Nairobi County Assembly Speaker Beatrice Elachi has resigned as Nairobi County Assembly speaker.

Her Deputy and Ruai MCA John Kamangu has taken over in an acting capacity.

While tendering her resignation this morning, Elachi said that she was moving on to a new season in her political career and journey.

She also noted that she was going back to her Dagoretti North constituents. Is this her next target? Will she battle out Simba Arati in 2022 general elections?

Well, whilst she maintains that she is going back to her constituents, Elachi is most likely to be appointed for another post in President Uhuru Kenyatta’s administration.

Ever since President Kenyatta formed the Nairobi Metropolitan Service (NMS) and Director General Mohamed Badi, Elachi has been supportive, even as governor Mike Sonko and his allied MCAs tried to fight Badi.

While resigning, Elachi thanked President Kenyatta for giving her the opportunity to serve Nairobi for the last three years and said she hoped to serve in his administration in any other capacity in the near future.

Well, does this indicate that she is aware of an appointment awaiting her in the near future?

Well, she asked the assembly to stand firm and support Nairobi Metropolitan Services Director-General Mohammed Badi in transforming the capital.

“That is the critical agenda..the legacy for our President and I believe he would be proud to see us support him. If I ever did wrong, within the duties I was given, I ask for forgiveness,” she said.

Gor Mahia is currently restructuring ahead of the new season whose kick off date remains unclear.

Reports indicate that the team will part ways with a total of 11 current players and sign similar number for next season where they will be seeking an unprecedented fifth league title in a row.

Among those who have exited is Tanzanian keeper David Mapigano who has returned home joining Azam, winger Boniface Omondi and keeper Peter Odhiambo have also exited the club.

Others rumored to be on their way out are; Charles Momanyi who is a KCB target, Joash Onyango who may be heading to Simba, Kenneth Muguna has offers from Angola and Tanzania.

All these are leaving because of one reason, lack of payment. The club is struggling financially and players are literally running from club. After six months without pay, life has become literally unbearable and COVID-19 has not made matters any easier for the players.

“I cannot tolerate it anymore, it’s time for me to move and get some greener pastures, yes I love the team but seeing my team suffer yet I player for the most successful team in Kenya is a shame. I have played my part in the team for the last four years and I am now going somewhere where I can be able to pay bills,” one of the departing players said.

The team is also finding it difficult to sign players with a number of them shunning the team. The promises of CAF Champions League football is no longer appealing to the players. A number of them like Fidel Origa, Kelly Wesonga have blatantly refused to join the side despite getting some well packaged empty promise.

Wazito FC is the contrast of what’s happening at Gor. The team is paying their players well, they have medical cover, good allowances. It is the best paying team in the league by far. With the window opening, players from rival clubs literally want to join the Ricardo Badoer owned side because it’s the team that appeals most to the players, their welfare will be taken care of well .

The team is in the process of acquiring young ambitious players who want to play for the club. it promises to be an exciting season for the ambitious side and we can’t wait to see COVID-19 disappear so that we can go back to playing football and watch Wazito thrive.

Just days after meeting at COTU boss Francis Atwoli’s home, Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party leader Raila Odinga, Jubilee Vice Chairman David Murathe and Siaya senator James Orengo met again over the weekend.

This time round they met at the home of Agriculture Cabinet Secretary Peter Munya.

The leaders had attended the initiation ceremony of Munya’s son Karauni Munya.

Among the political issues discussed in the ceremony was the revenue sharing formula and the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI).

Raila was on Saturday, August 8, endorsed by Murathe for Presidency, a move which was later backed by Central organization of Trade Unions (COTU) Secretary General Francis Atwoli.

In an exclusive interview with KTN News, Murathe asked Kenyans to prepare for Raila’s presidency in 2022, comparing his situation to former South African President Nelson Mandela.

“We think it’s time Kenyans rewarded the years of struggle of Raila Amollo Odinga. They owe it to him. It’s like Mandela, and 2022 will be a Mandela Moment.

“And we would also like to tell him (Raila) to be a transitional president who will then nurture the young generation to take over in 2027,” stated Murathe.

Jubilee party Vice Chairman David Murathe has asked Wiper Movement leader Kalonzo Musyoka not to run for Presidency come 2022.

Instead, Murathe wants Kalonzo, whose party is a member of the NASA coalition, to step aside and let Kenyans make ODM party leader Raila Odinga a one term President.

In an exclusive interview with KTN last evening, Murathe said it is time to reward Raila for all his struggles and sacrifices for the country’s democratic growth and progress.

Raila would then be a one-term transitional president who will clear the way for generation change in Kenya’s political order. Murathe is listed among the eight men shaping President Uhuru Kenyatta succession politics.

According to him, it should by now be a forgone conclusion that Raila will be on the ballot.

“Untill Kalonzo moves from the Nasa coalition, what we are doing is co-operating. Just like we are co-operating with ODM. I don’t know what the arrangement is on the Nasa side but if you ask me I would like him (Kalonzo) to also let Raila run,” he said.

In an interview with Daily Nation last month, Kalonzo said he has a secret pact with Raila on how they will work together in 2022.

He said the pact is separate from the 2017 National Super Alliance (Nasa) coalition agreement that included Amani National Congress leader Musalia Mudavadi, Ford-Kenya’s Moses Wetang’ula and Chama Cha Mashinani’s Isaac Ruto.

According to Kalonzo, even though Nasa is dead, he has signed an agreement with Raila on how they will approach the 2022 elections.

He however, refused to disclose details of the deal, but said it was entered into without the knowledge of the other Nasa principals.

ODM Secretary General Edwin Sifuna later dismissed the claims, saying that ODM had no any political deal with Kalonzo ahead of 2022.

Kalonzo however, maintained that his deal with Raila was intact, arguing that he was sober while making his claims in the interview with Daily Nation.

President Uhuru Kenyatta has today issued an Executive Order establishing a framework for the management, coordination and integration of public port, railway and pipeline services under the Kenya Transport and Logistics Network (KTLN).

The network brings together Kenya Ports Authority (KPA), Kenya Railways Corporation (KRC) and Kenya Pipeline Company Limited (KPC) under the coordination of the Industrial and Commercial Development Corporation (ICDC).

KTLN will leverage on the efficiencies and synergies of the four State agencies so as to achieve Kenya’s strategic agenda of becoming a regional logistics hub.

Further, the new structure is expected to lead to the lowering of the cost of doing business in the country through the provision of port, rail and pipeline infrastructure in a cost effective and efficient manner, and within acceptable shared benchmark standards.

The new framework also allows for the centralization and coordination of operations without amending the existing laws or causing undue disruption to the legal structuring of the State entities. This helps to secure comfort with the concept, and utilize the experience to guide the development of a more permanent legally structured organization.

Consequently, the four State agencies have been transferred to the National Treasury in line with the recommendations of the Presidential Taskforce on Parastatal Reforms.

In the new arrangement, the ICDC will act as a holding company to the three agencies, and be responsible for the management of the State’s investments in Ports, Rail and Pipeline services.

Going forward, the State agencies are required to enter into a joint operations agreement within 30 days that will reorganize individual entity structures, resources, operations and services. The reorganization will help to establish a seamless and coordinated national transport and logistics network.

In order to secure his vision for the Sector, His Excellency the President has reorganized the Boards of Directors of the four State entities.

The ICDC Board will be responsible for securing the achievement of the commercial vision and objectives of KTLN, through the Board of Directors of each entity so as to operate as a single coherent unit. For this reason, the Board of ICDC is exempted from the requirements of Mwongozo on multiple directorships.

Further, the National Treasury has been tasked to strengthen its internal capacity by securing the necessary technical skills and competencies needed to effectively oversee investment portfolio management, and the setting up, monitoring and reporting of the financial performance of commercial State corporations.

In view of the above reforms, the proposed merger of the ICDC into the Kenya Development Bank has been postponed. However, ongoing transactions involving KPC, KRC and KPA will proceed uninterrupted.

Former Kiambu County governor Ferdinand Waititu is yet again on the spotlight for allegedly grabbing one of the streets in Nairobi CBD.

Waititu is alleged to have grabbed an area along Titar Lane that joins Tubman road and Biashara street.

Controversial blogger Robert Alai on Thursday August 6, 2020 shared the photos of the allegedly grabbed area, calling on the Nairobi Metropolitan Service (NMS) to intervene.

Alai further revealed how Waititu has constructed a concrete staircase and put up a gate to block the public from using the lane.

Alai also alleged that Waititu has grabbed the area to serve his newly opened Salehe hotel.

“Former governor Waititu has apparently grabbed this area. This is Titar Lane that joins Tubman rd and Biashara st. He has constructed a concrete staircase and put up a gate to serve his newly opened Salehe hotel. Therefore blocking it to public use,” Alai posted.

This is not however, the first time Waititu is finding himself in such scandals.

In 2019, the former County boss was accused of using his office position to take land away from a widow.

Investigations revealed that a prime property belonging to Ms Cecilia Mbugua was fraudulently transferred to Ms Esther Nyatu through the office of the governor and the Waititu himself.

Commission on Administrative Justice (CAJ) Chairperson Florence Kajuju handed over title deeds back to Ms Mbugua following an admission by Waititu of his role in taking away the land worth Sh100 million.

The commission’s investigations revealed that two properties – Thika Municipality/BlockXI/877 and Thika Municipality/BlockXI/878 – belonging to Ms Mbugua, were transferred to Ms Nyatu, in a process facilitated by Waititu.

The investigation followed a complaint filed with the commission on March 5, 2019.

Kiambu County land officials revealed that Mr Waititu facilitated the transfer and provided all the required documents.
