Emerging details have revealed what led to the sudden death of top gospel artist Papa Dennis.

According to a detailed report by a local daily written from a series of interviews, depression occasioned by a sudden change in financial fortunes and forlorn hopelessness is what led to the death of the award-winning gospel musician.

Just over a year ago, everything looked so rosy for Papa Dennis, even going ahead to reveal to Pulse Magazine that he had at least Ksh50 million stashed in three bank accounts in the country.

Fast-forward to one year later, the musician was a pale shadow of his flashy and flamboyant former self — his financial muscle had waned, and the good life was now a mirage.

He relocated from his solid rented house in Lavington, and started life afresh in a room in the Pangani studio — Nairobi Records — where he allegedly jumped from on Friday, February 7.

By the time of his death, Papa Dennis did not know where his next meal would come from, according the informants of the local daily.

“He only had a mattress in one of the rooms in the studio; that was the only thing he went back to after spending the day searching where his meal would come from. Occasionally, he would be assisted by the owner of Nairobi Records, Mash Mjukuu. Upon learning that Papa Dennis had nowhere to go after being evicted from his furnished Lavington home over unpaid rent, Mjukuu offered to house him in the studio, and gave him a mattress,” a source was quoted by the daily.

The sources further revealed Papa Dennis’ former manager, Sadat Muhindi, was the one financing his luxurious lifestyle, but allegedly stopped after the two fell out over reasons yet to be known.

A report filed at Pangani Police Station by Papa Dennis’ brother, Simon Mwangi, at 1:30am Saturday, says he fell from Kirima Building near Jubilee Party headquarters, with authorities confirming Dennis’ cause of death as suicide.

The incident — according to police — happened at 11:30pm Friday.

Police have launched probe into the death of award-winning gospel singer papa Dennis.

The 2018 AFRIMMA Awards winner was on Saturday morning found dead along the road in Ngara.

It is being alleged that he fell from a 7th floor building in Ngara, Nairobi.

His body was found on the roadside near Pangani on the night of Friday.

Veteran gospel artiste, Daddy Owen, who was at the scene copnfirmed to a local daily the passing away of Papa Dennis.

“He was found dead on the roadside near the Jubilee Party headquarters,” Daddy Owen was quoted by the local daily.

However, details of whether Papa Dennis was knocked down by a vehicle, or whether he committed suicide by jumping from a tall building remains scanty, as we wait for the conclusion of police probe.

Papa Dennis, whose real name is Dennis Mwangi, was born and raised in Matunda, Kakamega County. He has a twin brother whose name is Simon Mwangi.

His mother died in 2006, leaving him and his four other siblings unable to fend for themselves.

After his mother’s demise, Papa Dennis relocated to Kisumu where he started a second-hand clothes business.

He was known for exhibiting flamboyance, on several occasions sporting expensive designer clothes, watches and shoes.

The Late artiste, in his lifetime, won several awards, including a trophy in the 2015 Mwafaka Awards, 2016 and 2017 Pulse Music Video Awards, the 2018 African Muzik Magazine Awards (AFRIMMA) and the 2019 Dear Awards.

Papa Dennis had several songs in his repertoire, including Tornado which he featured Tanzanian legendary singer Ray C. Other songs are: Nashukuru, Mayaya, Foundation (featuring Daddy Owen), Wabebe, among others.

Kenyan star Otile Brown is no doubt a talented and versatile musician. Otile has a way of connecting with his fans, especially the ladies.

The singer has started off his 2020 in style by giving his female fans a gift that I believe they will love and remember for a long time. The ‘Nabayet’ singer has sang his heart out in an attempt to make ladies love themselves for who they are.

His new song, ‘The Way You Are’ is what each and every lady needs out there as it praises diversity.
‘Bad Man Shivo’, as he is known by a number of his fans calls on ladies to love and believe in themselves for who they are.

For sometime now, attention has always been given to the heavily endowed women while the slim ones have time and again been ridiculed.

Otile on the other hand believes that even the slim ladies are great and have something great to offer.

The singer points out that while some people love voluminous women, he loves them small and tender. He also states that while some people go for the light skins, he prefers the chocolate type.

“Kuna wanopenda biggy, mi napenda ndogo. Wenye wanapenda lightskin, mimi napenda choco,” he says.

The ‘Alivyonipenda’ hitmaker goes ahead to caution ladies against going artificial in a bid to enhance their looks and appearance. He calls on ladies not to bleach or use body enhancer creams. Could he be targeting his ex Vera Sidika? Well, be the judge.

“Usijibleach mikorogo,” he states.

This song will definitely be a self esteem booster to the slim and dark ladies as Otile praises all the aspects in them. The singer cheekily states that love making sessions with the slim ladies are always great as one can always juggle between the bed, couch and even the walls.

Just like Tarrus Riley’s ‘Just the Way You Are’, Otile brown believes that God’s work on each and every woman was perfect and as such, no woman should be humiliated or feel bad because of their looks

I give this jam a 9/10 rating as the visuals are also well executed.

The singer captured different types of ladies from the brown skins to the dark skins, big to small. He even used a lady with Vitiligo as well as an albino to make this track relatable to all the ladies in the world.

Africa’s Best Rap Act Khaligraph Jones has struck again and this time, like lightning. The OG, as he is well known by his fans has fired heavy shots towards Nigerian rappers led by Blaq Bonez.

It began when Blaq Bonez decided to take the OG head on, following the Soundcity MVP awards in Lagos where the ‘Me Siogopi’ rapper was crowned the Hip Hop act of the year.

Following Khaligraph’s win, Blaq Bones took to Instagram and claimed that the Soundcity MVP organizers got it all wrong by awarding him the best Hip Hop act award. He even promised to drop a diss track the following day. Well, we are still waiting for it but clearly, the OG is not a patient man.

Khaligraph took to the studio to fire some warning shots at Black Bonez and co. According to Khali, he has already been crowned King and as such, the likes of Bonez should wait for the next season. It is also worth noting that Khali was crowned the best at Black Bonez’ very own backyard – Nigeria.

The OG has spit punch line after punch line and we doubt if Black Bonez with survive – or rather if he will have the audacity and energy to respond to the OG.

Nigeria has to send a Lesbian to slay a beast?” asked Khaligraph who sees Black Bonez as no competition and as such, Nigeria could have done better.

As for winning in Nigeria, Khali has urged Black Bonez to pay his ‘lazy fans’ to vote for him next time. Khali even claims that Black Bonez is not popular in his own hood, urging Black Bonez to retire and settle down and take the diss track positively as it is meant to help boost his ego.

The OG has also taken time to pay homage to the likes of M.I Abaga, Vector, Ice Prince and rapper YCee who he claims has carried the Nigerian rap industry on his back. The other ‘rappers’ to him sound whack and have resorted to doing Afrobeats.

To ram the last nail on Black Bonez’ coffin, the OG claims that he is a done chapter who is just a random comedian.

The OG has also given out a number of conditions for the beef to be settled:

  1. The ‘Leave me Alone’ rapper wants to be a Nigerian Citizen but without a visa.
  2. He wants a mansion on the island and about 10 divas
  3. A bentley and a posh since he is coming for the crown

He finished by stressing that he never wants to see Blaq Bonez again “wearing his cheap suits”. He has however given him the opportunity to speak the truth, if he feels the need to.

Tanasha Donna has dropped the first single off her debut EP, ‘Donatella’. The song which features Tanzania’s Mbosso is a Love ballad with a blend of Swahili, French and English.

Mama Naseeb comes in pretty well on this one with her melodious vocals all but spicing up this great love song. She talks about a man who apparently drives her crazy given the type of good loving he gives her. Could this be Diamond Platinumz? Well, Tanasha has never shied away from letting her feelings known out there and as such, we will not be surprised if this song was inspired by her relationship with Simba.

Mbosso too did not disappoint with the Love master delivering on this one. His lyrical game is clearly notable with his symphonious vocals making the song sound even better.

‘La Vie’ is a French word meaning ‘For Life’ and in the song, Tanasha clearly professes her eternal Love to the love of her life.

This is Tanasha’s third single since she ventured into the music industry and it follows her previous releases, Nah Easy and Radio Love featuring Barack Jacuzzi.

Her upcoming EP Donatella will have five songs with collabos expected from the likes of Khaligraph Jones. There are also hints that another collabo featuring a Tanzanian act and a Kenyan group will also be on the album.

‘La Vie’ is already available on Boomplay and fans can stream and enjoy it below.

2020 looks like a big year for Tanasha Donna who recently became a mum.

Her Donatella EP will be exclusive to Boomplay with its official launch set for 31st January. There are also rumours that Diamond Platinumz will grace the launch.

Gospel artiste Rufftone has been accused of duping an upcoming artiste and leaving him without pay.

This is after he organised a concert at Bukhungu stadium in Kakamega county, called the artiste to perform after reaching some agreements only for him to be shortchanged later.

Narrating the ordeal via his facebook account, the young gospel artiste identified as Mc Angel Kenya expressed displeasure in the occurrence of events and called upon Kenyans to help him get justice.

“My name is Mc Angel. A Kenyan based gospel artist famous for Natamani song. 2019 was tough year for everybody and I was grateful when Rufftone of Mungu baba song called me to perform in his event in Kakamega.

“Ladies and gentlemen, I grew up in a children’s home and the streets. I know nobody besides God who has watched over me and reached me to this point through music.

“I know no influential humans besides the same God who directs my path. I went to Kakamega and worked for five days. Did activations and sang my lungs out,” reads part of his post.

“However, upon winding up, Mr Rufftone refused to pay up upon requesting for my dues.

“Instead, he came up with stories that the ladies under my watch had misappropriated airtime that was meant for activation. This man even refused to buy me food for the days I was there but as a man I moved on,” added the artiste.

Additionally, the upcoming artiste claimed that Rufftone, being a big name in the industry threatened him saying that there was nothing he could do as he was the President’s ally.

Rufftone and his brother Owen Mwati, famously known as Daddy Owen have been in the music industry for decades, with majority of upcoming artistes looking up to them.

Rufftone was however not available for a comment on the same by the time this story was published.
