed 23 lives.

“Ensure that you wash your hands before and after every activity, observing social distance, avoiding overcrowded areas putting in Facemask and staying at home if possible,” Dr. Mishra said.

Police in Nakuru East have arrested the county’s former deputy mayor, Joseph Munyiri, on allegations of causing grievous bodily harm to his wife, Joyce Wangui.

The couple’s fight started after Munyiri, 36, on Monday afternoon (April 27) allegedly went to his spouse’s electronics shop in Menengai Ward, Nakuru East and sold a 32-inch TV set to his friend at Ksh2, 000 without his wife’s knowledge or approval.

Munyiri is also said to have failed to record the sale of the TV set in the sales record-keeping book, prompting his wife, 36, to ask him why he hadn’t registered the transaction.

Later Monday evening, when Munyiri and his partner returned home, the ex-deputy mayor is said to have descended on Wangui with kicks and blows, causing her dental trauma and grievous injuries to the face and ears.

The suspect is alleged to have been angered after his partner “challenged his authority as the head of the family in front of his friends”.

Wangui, who has sought treatment at Nakuru Mediheal Hospital, told police that it wasn’t the first time her spouse was meting out violence on her.

“He has anger problems. While beating me up yesterday (Monday, April 27), he threatened he would kill me. He even followed me to hospital as I went to seek treatment,” said Wangui.

“He often brags that he is the man of the house, whose authority shouldn’t be questioned by his wife. He often says he has a right to sell anything at my shop without seeking my consent,” said Wangui.

The two have been married for nearly 20 years, and have seven children together.

Munyiri is being held at a Menengai police station.

“I urge the Government to ensure I get justice,” said Wangui.

The former deputy mayor vied for Menengai Ward Jubilee Party ticket in the run-up to 2017 general election, but lost.

Ever since, he has been eking a living out of selling second-hand clothes in Nakuru Town.

A report by the Kenya Demographic and Health Survey (KDHS) shows that 85 per cent of domestic violence victims in the world are women.

In Kenya, 40 per cent of all married women have been abused at one point or another in their relationship, a figure that is higher than the global average of 30 per cent.

Former State House Director of Digital and Diaspora Communication Dennis Itumbi has badly exposed renown political analyst Mutahi Ngunyi.

Mutahi Ngunyi had been earlier accused of scripting last Sunday’s Punchline show, a political talk show that airs every Sunday night on K24 Tv, hosted by Anne Kiguta.

In the show, Mutahi Ngunyi was the main guest, among several others.

During the show, a scathing attack was launched against Deputy President Dr William Ruto, with even the host declaring using facts, that the second in command will never be the President of Kenya.

Anne Kiguta, on behalf of K24 TV, stated that DP Ruto had no chance of becoming President in 2022.

She said K24 TV had made the prediction after observing the infighting for the control of Jubilee Party over the past week.

Kiguta said there was no doubt that President Uhuru Kenyatta had a fall out with his deputy who she accused of faking togetherness where there was none.

While reporting these events that have followed, we have often debated why the DP has stayed where he is clearly not wanted, why face the humiliation? why create the illusion that all is well while clearly, it’s not? why create the image of togetherness where there is none? How does it benefit the DP?

For many of DP’s allies is that they have mistakenly thought that they could force the President into the past days working together…we observe only way out for the DP and that its – stop fighting reality. Living in the real world as horrible as it is frees you to make decisions that can work in the present,” K24’s editorial continued as read out by Ms Kiguta.

However, Itumbi on the morning of Friday April 24, revealed that it was Mutahi Ngunyi who scripted the editorial piece that was read by Anne Kiguta.

Itumbi went ahead to reveal that it was indeed Mutahi Ngunyi who invited guests on the show. To prove this, Itumbi exposed private chats that Mutahi Ngunyi had with some of the guests on the show.

Image

“Goodmorning my Friend @MutahiNgunyi – Be slow to DENY next time buddy. You not only scripted #Punchline for @AnneKiguta – You also invited guests to the show. #SystemYaFacts,” he tweeted.

On April 20, Mutahi Ngunyi had denied the allegations of scripting the editorial piece for K24 TV, arguing that the editorial had nothing but panashe.

“Hello my FREN @OleItumbi. I think @AnneKiguta Editorial on #Punchline had NOTHING but Panashe (google word). And thanks for SUGGESTING that I wrote it with my @5thestateKE gang. In the MEANTIME, read a BOOK my FREN! It makes a lot of DIFFERENCE! ” he posted.

By the time of publishing this article, Mutahi Ngunyi had not yet responded to Dennis Itumbi’s latest allegations.

The National government is using COVID-19 pandemic to play a dirty game, Nyali Member of Parliament Mohammed Ali has revealed.

Through his social media handles, the journalist-turned politician revealed how the government orchestrated a clever move to send MPs home so as to implement taxation measures, supplementary budget and the Ksh 3 Trillion 2020/2021 Estimates.

According to the Nyali lawmaker, all this is set to happen without any parliamentary approval.

He further reveals that the locking down of Nairobi, where both National Assembly and the senate are situated, was a move to paralyze lawmaker’s efforts to access Nairobi.

The MP says that the government want to pass a rotten COVID-19 budget by setting up the MPs.

He went ahead to blame the media for allowing themselves to be used by the state by running controversial headlines the portray MPs in a bad manner.

On Monday morning, the Standard newspaper ran a headline titled “The Traitors”, which referred to the MPs.

At is at this point that MPs started making revelations about the circumstances that led to the suspension of their sittings.

Gatundu South MP Moses Kuria on Monday morning also took to his social media handles to make similar revelations.

Image

Below is Mohammed Ali’s post on his facebook page.

“As I said earlier, the cancellation of the Special Sittings of the National Assembly and the Senate (Both of them located within Nairobi) had little to do with COVID-19. It is a clever orchestration to implement taxation measures, supplementary budget and the Ksh 3 Trillion 2020/2021 Estimates without parliamentary approval, a clear by – pass of the country’s laws.

“The SYSTEM want us to pass a rotten Covid budget by setting us up. If we dont pass it we appear bad in the eyes of the public. Somebody is trying to redeem himself unfortunately using corona virus pandemic. The Standard newspaper today in its typical art of spin and propaganda has deliberately chosen to forsake the truth and is now collectively reprimanding parliament despite the fact that many of us have been calling for the reconvention of parliament as early as March.

“This is not only dishonest but also portray a media house hellbent on driving the Executive’s agenda at whatever cost; the tenets of impartial journalism notwithstanding.

“Hii ukora naielewa. I know a REAL JOURNALIST SCRIPT and the SYSTEM ONE. They tried with the STAR NEWSPAPER- SMART PEOPLE READ THE SUN but it didn’t work. To the standard and star newspapers kumbukeni MSICHANA WA BAR HATONGOZWI ASUBUHI. Wakenya wanataka pesa zao msitumiwe kuwasaidia WAKORA kuiba kwa kuwafanya wengine waonekane wabaya Ili Bunge isifunguliwe. TRUTH is my WEAKNESS. I refuse to die! ” reads the post.

Senate Minority Leader James Orengo on Tuesday April 7, 2020 tore into speakers of both houses, the senate speaker Ken Lusaka and the National Assembly speaker Justin Muturi.

This is after the duo went ahead to dismiss the sittings of both houses amid he coronavirus pandemic.

The Siaya County senator has dismissed the move by both speakers, accusing them of going against the parliamentary rules and laws.

In a letter dated April 7 and seen by Dailytrends.co.ke , Orengo terms the move by the two house speakers as constitutional.

The senior counsel notes that these are difficult terms where all organs of the government must work together in harmony and unison to deal with the worst health scourge.

He cites that even in these hard times of coronvirus pandemic, the constitution and the rule of law have not been suspended, and thus, they must be followed by each and everyone.

He however, regrets that speakers Lusaka and Muturi arbitrarily suspended lawfully convened sittings of the National Assembly and the senate.

“But even in these hard times the constitution and the rule of law have not been suspended. It is regrettable that speakers of both houses of Parliament have arbitrarily suspended lawfully convened sittings of the National Assembly and the senate,” reads part of the letter.

Orengo goes on to note that no consultations were undertaken with the leadership of both houses or apopropriate committees of parliament to ensure strict compliance with law the law and the rules of parliament.

He says that the senate and parliament operate on a calendar and can never be prorogued or have its sittings suspended by any form of device or craft.
