Caroline Kangogo, the female police officer who allegedly shot herself after killing two of her colleagues was finally laid to rest on Thursday July 29, 2021.

Hundreds of mourners turned up for the burial that was conducted at Nyawa village in Iten, Elgeyo Marakwet County.

Her husband Ngeno, who is a police officer at Maritime Police Unit in Mombasa County attended the burial. During the burial service, the husband is said to have made one request, which he was granted.

Reliable sources at the burial event revealed that the late Kangogo’s husband who was in the company of his parents requested not to be allowed to speak.

He sat near his daughter and son, who also travelled to pay their last respect to their mother.

The officer sat in the same dais as Kangogo’s parents and maintained his cool and hid his emotions behind dark sunglasses.

Reports indicate that Kangogo’s husband declined to address the mourners owing to the controversy surrounding her death. The children too did not speak.

Kangogo’s brother read the eulogy on the parent’s behalf, as they too requested not to speak.

Her parents are said to have refuted allegations that their relationship with Kangogo’s husband had turned sour.

In her suicide note that was recovered at the scene of her death, Kangogo claimed that her husband was the source of her woes.

In the message saved as a draft on her phone, the corporal reportedly wrote that she never found peace after the husband allegedly left her for another woman.

The embattled couple were allegedly entangled in a messy divorce case.

Kangogo, who was accused of assassinating two individuals, police constable John Ogweno and security expert Peter Ndigwa, claimed that she spared the life of her husband.

The body of police constable Caroline Kangogo arrived at her parents’ Nyawa village home in Elgeyo Marakwet county on Thursday for burial.

The body was fitted with a wedding dress as per Kangogo’s request in a draft text message found after her death.

Her father Barnabas and mother Leah Kangogo led mourners in collecting the body from Iten County Refferal Hospital morgue.

Officers from Nakuru where Kangogo served were present at the burial, as well as hundreds of residents.

The body was ferried in a hearse and police were not involved in transporting it to the home.

Kangogo’s brother Mark said the family will give Caroline a decent burial.

Chief government pathologist Johansen Oduor carried out a postmortem on Tuesday, which revealed Kangogo died from a single gunshot wound to the head that damaged her brain and skull.

Caroline Kangogo’s father Barnabas and her mother Leah Kangogo led the mourners to collect the body ahead of the burial.

Her body was cleared for burial on Tuesday, after an autopsy conducted by Chief government pathologist Dr. Johansen Oduor.

According to sources at the event, ten of Kangogo’s colleagues attended the burial but did not give her full police honours as accorded to deceased officers.

Reports indicate that they were only acknowledged by being told to wave to those in attendance. They did not get a chance to issue any remarks.

Caroline Kangogo's funeral

The autopsy conducted on the body of police constable Caroline Kangogo by government pathologist Johansen Oduor suggested that she died of a gunshot wound after a bullet went through her brain, head and skull.

The burial was scheduled for last Saturday but the autopsy had not been conducted and hence the family could not push through with the plan.

“Caroline died as a result of a single gunshot wound which entered her body through the right chin exiting the left side of the head. The trajectory going through the spine via the brain,” said Oduor.

He confirmed that the gunshot wound means it was a contact entry, meaning that the gun was on the skin thus rupturing the skin.

He indicated he was not at the scene but from Investigative Officers it was reported to him that she died on the same scene meaning there was no body movement from elsewhere.

“The work of a pathologist is to establish cause of death, manner of death we confirm through many parameters which will be shared after the conclusion of the ongoing investigations,” he added.

According to him, there are three manner of death which are confirmed from lab reports. They include; suicide, accident and natural, for Caroline’s case it will be informed correctly through the lab results which is ongoing. Apart from the gunshot injury, Dr. Oduor confirmed the body had no other injuries.

In her last dying wish, Caroline stipulated that he body be cremated and that she be dressed in a pristine white wedding dress that is super expensive.

“To my parents, I am requesting my body be cremated to end your suffering. Remember to take care of my children. For the thing in Kasarani hire movers for safe delivery, here nothing belongs to (Name withheld) for I started from scratch after leaving us,” she wrote.

And to her fans she wrote, “To my people, it’s my wedding day dress me in a white gown that (name withheld) didn’t afford.”

Police officer commits suicide

Another police officer has committed suicide at his home.

According to police reports, constable Donfan Wanyaga who is attached to the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport reportedly committed suicide at his home in Kagio, Kirinyaga county on Tuesday.

Confirming the incident, Mwea-West sub-county police commander Stephen Okal hang himself in his house.

The deceased officer’s family has confirmed that had left a suicide note asking his wife to give out his phone to his son.

Reports by neighbors indicate that the officer’s wife had called them claiming that her husband wanted to commit suicide, but they unfortunately arrived when he had already done it.

The body of the deceased was removed to the Kibugi Funeral home pending an autopsy.

This comes barely two weeks after fugitive policewoman Carolin Kangogo committed suicide to escape arrest over the murder of two people-both her boyfriends.

According to police, Kangogo had been in hiding until when she was reported to have gone to her parents’ house in Elgeyo Marakwet where she locked herself up in the toilet and blew her head off.

Early this month, another officer attached to Gigiri Police Station reportedly committed suicide while on duty. He was said to have shot himself.

The officer who was identified as Police Constable David Machwa Mbatia (No 233456) used an AK 47 Riffle to take his life while on guard duties at the Amisom offices located behind the United States of America Embassy, four kilometres from his station.

In April this year, a General Service Unit officer attached to the Interior Ministry headquarters’ VIP Protection shot his wife dead before committing suicide.

He was among the bodyguards assigned to Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiangi.

The officer identified by police as Hudson Wakise is said to have opened fire on his wife after a quarrel over domestic issues at the woman’s house, just outside the GSU camp in Ruaraka.

It is understood that they were living together in the camp until recently when she moved out and rented her own house following a fall-out over family issues.

In January this year, a police officer shot himself dead in Garissa just hours after a prison warder committed suicide in Mwea after killing a police officer in a bitter love triangle.

The two incidents followed another incident in Nairobi’s Kamukunji Police Station where a police officer shot a female colleague dead and injured another during an argument before he fled the station while wielding an AK47 rifle.

He was later hunted down and shot dead by colleagues, even though police claimed he shot himself dead as they tried to arrest him after shooting him on the leg.

The incidents raised serious concerns, prompting action from the National Police Service Commission (NPSC) which announced that it had established what its Chairman Eliud Kinuthia described as a “tailor-made psychosocial and relationship support of police officers which remain our first priority.”

Experts have identified psychological challenges as a major contributor of increased suicide cases among police officers.

Special Service detectives stormed a room that he had rented in Chokaa area within Kayole and arrested him at 2am.

Christine Ambani was a student at Kiriri Women’s University of Science and Technology. Her lifeless body was found sprawled on a bed at a guest room in Githurai.

The 23-year-old third year student who was pursuing a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration was found murdered on July 13, 2021, with her neck bearing deep stab wounds.

On the fateful day of her murder, Christine had left the Mwihoko based University in the morning, to meet her boyfriend in Githurai town, 15 kilometres away.

Kalio Makokha, the prime suspect in the brutal murder of Christine Ambani.

Immediately after the duo met in Githurai town, they booked themselves into a guest room in an arrangement that according to the management would only last for a few hours.

According to DCI, the arrangement was because the semester’s Continuous Assessment Tests were being administered at the university and Christine was due to sit for a paper that afternoon.

Makokha is said to have emerged from the room later and topped up the earlier paid amount, to last them for the entire night.

DCI through a detailed statement posted on social media said that it is during this night that the boyfriend turned killer, brutally murdered Christine by stabbing her on the neck savagely and left her bleeding to her last breath.

Makokha, a 23-year-old university student at Mt. Kenya University is said to have taken over Christine’s phone and logged into Christine’s family WhatsApp group.

Posing as Christine, he sent a message asking family members to send her Sh87,000 claiming that she wanted to refund her boyfriend (Makokha) the money he had spent to help her settle in the college.

Makokha was also discovered by detectives to have been a dangerous criminal, previously arrested by detectives and set free under unclear circumstances.

On February 2, 2021, Makokha currently pursuing a Bachelor of Science degree in Specialist Needs Education was identified as the culprit behind the murder of his brother, his brother’s wife and their one year-old baby.

Makokha in unclear circumstances killed the three by setting their house ablaze while they were inside. The matter was investigated by Mumias based detectives under reference number DCI/CR/NO925/36/2021 and the case file forwarded to the DPP for further action.

The DPP advised that a public inquest into the matter be conducted. Even before the inquest was conducted and his kin buried, Makokha attacked the grieving family by disrupting the burial planning meetings that were ongoing, and destroyed the family’s property.

He was arrested, charged and remanded at Kakamega G.K Prison. However, the case was withdrawn under unclear circumstances and the suspect set free.

The suspect will be arraigned in court to answer to murder charges.

Police officers on Friday July 16, 2021 opened fire at Ntuene primary school, injuring several pupils in an effort to arrest one of their teachers.

According to reports, the officers fired in the air about five times to scare away the pupils who were protesting the arrest of their teacher.

The pupils are said to have pelted stones at the police in protest of the arrest.

A source who spoke to one of the leading local dailies indicated that the police opened fire after they were overwhelmed by the pupils.

Ntuene Primary school headteacher Angello Kamenchu has condemned the incident, saying that the police acted unprofessional by opening fire in school in the presence of the children.

“They should have arrested her at home. The officers used excessive force. They tore her clothes in the arrest process,” the headteacher stated.

Reports further indicated the police stormed the school to arrest the teacher while pupils were in the assembly for their closing day parade. The teacher allegedly had a dispute with a local trader.

A 21-year-old man has been arrested for allegedly hacking into the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) database, acquired personal details of 61,617registered voters from a county in western Kenya and defrauded them of money running into millions of shillings.

According the the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), the suspect was in possession of data which contained names of registered voters, their ID numbers and dates of birth.

Using the fraudulently acquired personal details, the suspect then contact different wireless carriers and convince the customer service agents that they are the true owners of the line. Upon successful SIM swapping, the suspect is granted full access to the victim’s online accounts.

The 21-year-old believed to have previously worked for one of Kenya’s mobile phone networks, was arrested in Juja by DCI sleuths from Crime Research and Intelligence Bureau, supported by Safaricom’s fraud investigations team and Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology security officers, on Friday July 16, 2021.

The suspect is also believed to have been operating a high-tech mobile phone scam syndicate. Upon his arrest, a gunny bag full of SIM cards belonging to Safaricom, Airtel and Telcom mobile phone service providers was recovered.

His arrest followed a joint operation by DCI detectives and Safaricom investigators after the suspect swindled an MPESA agent, an unspecified amount of money.

The fraudster masquerading as an M-PESA customer care attendant, called the agent and lured her into dialing unspecified codes.

Before the agent realized that she was in a phony call, she had already lost cash from her money lending account. The money was sent to an MPESA account belonging to one of the fraudulently acquired SIM cards, before being transferred to an account at Cooperative bank.

The suspect who has only been identified as Kiprop and his accomplices who narrowly escaped the arrest, is believed to have swindled unsuspecting members of the public millions of shillings through this pretentious scheme.

A former police commissioner has been drawn into a bitter fight over the ownership and control of a prime land with an estimated value of nearly Ksh.13 billion.
Papers filed in the Environment and Land Court at Thika accuse Bernard Njinu Kiarie who was a powerful police chief from 1982 to 1988 under President Moi of fraudulently selling the 402-acre land in Ruiru, Kiambu County.
In the case filed by Mary Njoki Thuku who is laying a joint claim to the land at the centre of the dispute with Mr Njinu and four others through a company called New Pilion Estates Limited, the plaintiff accuses the former police boss of selling the parcel behind his co-directors’ back.
Mr. Njinu sold the land to the National Cooperative Housing Union Limited (NACHU) in what Mrs Thuku, through her lawyer Mr Kaingati Kamonjo, describes as ‘an epic fraud.’
In the matter that has been certified ‘urgent’, Ms Thuku further claims NACHU, which has been enjoined as a defendant in the suit, is illegally sub-dividing and selling below-market prices to unsuspecting clients the land it has since rebranded to Riverline Ridges.
She wants the court to order NACHU to stop advertising, marketing and selling the Riverline Ridges development on New Pillion land and to award the property in equal portions to its six shareholders.
‘The 4th Defendant (NACHU) is trying to evade the cause of justice by aggressively disposing off the property by selling a plot measuring 50 by 100 at Ksh1.195M which is a throw away price considering the current market value of that area is nothing short of Ksh4.M,’ the suit states.
Also listed as co-defendant in the suit is Tropical Farm Management Limited a Switzerland-based agricultural company that used to manage New Pillion’s coffee harvest. Potentially, the case could affect many buyers lured into investing within the fastest growing suburban in Kenya according to the latest national census figures.
Besides the controversy around the real ownership, contested sale and the sub-divisions of the land, Ms Thuku also claims Mr Njinu has been economical with the truth and has failed to disclose the extent of New Pillion debts to the land buyers.
Documents she has filed in court indicate New Pillion owes the Cooperative Bank and Tropical Farm Management Limited Ksh14M and 13M respectively in unsettled debts. If the land was used as security for an unpaid loan, Co-operative Bank is likely to lay claim to owning the land.
According to Ms Thuku, Mr Njinu secretly sold New Pillion’s land to NACHU for Kshs2.81billion, an act she claims amounts to “disinheriting all other shareholders” and says attempts to resolve the matter out of court have been unsuccessful.
It is unclear whether NACHU knew of New Pillion’s shareholder dispute and debt when it purchased the land in an agreement signed on 30 March 2021 by NACHU Chairman Francis Kamande Kamau and board members Louisa Wairimu Wanyoike and Mary Wairimu Mathenge.
The sale agreement, a copy of which was submitted as part of Mrs Thuku’s case filings, does not acknowledge New Pillion’s debts to Co-operative Bank and Tropical Farm Management Company Limited
NACHU’s agreement is subject to New Pillion providing documentation on land ownership. According to the agreement, NACHU’s full purchase of the land is not expected until 31 July 2021, which would imply it is selling Riverline Ridges development before it has assumed full ownership of the property.

An American woman linked to a fraudulent scheme known as Amazon Web Worker that milked millions of shillings from unsuspecting Kenyans has been arrested.

Detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) arrested the 50-year-old suspect, identified as Stacey Marie Parker Blake,at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) minutes after she had disembarked from her flight on Friday.

According to DCI, the arrest came after intensive investigations by serious crimes detectives that linked her to the ponzi scheme.

In a well coordinated and orchestrated scheme, investors were duped into investing their money in an online app known as Amazon Web Worker, on the premise that they would earn huge profits of upto 38% for a deposit lasting only 7 days.

Social media platforms were awash with advertisements wooing Kenyans to the mouthwatering scheme, that promised to double one’s deposits in a month.

In one such advertisement, investors who deposited Sh100,000 were promised Sh351,000 after 30 days! All one needed for his/her application to be successful was to register their personal details such as full names, M-Pesa account details & mobile phone numbers in the online app.

Unsuspecting Kenyans downloaded the app in their hundreds, registered and made their deposits. Some referred their spouses, children and close friends to the scheme, in a bid to make a fortune overnight.

It is not until when the app was deleted from the internet without prior notice, that the investors discovered they had been duped.

They were shocked to learn that the app was not in any way linked to Amazon, a multinational technology company based in the United States.

The app went down with deposits worth hundreds of millions of shillings from gullible investors, who had hoped to hit the jackpot, once their deposits earned profits.

A heavy down pour being witnessed across the country turned tragic in Nairobi’s Kibra slams on Thursday night after at least four people got killed by floods.

Reports indicate that the victims met their death after they were swept by floods while crossing Mutuine River in Kibra, Nairobi.

This followed heavy rains that were experienced in the city and it’s environs on Thursday evening.

According to witnesses, the four were swept away by the raging water as they tried to cross a bridge there.

Their bodies were however yet to be found on Friday morning.

A search and rescue mission was ongoing in the area with hopes of finding them.

Police and rescuers said they fear more deaths would be reported because of the floods that affected various informal settlements in the city.

Nairobi police boss Augustine Nthumbi said teams had been mobilized to help in the search and rescue missions.

He added they are conducting a survey to check the extent of the issue. Property of unknown value was destroyed in the floods that ensued.

Residents of some estates reported flooding in their areas which affected their operations.

Some residents were forced to endure long hours on the road while others were forced to spend the night on the road following heavy rains that continue to pound the capital.

The heavy downpour resulted in heavy traffic gridlock, flooded roads as well as cutting off of sections of roads making the movement of traffic a nightmare.

Motorists and commuters alike have had to suffer the consequences of the heavy rains with others forced to spend the night on the road.

The situation has been worsened by ongoing infrastructural developments going on across the city with the construction of the Nairobi Expressway playing a major role in the mess.

Motorists have been forced to wade through flash floods occasioned by heavy rains, with Kenya Meteorological Department warning the rains will continue throughout the week.

The kitchen continues to get water with calls for transparency, honesty and accountability keep steaming the Kenya National Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KNCCI) Nairobi County’s chapter.

Moments after a local publisher exposed the story of how the chamber’s chairman Geoffrey Kimani was cornered in illegalities in the office by firing all the appointed directors, sent all employees home for compulsory and brought in his set of loyalists, a step was made.

We’ve since realized that KNCCI engaged a damage control of the situation after we revealed that MasterCard had written a protest letter to the body demanding for a refund of their money earlier given and was misused, KNCCI instead on their website, uploaded a planted story claiming to have received again money from MasterCard.

The same story then also ran with it to the media and was posted by Business Daily, one wonders of the journalist did even bother to counter check if the event took place as claimed. Our sources at KNCCI say such an event didn’t take place, this was a damage control. MasterCard is still waiting for their money.

Still staying closely with questionable products, it was reported that Equity Bank had gotten into a partnership with KNCCI and set aside Sh200 billion for the chambers to access as part of the COVID-19 financial support for businesses. However, it turns out this was just a bluff and didn’t move beyond the cameras. It didn’t take off as Equity Bank being a partner with MasterCard had gotten wind of the misuse of funds by the chambers and took a long step back. There’s nothing to show that this loan hit the accounts, it didn’t, our courses confirm.

It has also emerged that the KNCCI financial books haven’t been audited since 2019 dealing a blow to the trust with potential investors and organizations giving grants to small businesses.

In Nairobi chapter, Kimani is said to have shut down the windows for roving eyes blocking all efforts of auditing. In MasterCard case, it’s said while the beneficiaries were to strictly be members of the chamber and from Nairobi county, preliminary results showed some beneficiaries were outside the county. Only a forensic audit would reveal the extent of the alleged crime.

Kenya Insights has learnt that five directors from the Nairobi chamber whom were unceremoniously fired by Kimani, have taken him to court for illegal dismissal. Ngatia has also been taken to court for illegally appointing Kimani whom he handpicked from his social circle and made him the chairman. Ngatia previously held the same seat before ascending to national position. We’ve also been made aware that there have been attempts to throw out the complaint in vain.

Fed up with the rogue structures in the chamber, Jimnah Mbaru who held the position as chairman, resigned. Ngatia then moved quickly and installed Kimani as the chairman with complete disregard of the law.

Elected Board of Directors have had a difficult time working with Mr. Kimani who by the time of being appointed by the Chamber President to Chair, KNCCI Nairobi County, was not a fully paid up KNCCI Member for 2 Good years, 2019 and 2020.

As per the Chamber Constitution, you cannot hold office if you have not paid subscription for two years.

The KNCCI Constitution states that Co-option of Directors can only be done by the Board at County Level. 7 New Directors were Co-opted without the proper procedure being followed or vetting as per Constitution of KNCCI. Infact Three of the newly coopted Directors are not even fully paid up Members of the NAIROBI KNCCI.

The Elected KNCCI NAIROBI 5 County Directors, tried to bring up the agenda in the Board Meetings severally however , the matter was shot down by the Acting Chairman Mr. Kimani supported by other Directors.

They further engaged the National Director in charge of NAIROBI County KNCCI to Intervene, and this was again shot down again.

Since, they were asking the 7 Co-opted Directors to be appointed from the current exciting Fully paid up list of Nairobi KNCCI members ,this was totally shot down by Mr. Kimani and the Same office.

The KNCCI Constitution is clear that Co-opted Directors should be appointed based on Professionalism, Gender and people with Disabilities. Priority should be given to current Nairobi County KNCCI Members.

This didn’t go well with the acting Chairman, Mr. Kimani as he had already proposed names to Chamber President, infact 3 who are not members of Nairobi KNCCI.

Since the Chamber Constitution, allows for a Complain, as this matter could not be handled in Nairobi County, where Mr. Kimani was an interested party, they raised the Complain officially with the National Dispute Resolution Committee KNCCI according to documents seen by Kenya Insights. They followed the laid down procedures in seeking an amicable solution to the problem within KNCCI Nairobi as per the Memorandum of Association.

After meeting the National Director in charge of NAIROBI KNCCI, they were asked by the Director, Nairobi County, Mr. Theuri to drop the Complain without any solution. They realized this was not going to help Nairobi KNCCI Members.

A Board Meeting of the newly Co-opted 7 Directors was called by the Acting Chairman Mr. Kimani and the agenda was to discuss the 5 elected Directors and vote them out. They refused to go for that Board Meeting as the 7 Directors were co-opted illegally, have no voting rights. They asked their Lawyer to write to Mr Kimani as the Acting Chairman to the effect that Nairobi KNCCI Board meeting was null and void as the new Directors had no powers to make decisions on behalf of KNCCI Nairobi Members.

It has been established that Mr. Kimani as the Acting Chairman, is using Director, Jesse Muraya who is the Administrator of the Whatsapp KNCCI Nairobi County Group, and and other Co-opted Directors doctoring Board Meeting Minutes taken ealier to prove that the 7 Co-opted Directors were legally Co-opted and the 5 Directors consented. They also hatched a plan to change bank signatories but this was thwarted as bank demanded they bring the ousted directors to authenticate transfer of leadership. It’s not a brainer why he selfishly wanted the signatories changed to his loyalists.

Suspiciously, Ngatia by virtue of his office had written to the bank in a desperate effort to allow Kimani’s select directors to be authenticated as signatories. However the bank aware of the consequences, refused. Now Kimani is left with two options of either reconciling with the directors he fired for them to sign bank checks or he will be watching the money in the accounts without being able to do anything with it.

Kenya Insights has learnt that Nairobi County Chamber has been awarded 7million by Center for International Private Enterprise (CIPE) as a grant. “This is what they want eat, the money is coming into the account anytime this week.” An insider said to Kenya Insights. “He (Kimani) wants to swindle the money that’s why he didn’t want the vocal directors, he sent the whole staff on compulsory leave, he wants to eat everything by himself and his gang members, that’s why he plotted the coup.” Source said.
