Boniface Mwangi

Activist Boniface Mwangi had an unusual day on Friday after finding himself on the wrong side of some General Service Unit (GSU) officers who had accompanied NMS officers who had initially identied themselves as KRA officers.

The officers were going around Nairobi CBD buildings to arrest people doing business without proper permits.

In a video that has sparked uproar and praises towards Mwangi in equal measures, he is heard asking the men in civilian and a GSU officer to show their IDs.

Despite the police officer identifying himself, Mwangi adamantly told them to produce their IDs lest they won’t make any arrests.

“Nani ako na ID hapa from KRA?(Who has an ID here from KRA?) identify yourselves. Uniform sio kitambulisho (Police uniform cannot be used as a sign of ID),” Mwangi said while referring to the police officer.

He took to his twitter account to narrate the fiasco and shared the videos he recorded earlier.

“Thread of how broken our country is. I was at my barbershop when these young men walked in, with a GSU officer and arrested the receptionist. We asked them to identify themselves, they said they were from KRA but they didn’t have IDs. We asked them to call someone who had an ID.”

The men looked undeterred by Boniface’s demands and had confidence because there were accompanied by the police. It seems he (Mwangi) irked them and they decided to call for back up.

A scuffle soon ensued when a woman came and showed them her ID while asking why Mwangi was recording them.

“Madam unaitwa nani? kwa nini mnakuja kushika watu bila ID? hawa watu tumewauliza hawana ID,” Mwangi asked before other police officers intervened. This loosely translates to (“Madam what is your name? why do you come to arrest people without your IDs? we have asked these people but they have no ID.)

Mwangi also said they found out that the young men and GSU officers were under the command of Nairobi Metropolitan Services (NMS) employee.

“It’s Friday and they’re picking people from shops, beating them and taking them to a lorry for not having “branding licences.'”

“Because I recorded them, the GSU officers wanted to take my phone, I refused and in my attempt to run away, I fell. They caught up with me, and beat me up. Even after the beating I didn’t hand over the phone,” continued Mwangi on his post.

Mwangi further said no one was arrested because they raised their voices to protest. “I was slightly injured. The harassment and the brutalization of innocent citizens going about their business was captured on their building’s CCTV.”

Health Chief Administrative Secretary Dr Mercy Mwngangi on Sunday evening announced that anyone who will be found outside during curfew hours will be arrested and taken into a mandatory quarantine at their own costs.

Her statement comes a few days after Health Cabinet Secretary Mutahi Kagwe and Inspector General of Police Hillary Mutyambai announced that anyone found without a face mask will be arrested to face a six months jail or pay a fine of Ksh 20,000.

But did you know that these announcements have created avenues for police to extort money from Kenyans?

Well, Controversial activist Boniface Mwangi has revealed how rogue Police officers are extracting bribes from poor Kenyans amid Coronavirus crisis.

According to Mwangi, rogue police officers are now asking for bribes threatening to take anyone declining their demand to quarantine at their own cost. In justifying his claims he used a example of his close friend who had to part with a whole sum of Ksh.10,000 to get his brother and a friend released.

“My boy just paid 10,000 bribe at Buruburu police station to get his younger brother and his friend released. The police arrested them while they were outside their house chilling. They were given an option to pay the bribe or be taken to quarantine at their own cost tomorrow,” Mwangi noted.

“My boy laughed and said he is paying the price for voting for Jubilee three times. He told me there is woman who had sent her son to the Mpesa shop and the boy got arrested. He says the woman cried at the station because she didn’t have bribe money until the OCS released the son,” he added.

Activist Boniface Mwangi has called for the arrest of former Sports Cabinet Secretary Rashid Echesa after linking him to sex trafficking business.

This follows an exclusive article by The Standard Newspaper that exposed a sex den in Ruaka which was using underage girls.

The Standard linked the sex den to an unnamed ex-minister, whom Boniface Mwangi believes is Rashid Echesa.

According to the local daily, Police rescued the underage girls and arrested three suspects including a 44-year-old man believed to be the brothel manager.

Skimpily dressed girls, most of them underage were led to the elevator, down the seven floors and into police vehicles. For close to a year, the house was being used as a brothel by the proprietors.

The daily further reports that the former Cabinet minister has been operating the brothel since the beginning of the year.

But activist Mwangi while referring to a previous incident where Echesa was linked to another trafficking case involving Pakistan Bale Bale dancers says Echesa conducted all these illegal activities while having police bodyguards.

The activist has accused the police authorities for protecting a sex trafficker and called for immediate action.

Activist Boniface Mwangi has been blasted by Kenyans on Twitter for dragging the names of ODM party leader Raila Odinga and Mombasa Governor Hassan Ali Joho into Mombasa economic crisis.

Mwangi who was speaking during demonstrations organised by Haki Africa Human Rights group on Monday said that Raila and Joho are to blame for the crisis that has come as a result of SGR.

The activist cited that Mombasa residents voted for Raila and Joho heavily in 2017 but the two have remained mum on the crisis that is threatening to kill the economy of the region.

Mombasa residents have been demonstrating to protest against government’s move to let cargo from the coast be transported via SGR line, killing the economy of road transporters.

However, Kenyans have turned against Mwangi, accusing him of being petty. They argue that neither Joho nor Raila operate the SGR, nor are they in the national government.

They argue that Mwangi should blame the national government and leave Raila and Joho out of he discussions.

Here are some of the reactions.

Activist Boniface Mwangi has slammed renown blogger and social media influencer Xtian Dela after he defended President Uhuru Kenyatta’s daughter Ngina Kenyatta following the backlash she faced after making her youth empowerment speech on Saturday.

Ngina was criticized by Kenyans on Twitter after making a speech about empowerment on behalf of the Kenyatta Trust. She was delivering the speech during the African Philanthropy Forum held on Saturday.

In her speech, she talked about how the Kenyatta Trust is empowering the new generations of Africans through education. She went on to give an example of a Turkana student who is currently studying Petroleum Engineering in China.

Kenyans, however, were not convinced by her speech. They took their opinions to the Twitter platform with some citing that she has no right to lecture the youth as she was “spoonfed”.

It is at this point when Xtain Dela intervened, arguing that “it is stupid attacking Ngina Kenyatta!”

According to Xtina Dela, it is not Ngina’s fault that she was born privileged.

Xtian Dela believes Ngina is doing the most she can do to make Kenya a better place.

But activist Mwangi did not take any of Xtian Dela’s argument. He attacked him, arguing that Kenyans respected Xtian’s right to be stupid.

According to the activist, Ngina was told the truth, “her papa is the reason why young Kenyans are unemployed. Her grandpa is the reason we have entrenched land issues and tribalism”.

” We respect your right to be stupid @xtiandela.Ngina Kenyatta was told the truth, her papa is the reason why young Kenyans are unemployed. Her grandpa is the reason we have entrenched land issues and tribalism. Her grandma was an elephant poacher. Her mama scammed us with Beyond Zero.,” posted Mwangi.

It is not less than once activist Boniface Mwangi has been caught up in a road drama with VIPs over traffic.

The activist has been sharing videos of different incidents he has engaged in a drama with high profile people who are entitled to road clearance using sirens.

But this time round, Mwangi might have engaged with Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party leader Raila Odinga unknowingly.

In a video he shared via his official twitter account, Mwangi says a police officer in a car with registration number KCH 995E insulted him because he refused to be “bullied”. He says the police was in the lead car for KCP 755S as seen in the video in his tweet below.

However, Kenyans on Twitter has revealed the owner of the above named car registration numbers.

Kicking off the debate, blogger Benji Ndolo said that he vehicles belong to Raila.

This is when Kenyans on twitter started posting photos of Raila from past events while in the said cars.

The shared photos show Raila in two different events using car registration number KCH 995 E.

Reactions show some Kenyans accusing Mwangi of engaging in the drama with Raila whom they say is entitled to security and clearance of traffic using sirens.

We thought it is over, but it seems not yet done! Former Harambee Stars footballer McDonald Mariga’s Kibra parliamentary candidature has continued to spark debate not only on social media, but also from activists.

Activist Boniface Mwangi who was appearing on KTN News’ point blank show on Wednesday night has accused president Uhuru Kenyatta and and his deputy Dr William Ruto of playing around with the lives of Kibra people.

The activist says the president and his deputy were wrong to impose Mariga to the people of Kibra.

Mwangi says the two leaders do not mean any good to Kibra people by imposing to them a person who cannot communicate, cannot legislate, cannot lead and has no papers.

He says Mariga cannot not even get employed at Brookside company as a cleaner, since papers are needed for any job at the company.

He further accused Mariga of faking his age and not being able to vote after all.

According to the human rights activist, President Kenyatta would have given Mariga a job at K24 as a football pundit instead of forcing him to Kibra people.

Mwangi’s statement comes a day after ODM party members raised concerns over what they claimed as Jubilee party’s plans to rig the upcoming November 7 by-elections.

The Raila Odinga-led party had to meet IEBC officials on Wednesday morning demanding the updated Kibra register of voters, where it was agreed that the register will be available next week.
