Was it mere luck or prowess in predicting matches? A punter did the unthinkable and correctly predicted 4 correct score bets on 4 games via Odibets, which is one of the few licensed betting companies in Kenya.

Oh, and that’s only one crazy part of the story. His win came from a bet against 8976 odds and a stake of 100/= which secured 718,080/= for him.

Unbelievable, right?

Dalton Kisaka, a pump attendant from Taita Taveta, has placed over 300 football bets with Odibets since joining and correct scores are his favorite markets.

“Strikers and teams should score goals and that’s why my choice of bets are correct score markets. Odibets has boosted odds on them,” he says.

“It is not easy to bet like this because the odds are so against you. However, the wins cover everything. I rarely bet on more than 3 games but my wins are huge,” Kisaka adds while encouraging Kenyans to join Odibets because of the boosted odds and fast loading website.

Speaking during the winners’ unveiling, Odibets Country Marketing Manager Aggrey Sayi said that Odibets is focused on giving a better betting experience to customers with various options in the betting marketing that are breathtaking.

“We offer up to 120 markets to ensure that we take bets for nearly every interesting outcome on events. The best way to experience is to join and to redeem your two free bets,” Sayi concludes.

Central Bank of Kenya Governor Dr Patrick Njoroge has revealed the amount of money in old Ksh 1000 the state was able to collect in the just concluded demonetisation exercise.

Speaking during a press conference at the CBK headquarters in Nairobi on Wednesday, Njoroge said that the State has collected 209.66 million old-generation Ksh1, 000 notes out of the 217 million pieces that were in circulation by September 30

Njoroge said that throughout the exercise that began on Madaraka Day, June 1, the State flagged 3, 172 suspicions transactions.

He noted that Kenya had two reasons which triggered the demonisation exercise.

“Demonetisation is done for a number of reasons. In Kenya, we did it for two reasons: the first one, was to deal with illicit financial flows in Kenya and other countries. The second reason was that we needed to deal with counterfeiting of the Kenyan currency; the bank note of choice was Ksh1, 000,” said Njoroge.

“We did not do that to destabilise your financial position,” he added.

The CBK chief said the regulator chose a 4-month window to wipe out the old-generation Ksh1, 000 notes so as to give Kenyans ample time to exchange the old money with new tender.

“There are two general approaches to demonitisation. The first one is what is called the shock approach, where you demonitise overnight. This happens where there is significant dislocations in the economy. The other approach is the gradual approach, which minimises disruptions to the economy and also enhance the effectiveness in addressing the objectives; in our case, it is corruption, money-laundering and tax evasion,” said Njoroge.

“There are some questions that Kenyans asked throughout the exercise: Some said: ‘was 4 months enough’? Others said: ‘Was 4 months too much? Maybe we should have done 2 months’. We had to strike a balance between being overly generous for the common mwananchi to allow them a lot of time to exchange the old money,” said Njoroge.

Makueni Governor Kivutha Kibwana has cautioned a Senate committee against being used by malicious people to taint his good reputation.

Kibwana accused the Senate’s watchdog team of accepting documents that are not procedurally correct before the House.

The governor was speaking on Tuesday at the Makueni County Assembly when he appeared before the committee to answer questions over alleged loss of Sh1.4 billion through fraudulent procurement, conflict of interest and money laundering by this administration.

Senators queried the quality of the Auditor-General’s report that gave the Kibwana administration a clean bill of health in the 2017/18 Financial Year report.

“I am beginning to question the rigour and the seriousness the auditors who were sent to Makueni County had. I am beginning to think that is a lazy report,” said committee chair Moses Kajwang’.

Kenya Ferry Services has ordered for the closure of the Likoni Ferry Channel for two hours as operations to retrieve the bodies of a mother and her daughter who drowned at the Indian Ocean enters day two.

The channel is to remain closed from 9:00 am to 11:00am.

Locals have flocked the Likoni Ferry in Mombasa ahead of closure of the channel.

The family of 35-year-old Mariam Kigenda and her 4-year-old daughter, Amanda Mutheu, have been forced to hire private divers to retrieve their loved ones’ bodies after the exercise was called off Tuesday evening.

The State, through key agencies, including the Kenya Ferry Services and the Kenya Ports Authority, had launched a search for the bodies on Monday, a day after Kigenda and her child plunged into the sea while aboard their vehicle, which slid off MV Harambee Ferry.

Two days later, the bodies are yet to be removed from the waterbody.

Transportation of passengers across the Likoni channel was Tuesday afternoon temporarily halted to allow the Kenya Navy, Kenya Ports Authority officers and Kenya Coast Guard Services officers to get into the water and retrieve the victims’ bodies.

The temporary closure of the channel lasted over 30 minutes.

The Kenya Ferry Services managing director, Bakari Gowa, said Mariam’s body and that of her child, Amanda Mutheu, were spotted 75 feet (23 meters) under the water surface.

The vehicle which they were travelling in, a Toyota Isis, was located 173 feet (53 meters) below the water surface.

And following the unsuccessful operation by the State to remove the bodies from the sea, Kigenda’s family now says they have “lost hope” in government agencies, and have sought help from private divers known to have successfully undertaken a similar exercise.

By Tuesday evening, Kigenda’s family had already paid Ksh100, 000 to a private company – Kenya Rescue Divers – to undertake the exercise, said the family spokesperson Luka Mbati.

Deputy President Dr William Ruto is known for criss-crossing the country launching various development projects with some Kenyans speculating that it is a strategy of earning himself a political mileage ahead of 2022 presidential race.

The DP has launched various projects in Western Kenya region and other parts of the country. But are all of these projects normally ready before he launches them?

Well, the DP is in a spot for prematurely launching a Sh5.3 billion irrigation project without the knowledge of line ministries.

According to the Standard, Ruto launched the Lower Nzoia irrigation and flood mitigation project on June 7 when it was not ready for commissioning due to pending compensation for land owners.

Water and Sanitation Principal Secretary Joseph Irungu on Tuesday told the National Assembly’s Public Accounts Committee there was no formal communication that Ruto was to launch the project.

Mr Irungu said they were still addressing compensation delays for affected families in Busia and Siaya Counties.

The Opiyo Wandayi-led team also heard that the National Land Commission (NLC) and National Irrigation Board (NIB) were not involved in the launch.

NIB is the implementing agency while NLC is involved in land acquisition for the project that is meant to end perennial flooding as well as help to increase food production.

“There was no contact between the DP’s office and my office. Even my project engineer was not there. Compensation is a very sensitive matter, which we must handle well,” said Irungu.

However, Water Cabinet Secretary Simon Chelugui was present for the launch.

Malindi Member of Parliament Aisha Jumwa on Tuesday was the talk of the day after she met ODM party leader Raila Odinga, a move that shocked many Kenyans.

Jumwa who is a rebel member of the ODM party is currently allied to deputy president Dr William Ruto. Her meeting with Raila at her Parliamentary Service Commission Office on Tuesday afternoon came after Raila’s ODM Parliamentary Group meeting at County Hall which Jumwa never attended.

In a tweet that was immediately pulled down, ODM said that the rebel MP was back to the party since it was her DNA and that she had vowed to support and campaign for ODM candidate in Kibra by-elections Bernard Imran Okoth.

Image

But later on, Aisha Jumwa denied having dumped DP Ruto nor endorsing Imran for Kibra seat.

She said through her social media account that Raila had only made a surprise visit to her Parliamentary Service Commission Office and that she was not even aware of the ODM Parliamentary Group meeting at County Hall.

Well, was the Opposition leader’s meeting at Malindi MP’s office a coincidence or was it planned?

Reports by a local daily says that Loyal women MPs allied to Raila were not amused after he visited the office of the rebel Malindi MP yesterday.

Aisha seemed to have been in communication with Raila. After the  ODM Parliamentary Group meeting, Raila went straight to Aisha’s swanky office.

Surprisingly, this happened despite Aisha’s boycott of the ODM PG.

The women MPs were grumbling in the corridors of Parliament, wondering how Aisha manages to capture the attention of top political bosses across the divide.

She’s DP William Ruto’s cheerleader at the Coast and shortly after meeting Raila, she met Ruto alongside other Jubilee legislators in a bid to support Jubilee candidate McDonald Mariga’s Kibra parliamentary race.

Then what was it that ODM said she had vowed to campaign for Imran?

“This evening I did join the Deputy President William Ruto and other legislators and meet up with Devine church elders and pastors at Mash Park Hotel Nairobi in a bid to support Mariga for Kibra Constituency,” reads Aisha Jumwa’s facebook post.

A 30-year-old man is on the run after killing seven people and injuring several others at Muriri market and along the Muriri-Isiolo Road on Monday.

Joseph Kileru, a businessman, is said to have gone berserk before randomly attacking people, including school children.

The businessman disappeared after the attack and police spent Monday night tracking him in vain.

Angry locals camped at this Muriri market shop forcing his family to flee to safety.

Confirming the incident, local police boss Peter Karanja told  a local daily that they are hunting the assailaint whom he said is armed with a panga (machete) and other crude weapons.

The local OCS has also issued a shoot to kill order once the assailant is spotted.

Kileru’s wife, Gasheri, said her husband went wild at about 3 pm and threatened to kill her and their three children.

Gasheri said that Kileru vowed to murder at least 50 people and then commit suicide.

The terrified wife said she sensed danger but her effort to stop him from his evil thoughts proved futile as he proceeded to pick a sharp panga and car keys.

“He started behaving funny from Sunday when a man of Somali origin came to the shop. We were both busy but I heard the stranger threaten by husband saying he killed his camel and they are soon coming for him”, she said.

The mother of three, who is also expectant, said that she tried to intervene by asking the stranger if they could compensate him for the camel if her husband killed it.

But Gasheri said her husband dismissed her idea and rudely turned the man away.

Afterward, Gasheri said her husband confessed he attacked a camel with a machete at Kiremu because it had blocked is path and broke his car windscreen.

The incident, her husband confessed, took place when he attended a burial of a herder who was killed by a bandit at Kaongo.

“I did not know if the camel died but it broke my windscreen and I became furious,” she quoted.

Gasheri said despite the death threats, everything else seemed normal at their shop on Monday but then he became paranoid, saying he cannot just seat and wait to be killed over the camel.

“I don’t know what went wrong or what those camel owners have done to him. At about 4pm, he suddenly started shouting at me saying I will clear you and others before I take my own life. I cannot wait for them to kill me alone. And that is the time he picked the car keys and went out. In no time, I heard people creaming in the market and I got out quickly and I was shocked to see him run over people,” she said.

Afraid he would turn on her, she said she quickly ran home to pick and shield her children.

According to an eyewitness, Kileru intentionally rammed into a stationary car and sped towards the market where he ran over several people, seriously injuring five women.

The women were taken to Meru Level Five Hospital for treatment.

The eyewitnesses said his car hit a post and stalled but then he dashed out with a machete and randomly attacked everyone in sight, sending people scampering to safety.

He proceeded to a nearby Kamanoro bar where he attacked and killed a waiter on the spot, then marched on to a butchery where he inflicted serious panga cuts to an unsuspecting butcher.

In panic, people ran for cover as shop owners hurriedly closed their businesses.

Kileru is aid to have picked a motorcycle and sped towards Muriri-Isiolo Road where he is alleged to have attacked several others, including children on their way home from school.

According to K24 Digital, Kileru later attacked other people at night at Lailuba, Kiremu and Athwana in Tigania West but the reports have not been verified by police officers.

“For now, he is a dangerous person and we are calling on locals to keep vigilant and be safe because he could be armed with some other serious weapons and he is using a motorbike,” said the local police boss Karanja.

Sarah Wairimu’s lawyer, Philip Murgor on Tuesday came out guns blazing against prosecution’s claim that he is still a state counsel.

Murgor told High Court Judge Stella Mutuku that he recopied Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) Noordin Haji his resignation via WhatsApp.

“I recopied Noording Haji my resignation via WhatsApp and he replied ‘It is OK’,” Murgor said.

The state prosecution filed an application last week seeking to have Murgor removed from the case, saying that he was still a DPP staff.

Murgor is representing Wairimu in the case she is accused of murdering her Dutch husband Tob Cohen.

Despite Murgor’s statement, the prosecution insist that they have evidence that the former DPP is still a state officer.

“I can confirm that the gazette notice has not been revoked,” said state prosecutor Catherine Mutuku.

Justice Mutuku said she will rule on the status of Murgor on Thursday, October 3.

Murgor claimed that the prosecution want him off the case because his presence intimidates them.

Wairimu has not yet taken plea over the murder charge.

Last week, she was allowed to attend Cohen’s burial at the Jewish cemetery near Pangani, but under tight security.

KTN News show presenter has faulted Kenyans over Likoni ferry tragedy that saw a woman and her four-year daughter lose their lives after their car slid off the ferry on Sunday evening plunging 60 meters deep the Indian Ocean.

Kenyans have been criticizing the government over the tragedy, arguing that little is being done by the state to retrieve the bodies of the victims.

Some are arguing that the government has been careless to allow nonseaworthy ferries to carry on with their operations along different crossing channels at the Kenyan Coast.

But taking to his twitter account on Tuesday morning, KTN PointBlank presenter Tony Gachoka faulted Kenyans for blaming the government for everything as he questioned the role of a citizen.

Efforts to retrieve the bodies and the car have been futile, 48 hours later.

The operation is however still going on after the government on Monday sourced for diving equipment from a South African company to help undertake the operation.

Mariam Kigenda Taita, 35, and her four-year-old daughter died after the vehicle they were traveling in slid off MV Harambee Sunday evening.

The family’s relatives, including Mariam’s husband on Monday camped at the Likoni channel as they waited in vain for KFS to retrieve the bodies of their kin.

Frustrated, they faulted the government for not doing enough especially since in navy officers could be seen nearby conducting drills.

A Moroccan journalist has been sentenced to a year in prison for premarital sex and having an abortion, in a case activists say is part of a crackdown on critical reporters.

Hajar Raissouni was arrested with her fiancé as they left a gynaecologist’s clinic in the capital, Rabat, in August.

According to BBC News, the 28-year-old denied the charges, saying she had sought treatment for internal bleeding.

Ms Raissouni works for an independent newspaper critical of the authorities.

A journalist at the Akhbar Al-Yaoum daily, she denounced the case against her as a “political trial”, saying she had been questioned by police about her family and her writing.

Wearing a black veil covering her head, Ms Raissouni appeared calm on arrival at the courtroom in Rabat. She and her fiancé, a Sudanese national, denied that an abortion had taken place.
