Eliud Kipchoge has made history by being the first human to run a marathon in under two hours.

Kipchoge crossed the finish line in 1:59:40.

When he started the race, he was greeted with a misty autumnal morning and a smattering of fans for his bid to run an unofficial sub-two hour marathon.

The marathon world record holder’s highly controlled attempt to break the two-hour barrier started at 8:15am local time (6.15 GMT) and organisers and there was a crowd of up to 8,000 in Vienna’s Prater Park.

Kipchoge ran 4.4 laps of a 9.6 kilometre course, consisting of a long straight with a loop at each end.

The sport’s governing body, the IAAF, will not recognise the run as an official record because it is not in open competition and it uses in and out pacemakers.

Kipchoge, 34, the reigning Olympic champion who set an official world record of 2:01.39 at the Berlin marathon in September last year, missed out by 26 seconds when he previously attempted to break the two-hour barrier in Monza in May 2017, a race run without spectators.

The 34-year-old was supported by 41 pacemakers who ran in rotating groups and formed a V shape around Kipchoge – as opposed to a diamond formation in Monza – to try and protect him from the wind.

They followed an electric pace car that was programmed to complete the course in 1:59.50 to ensure that Kipchoge ran a steady pace.

In line with the customer service this week, one of the fastest growing betting firms in Kenya, Odibets.com has announced free bet offers to their customers.

This declaration was made by Odibets country marketing manager Aggrey Sayi on Tuesday as the CSW takes effect in most corporate organizations.

For every 5 bets worth 50 bob, each punter will automatically receive Ksh 50 from Odibets as bonus.

“As we celebrate customer service week, we want to appreciate our customers by giving them consistent free bets to win BIG” said Mr. Sayi, Odibets.com country marketing manager reiterating the company’s commitment to give the best betting experience and commitment to sports development in the country.

However, these aren’t the only betting offers on the sports betting company which has been producing millionaires. Attractive betting odds are a big influencer for many customers who pick Odibets as their betting platform of choice.

According to Alex Odari, a painter from Vihiga who won 404,735 twice two days ago with a stake of 49 bob on 11 teams- including the Odibets win boost. He already paid 70,000 as tithe to his church and plans to open a paint shop in Nairobi from his balance.

Another winner, Joseph Karenju from Nyeri who used to bet with another betting company that wasn’t cleared by BCLB and won over 445,041/= thrice on the same day as Odari. He likes to stake small to increase his margins on multibets. He avoided the Manchester curse to win big.

The English Premier League (EPL) spelt out doom for most punters this weekend after Man City suffered a surprise defeat at Etihad to Wolves, Manchester United lost to a struggling Newcastle side while Tottenham continued with their miserable form after being thrashed by Brighton.

Despite the disappointment, that was not the case for one punter Joseph Karenju (a shopkeeper), who won Ksh 425,041.09 thrice, using a stake of Sh10 on a 13  team multibet. Karenju, who hails from Nyeri County, duplicated his 13 team multibet 3 times totalling to Sh30.

He mentioned that he would use the money to boost his wife’s boutique business and become self-employed.

Was Mr. Karenju a genius or was this the day the Lord had indeed made for him?

According to Daniel Macharia, the lead bookmaker at Odibets, Mr Karenju avoided the EPL all together. Macharia stated that the punter strategically picked winning outcomes of 13 Division 1, League 1 and La Liga and Serie A teams to net a mouth-watering sum of Ksh 1,402,641 from 3 bets.

Odibets country marketing manager Aggrey Sayi noted that this was the advantage of having a variety of leagues provided on the betting platform. “Odibets’ focus is to give our customers a better betting experience and sometimes, this involves making available exciting league games sports such as tennis and basketball with over 130 markets each from far countries like China, Brazil among others.

“Our customers should use the scroll features and broad categories like countries to strike it big on these matches like Joseph,” My Sayi said while announcing the launch of SUPA5, an exciting new bonus scheme that rewards Odibets customers with more free bets every week even as they commemorate their customer service week.

Was it mere luck or prowess in predicting matches? A punter did the unthinkable and correctly predicted 4 correct score bets on 4 games via Odibets, which is one of the few licensed betting companies in Kenya.

Oh, and that’s only one crazy part of the story. His win came from a bet against 8976 odds and a stake of 100/= which secured 718,080/= for him.

Unbelievable, right?

Dalton Kisaka, a pump attendant from Taita Taveta, has placed over 300 football bets with Odibets since joining and correct scores are his favorite markets.

“Strikers and teams should score goals and that’s why my choice of bets are correct score markets. Odibets has boosted odds on them,” he says.

“It is not easy to bet like this because the odds are so against you. However, the wins cover everything. I rarely bet on more than 3 games but my wins are huge,” Kisaka adds while encouraging Kenyans to join Odibets because of the boosted odds and fast loading website.

Speaking during the winners’ unveiling, Odibets Country Marketing Manager Aggrey Sayi said that Odibets is focused on giving a better betting experience to customers with various options in the betting marketing that are breathtaking.

Premier League giants Manchester United have already strengthened their defence and forward departments in the summer transfer window by signing players like Aaron Wan-Bissaka, Harry Maguire and Daniel James.

However, they are yet to identify a quality player and invest in that midfield position. Reports are now stating that they could sign Premier League star Declan Rice for a reported £100 Million deal.

According to a report carried by Express, Manchester United will have to shell out as much as £100 Million if they want to draft in Declan Rice from West Ham United. The English star has been a pivotal figure for West Ham United since the previous season and has even become a regular part of the national team.

Manchester United were linked with Rice in the recently concluded summer as they were looking for someone who could partner or even replace Paul Pogba. The Red Devils were also at one point close to signing Sergej Milinkovic-Savic and Bruno Fernandes but none of the deals materialised.

Since a lot of other teams were interested in him, the Hammers have put a huge price tag for him. Rice has as many as four years remaining on his contract and this means that Manchester United will find it hard to get the price down.

On the other hand, Manchester United might themselves lose some of the available midfield options. Pogba has been linked with a move to various clubs while Juan Mata is also being linked with a move out of the club.

It remains to be seen if the deal concerning Rice materialises though.

While most mistakes in life prove costly, that was not the case for one Julius Kipkemboi, who hails from Kipkaren catchment, Nandi County.

Kipkemboi, predicted 19 games correctly on Odibets to win Ksh 423,693 with only Ksh 49, a victory propelled by a mistake he accidentally committed while placing his bet.

He had initially planned to bet on an Arsenal win as they played Watford on Sunday, however, his luck struck as he mistakenly picked Arsenal women, who were playing against Manchester United in the FA Women’s Super League, with the former winning.

Had Kipkemboi placed Arsenal men, he would have lost the bet as the Gunners were held by Watford after a shambolic defensive display. This was one of the games that cost many punters their bets.

“I picked my betting strategy from my father who’s been betting on sports for over 40 years,” said the elated 37-year-old who is a hotelier.

Kipkemboi spoke in the presence of his father, who accompanied his son as he collected his dues from the betting firm.

“So many leagues are back after the International Break and our customers will be spoilt for choice on the offers they can enjoy from Odibets whether it’s the EPL, Champions League, or Serie A,” stated Daniel Macharia, Odibets lead bookmaker.

Mr Macharia added, “We have a 10% boost on wins which boosts our customers’ wins – in Kipkemboi’s case, his boost was around Ksh 40,000.

Odibets is one of the fastests betting websites in Kenya offering boosted odds, 100’s of markets and thousands of live betting events.

Soccer Star Dennis Oliech has dismissed his Gor Mahia contract termination letter insisting that he is still a Gor Mahia player.

Speaking in an exclusive interview with the Nation Sports, Oliech revealed that the main reason for not attending training is because of an injury he has been nursing on his fractured hand suffered at the end of last season.

Gor Mahia while terminating his contract stated that he had committed a gross misconduct, among them being not attending training and that the team was not aware of his whereabouts.

“These stories you have been hearing are all lies and the truth of the matter is that I have never recovered from the injury on my hand that fractured, the bandage was just removed two weeks ago.The team manager has only called me twice contrary to what is being said and even if I didn’t pick he could have texted me. I trained with Gor Mahia twice after they returned from Burundi and after advice from the doctor I had to stay away, the team manager knows that,” said Oliech as quoted by the Nation.

He insisted that he is still a Gor Mahia player and blamed the club for not being patient with him as he recovers from his injury.

He further alluded the termination of his contract to reports that he intends to vie for the vacant Kibra parliamentary seat in the looming by elections and revealed that the issue is being used to victimise him for being at the fore front in agitating for players’ rights concerning the salaries and other issues of mismanagement at the club.
