A security officer attached to one of the Cabinet Secretaries, and two Kenya Defence Forces were on Sunday night arrested when police raided a bar during dusk to dawn curfew.

They are among other 12 people that were arrested on Sunday night at a bar located along Kangundo road;

A Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) detective was also arrested along the other three officers.

The officers were taken to Buru Buru Police Station and were also accused of being drunk and disorderly.

The two Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) soldiers are both rank of Warrant officers.

The Ministry of Health in its daily press briefings has reiterated the need for Kenyans to adhere to the government directives on the Covid-19.

Appearing at the press conference on Sunday, April 5, Transport Cabinet Secretary James Macharia put matatu and boda boda operators on notice, warning  that they would face severe consequences if they failed to observe measures on safety and hygiene.

Macharia stated that matatu operators found contravening the directives will be arrested, charged and have their SACCO licences revoked, in addition to having their vehicles impounded.

Boda boda riders, required to wear masks and carry only one passenger in addition to observing sanitation measures, were threatened with similar actions.

“We have observed that the set directives are not being strictly followed, for example, most matatus are still overloading, hence not observing social distancing. They are also not observing standards of hygiene as per the set guidelines,”

“This directive applies to all public transport vehicles and the offenders will be charged in a court of law in line with the Public Health Act, for deliberately spreading the virus,” he stated.

As of Sunday, April 5, Kenya had a total of 142 confirmed cases of Covid-19, with four recoveries and four deaths.

The cases are so far spread across seven counties, with the government urging Kenyans to strictly adhere to measures meant to ensure physical distancing to curb its spread.

Transport Cabinet Secretary James Macharia has send a chilling message to Public Service Vehicle (PSV) operators who will not adhere to the measures that have been set by the government to stop the spread of coronavirus.

On Sunday evening, Health Ministry’s Chief Administrative Secretary Dr Mercy Mwangangi confirmed 16 more coronavirus cases in Kenya, bringing total number of cases to 142.

Out the cases new cases, 15 are Kenyan citizens and a Nigerian national.

“out of this number 11 have a history of travel while 5 are locally transmitted, ” Dr Mwangangi said.

However, CS Macharia who spoke at a press conference held at Afya House says some matatu operators have been defying government’s directive of carrying less passengers.

He said that defiant matatu operators have been carrying passengers in excess, thus defying the social distance rule.

As from Monday April 6, matatus found defying this rules will have to face the music.

According to CS Macharia, those found violating the regulations will have their operating licences revoked.

The tough talking CS also noted that the people in charge of the respective vehicles will be locked up by the police, and have their vehicles impounded.

Matatu operators are also supposed to have their own sanitizers, and ensure that passengers boarding their vehicles have face masks.

At the moment, all traveling up-country remains banned, with those planning to evacuate their relatives from other countries being required to write to the transport ministry 72 hours prior to planned traveling day.

“We have extended the ban on international flights for 30 more days with effect from April 6. Evacuation and cargo flights are exempted from this ban. However, evacuation flights must give advance 72-hour notice,” CS Macharia said.

Gatundu South MP Moses Kuria has once again exposed the rot in President Uhuru Kenyatta-led Jubilee party, this time round hitting hard at the party’s headquarters.

The controversial lawmaker has vowed to fight for members of Jubilee Party who are being intimidated and blackmailed.

Kuria through his social media account claimed that some Members of the County Assembly (MCAs) from Jubilee are being intimidated and blackmailed by the party.

Though Kuria did not give details on the nature of the blackmail, he said the members of the Party are ready to take the Party back.

The MP urged the Jubilee MCAs not to live in fear saying they will no longer be intimidated as long as he is still alive.

“To all Jubilee MCAs countrywide. The Party HQs will no longer intimidate or blackmail you. Not as long as I live. Enough is Enough. No longer Owner-Occupier mentality in Jubilee. The tenants want their party back. Kwani iko nini?,” said Kuria.

Kuria had earlier on Saturday took a swipe at Jubilee party Secretary General Raphael Tuju and other party officials for carrying out party affairs yet they are not elected officials.

The MP said Tuju or any other member of the party who is not elected does not have any business appointing or dismissing Majority Leaders.

Kuria claimed that Tuju and his team are in office illegally saying, “the Jubilee Party had not sought from the Registrar of Political Parties an extension of the term of the interim officials.”

“For far too long, the Jubilee Secretariat has been carrying out party affairs with reckless abandon. One would be forgiven for thinking the unelected officials at the Secretariat do own the party. They exhibit an owner-occupier mentality towards Jubilee Party.”

“Even if they are the owners of the Jubilee House and we, the elected leaders are the tenants, even the tenants would have a right to purchase part of the home through a Tenant Purchase Scheme. Enough is Enough. The tenants want their party back!,” he added.

La creme de la crème of university education in the world have picked four Kenyan girls to join the ranks of the best and brightest from all over the world on their campuses this summer.

These celebrated girls are Sandra Mwangi, Victoria Kipngetich, Amy Miguna and Awour Onguru.

The highly coveted university admission letters from schools such as Harvard, Princeton, Stanford, Yale, Columbia, Cornell, University of Pennsylvania, Caltech, and Williams are part of the pile of acceptance letters these girls have received.

Admissions into these universities are very competitive with an admit rate of 4.5% to 11%. They also admit students who possess strong personal qualities and character that will educate and inspire others.

These brilliant young ladies have carved their names in the annals of exemplary young Kenyan women who have scaled the challenging admission process and proven they belong in the Ivy League of Universities.

Sandra from a public school, an alum of Alliance Girls High School, Victoria, a final year student at Brookhouse International Schools; Amy, final year at St Andrews, Turi; and Awour, a senior at ISK.

Regardless of their different schools and curriculum, these girls have one thing in common: they had scores in the SAT (university admission exams) among the top 1% out of 2.2 million test takers globally in 2019.

Sandra scored an A in the 2019 KCSE exams. She is now admitted into 5 Ivy League schools including Harvard University (the oldest university in the USA) with an admission rate of 4.92%, Princeton University (the number 1 ranked university in the USA for the past decade), Yale University, Cornell University, and Columbia university, as well as, California institute of Technology (CALTECH).

Her dream is to become a civil engineer who will pave the way for a new method of maximizing the use of space in Africa and building sustainable cities on the continent. In addition, she received scholarship from all the schools

Victoria is an aspiring economist and enterprising young woman. Her future aspiration is already heralded by her exceptional performance in her IGSCE exams- 9 A stars and 3 As in her GCE AS level exams.

Victoria was admitted into the prestigious Yale University. She was among 2,304 admitted students out of 35,220 applicants worldwide. She also got into UPenn, Columbia and Cornell; all Ivy League schools. She also got admitted to other top colleges like Williams and Pomona

An energetic and bright young lady, Awour has a heart for music and the arts. Her strong academic abilities pales compared to her love of social and community work. Her inspiring community work at the Kibera Slums (teaching an orchestra in the middle of the shacks) is awesome. She is heading to Yale University this summer with an envious financial aid package.

Amy also joins Awour in Yale university, but with a passion and focus for medicine and everything health.  Such aspiration at this tender age is highly admirable. With a 1500 score out of 1600 in the SAT, Yale was captivated by her charisma and academic strength and her sense of duty to her community. Kudos to the #4 IVYLEAGUEGIRLS

All girls, regardless of such stunning qualities, admit that the process of applying to these schools could be cumbersome and tedious.

They mentioned that an educational consultancy, AFEX Test Prep Ltd, assisted them, including 65 other students in Kenya and Ghana, in preparing for the SAT and applying to schools in the US and Canada on Scholarship.

With more than 10 years of experience in assisting students to attain high scores in SAT exams and supporting applicants in applying to these top schools, AFEX has  assisted over 500 students placed in different schools and assisted students in receiving scholarships of over $25 million in the 2019-2020 admission year.

Article Written by Macharia Ngatia, CEO Agency 254, Tech Firm

Has COVID-19 Hit you?

As a tech firm, yes, we are struggling just like any other business, however we were not hardly hit as we had all the necessary technology in place, it was just a matter of stretching our working habit. That’s where we struggled most achieving but now, we could say we are relatively okay.

I feel like grand ideas of the “gig economy” and work/life balance are about to be tested like never before. Will people be able to work as flexibly as surveys suggest? A Research survey for our team revealed that 65% of Agency 254 workers claimed they would be more productive if they were able to work remotely or from home. Will they say the same when this crisis is over?

There is an opportunity to use technology to change our habits and how society operates, and we should take it. The present reality is that we have too much of garbage in, garbage out economy. At both individual and societal level, our use of technology is less intelligent than it should be, while at the same time our expectations of what we think technology can do outstrip its capabilities.

How do you think technology can help businesses survive at these times?

It’s wise for all businesses to come up with functionalities on their websites like portals or ERP systems where employees can be managed without the necessity of personal touch.

Businesses can also register G-suits. Other than efficiency in business communications, G-suit comes up with google sheets, google docs, google forms, google hangouts whereby you can have team conferencing and collaboration. Some other companies are using skype and zoom for conferencing. Use Telegram to share large files.

What advice do you have to businesses today?

Covid-19 has come up as a wakeup call for businesses to realize the beauty of artificial intelligence. Some meetings can be emails. People should invest in permanent real-time technology. Working from home should not be because we have pandemics, it should be because it’s good and efficient to do the thing.

Today, customers are more concerned with efficiency than anything else in their business operations. Customer-based functionalities like interactive website with all the necessary information, live chat whereby customers can ask questions directly on your website and get instant answers will help businesses, especially at this time.

Even as many industries contract, there’s still a pressing need for technology that can do everything from keep cloud infrastructure running to designing e-commerce portals.

Millions of employees working from home will mean that systems engineers, business analysts, and product managers must recalibrate companies’ operations to deal with new, widely dispersed teams and networks. Technology is more vital than ever as the world (and the global economy) wrestles with this crisis

There is an uproar among Members of County Assembly in Kirinyaga after the assembly’s Majority leader James Kamau Murango received a letter from Jubilee Party Secretary General Raphael Tuju, ousting him from his post.

It is said that Mr Murango received the ouster letter after he presented complaints about governor Anne Waiguru to Jubilee Headquarters in Pangani, Nairobi.

Kirinyaga MCAs who had on Thursday tabled Waiguru’s outer motion are now up in arms, expressing their disappointment in Jubilee.

In his dismissal letter, Tuju also notes that after complaints, the party found that apart from two issues of disbursement of funds for bursaries and women projects the rest of the issues raised by the MCA were personal.

Murango is also accused of being part of a cohort of mainly independent MCAs who addressed the mass media on notice of motion to impeach Waiguru.

‘It is no longer tenable for you to lead Government business in the county assembly, we find this behaviour of refusing to listen to the party headquarters to be gross misconduct as articulated in artcle 13 of the party constitution’ the letter said

Speaking on Thursday, Wamumu ward MCA John Bapstita Kanga and Tebere ward MCA Gudson Muchina said the Jubilee party has no power to dictate who is supposed to be majority leader in Kirinyaga.

Gatundu South Member of Parliament Moses Kuria has dismissed claims by the government that two people identified as Brenda and Brian had been healed from COVID-19.

On Wednesday, April 1, President Uhuru Kenyatta held a televised meeting with two recovered coronavirus patients.

The president who was at State House engaged with the recovered patients, Brenda and Brian who were at Afya House.

The President identified the two patients as Brenda Cherotich who was the first patient to test positive for the virus in the country and Brian Orina who got infected by Brenda.

“Brenda we have been referring to you as patient 1, it was necessary to keep your details confidential but you are a special woman and a special young Kenyan because immediately you felt something was wrong, realizing what was happening in the world and without being coerced or pushed by your parents you took it upon yourself to go to Kenyatta Hospital and to tell them you were not well. We are very proud of you Brenda,” the President stated

Confident Brenda and Brian narrated how they discovered they had the virus and their journey to recovery.

However, Moses Kuria argues that the head of state was misled on this.

Mr Kuria has termed the President’s meeting with Brenda and Brian as the Prophet Owuor healing Press Conference for the Brenda & Brian Initiative, arguing that the government performed badly on COVID-19.

He says that Kenyans should not be fooled, but continue staying safe.

The controversial lawmaker argues that coronavirus is a very lethal killer. He says 100,000 Americans will die in the next two weeks as confirmed by President Trump.

He further argues that someone misled President Kenyatta, arguing that the head of state is lonely.

According to Moses Kuria, President Kenyatta is missing his deputy, Dr William Ruto.

“From a communications point of view, the Government of Kenya performed badly on COVID-19 yesterday. Forget the Prophet Owuor healing Press Conference for the Brenda & Brian Initiative. Do not be fooled. Continue keeping safe. Corona Virus is a very lethal killer. 100,000 Americans will die in the next 2 weeks as confirmed by President Trump. I think someone misled my President yesterday. And I think my President is lonely. And I think my President misses his Deputy,” he posted.

A man of God has found himself in hot soup after misleading his sheep on the most dreaded coronavirus pandemic.

The controversial pastor who is accused of telling his congregation that there is no coronavirus in Africa has been charged by Ugandan Authorities.

Prosecutors accuse Augustine Yiga of making the comments to the Revival Christian Church congregation on Friday, in comments carried by local television stations.

He denied the charges.

“Claiming that Covid-19 doesn’t exist in Africa and Uganda undermines government efforts in fighting the epidemic and exposes the public to great danger of laxity in observing the guidelines on its control and prevention,” Uganda police spokesman Patrick Onyango is quoted by AFP news agency as saying.

The pastor faces a jail term of up to seven years.
