Nimechoka Na Curfew! CS Kagwe States As He Says Government To Make Changes

Health Cabinet Secretary Mutahi Kagwe on Wednesday October 13, 2021 stated that he is also tired of the new mode of operation in the country since Kenya reported the first case of Covid-19.

He appreciated the fact that Kenyans are tired with the different measures such as the nationwide curfew, set by the government to curb the spread of the pandemic.

The CS while speaking exclusively to a local radio station said that the government will soon ease some of the Coivid-19 restrictions once the country registers a positive rate.

“I am tired too and I am a Kenyan and I want to get back to normal life but it will take a while to get back to what we call normal life because even after opening the economy, things like wearing of masks and social distancing will remain,” said Kagwe.

According to the CS, Covid-19 fatality rate has dropped significantly as a result of the government’s intervention.

He further stated that Kenya has made improvements in the fight against the novel virus, stating that the country’s fatality rate is currently below the global average.

He attributed this drop to Kenyans’ adherence to Covid-19 protocols and the commitment by health workers in the fight against the virus.

Nationwide Curfew Extended

Health Cabinet Secretary Mutahi Kagwe has announced an extension of nationwide curfew for another 30 days.

In a statement issued on Monday 4th October 2021, the CS said the 4 am to 10 pm curfew will continue for another month in a bid to curb new infections of coronavirus.

Kagwe also announced that all public gatherings and political meetings have been banned nationwide.

This announcement comes as politicians continue traversing the country in campaign efforts ahead of the 2022 general elections.

In September, the CS said that the government would not easy COVID-19 protocols unless the infection rate go down.

“Our real problem has been funerals, funerals where people gather in large numbers and it’s crucial for us to avoid that. If the infection goes down, we will release the economy and allow people to attend funerals since we shall have curbed the virus. This is when people will have the freedom to run their normal activities but until then we need to be vigilant,” he said.

Government Issues New Direction On The Nationwide Curfew

The government has announced new direction on the ongoing nationwide dusk to dawn curfew amid speculations among Kenyans.

The government through Health Cabinet Secretary Mutahi Kagwe has announced that the curfew that is currently being observed from 10pm to 4am will continue for areas outside the Western region of Kenya, and 7pm to 4am for area in Western region of Kenya.

The government further announced that all public and personal meetings have been suspended countrywide. All government and intergovernmental meetings will also be virtual or postponed, according to the CS.

“We emphasize that all public gatherings and in person meetings of any kind are suspended country wide. The Curfew will continue across the country from 10pm-4am,” said CS Kagwe.

All forms of physical congregational meetings should be done under the guidelines of the interfaith council. In-person worship is to be limited to a third of the capacity of places of worship.  The CS urged congregants to maintain a physical distance of at least 1 metre while indoors.

All restaurants and eateries should observe the guidelines issued by the Ministry of Health.

This is Not Time to Say You Want More Money, CS Kagwe Dismisses Doctors’ Demand For Allowances

Health Cabinet Secretary Mutahi Kagwe has dismissed the call from health workers for allowances.

Speaking on Wednesday November 18 when he appeared on Citizen TV’s JKLIVE show hosted by Jeff Koinange, CS Kagwe said that this is not the right time for health workers to say that they want more money.

CS Kagwe said that doctors and all health workers should currently concentrate on their worker, owing to the situation of the Covid-19 pandemic in the country.

He noted that the health workers should at the moment focus on saving lives.

“This is not the time, in my view, to start saying that ‘I want more money..for now let’s focus on saving lives,” he said.

The doctors through their unions have been complaining of neglect from government.

Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentists Union (KMPDU) had argued that their members have been receiving low quality personal protective equipment from the government, and that their allowances have not been paid.

The union had early this week issued a three week strike notice, if the government will not take any action.

On Wednesday, Members of Parliament sitting in the Parliamentary Health committee were brought to tears when doctors explained to them their plight.

However, CS Kagwe dismissed the issue of allowances, saying that the doctors should understand that the pandemic has hit every organization, and some workers are even taking half their salary.

On the issue of PPEs, CS Kagwe said that they are not currently an issue, since the country has enough of them.

Kagwe indicated that even some of the local PPE manufacturers are exporting them.

He added that counties are free to get protective equipment for their hospitals from the Kenya Medical Supplies Authority (KEMSA), since the government already allocated them funds.

On the issue of providing a better health cover for health care workers, CS Kagwe noted that it has been already sorted, citing that all civil servants are currently enjoying a better medical cover, effective from October this year.

While addressing the issue of doctors contracting Covid-19, CS Kagwe said that the health care workers are also socialising with others just like any other human being, bringing a possibility of them contracting the disease from elsewhere, not necessarily their work place.

He said that the government is committed to protecting health care workers against getting infected while on their line of duty.

CS Kagwe Clears The Air on Robert Burale Contracting Covid-19

Health Cabinet Secretary Mutahi Kagwe has broken his silence on the issue of motivational speaker, pastor Robert Burale being a Covid-19 patient.

Speaking in Mombasa County on Thursday July 9, 2020 while responding to a question raised by one of the journalists, CS Kagwe said he don’t know any person called Burale.

Responding to the question of whether Burale was paid to act as a Covid-19 patient, Kagwe said that the government has not, and cannot pay someone to act.

He however noted that Burale can be literally sick but Kenyans have taken it as a joke.

Soon after preacher and motivational speaker Robert Burale spoke out about testing positive for COVID-19, netizens had varied reactions.

was the subject of discussion across social media with some saying they find it hard to believe that he has the coronavirus.It was shortly after that that netizens created a challenge to mimic his hospital video. This prompted Kenya Film Classification Board CEO Ezekiel Mutua to advise netizens to refrain from mocking and making jokes about other people’s health.

While giving an update on his health from his hospital bed, Burale earlier cautioned Kenyans from taking the pandemic lightly.

While breaking news of his admission at The Nairobi Hospital, Burale explained that he owes it to his family and friends to publicly declare his COVID-19 status. Upon receiving the news, he said he was scared and immediately thought about his daughter whom they had been spending time together. However, in his post, Burale confirmed that his daughter is okay.

The country has recorded 447 new COVID-19 cases in the last 24 hours after testing 3,803 samples bringing the total to 8,975.

This is the largest number of confirmed cases in day since the first case was reported in the country.

CS Mutahi Kagwe said a total of 64 patients were discharged bringing the total number of recoveries to 2,657.

Four more people also succumbed to the disease in the last 24 hours bringing the death toll to 173.

Kagwe said since the cessation of movement was lifted three days ago, the government has been focusing on county preparedness to fight the curb of COVID-19.

He urged county governors who had not reached the maximum of 300 beds as proposed by the Ministry of health to do so.

Covid-19: 278 More Kenyans Test Positive, 89 Recover as 2 Succumb

Kenya has registered 278 new Covid-19 positive cases.

Speaking in Makueni County on Wednesday July 8, 2020, Health Cabinet Secretary Mutahi Kagwe said that the 278 people tested positive from 3,053 samples run over the last 24 hours.

This now brings the total number of case load in the country to 8,528, from a total of 196,508 samples tested so far.

However, on a good note, 89 patients have been discharged from various hospitals, bringing to 2,593 the total number of recoveries.

CS Kagwe also thanked the healthcare workers for their dedication and commitment to their duty.

“Today 89 patients have been discharged from various hospitals, bringing to 2,593 the total number of recoveries. I want to thank our healthcare workers for their dedication and commitment to duty,” Kagwe said.

On a sad note, Kenya has lost two more Covid-19 patients, bringing the total number of fatalities in the country to 169.

“We have lost two (2) patients to the disease, bringing our fatality to 169. Our heartfelt condolences to the families and friends who have lost their loved ones,” said CS Kagwe.

Distribution of the New 260 Covid-19 Cases by Counties

Kenya has registered 260 new cases of Covid-19. The new cases were confirmed after a total of 3651 samples were tested.This brings the number of cases in the country to 4,738.

The highest number of Covid-19 positive cases to have ever been confirmed in a single day comes as the country marks 100 days since the first coronavirus case was reported on March 13, 2020.

At the same time, the CS said 21 people have been discharged from various hospitals in the country, adding the number of recoveries to 1,607.

The new cases are distributed in 15 counties.

Nairobi is the leading County with 157 new cases, Mombasa has 42 cases, Kwale has 15, Kiambu has 14, Machakos has nine cases, Kajiado has seven, Migori has three, Nakuru has three, Busia has three, Homabay has two with Kilifi, Kisii , Kisumu, Kakamega and Laikipia have one case each.

Speaking on Sunday June 21, 2020 while giving the daily Covid-19 updates, Health Cabinet Secretary Mutahi Kagwe said that the government has made progress in handling the virus from escalating since the first case.

The CS said the government will bolster the efforts to have more testing kits in the coming weeks. Kagwe added that the journey has never been smooth since 123 people have succumbed to the virus.

Distribution of 86 New Covid-19 Cases in Nairobi

Kenya on Tuesday registered 133 new cases of Covid-19, raising the country’s total confirmed cases to 3,860.

The new cases emerged from 3,255 samples that were tested in the last 24 hours.

Health CS Mutahi Kagwe on Tuesday June 16, 2020 while giving the daily Covid-19 updates at Afya House, Nairobi said Kenya’s cumulative tests now stand at 121,926.

Another 40 patients have been discharged, raising the total to 1,326. The youngest is 13 years old, while oldest is 90 years.

The new cases are distributed in the following counties: Nairobi 86, Mombasa 27, Busia 5, Kilifi 2, Kiambu 7, Kajiado 2, Machakos and Murang’a one each.

Westlands has 13, Embakasi South (10), Makadara has nine, Langata has eight, Embakasi East and Roysambu five each, Starehe has four, Ruaraka, Embakasi Central, Dagoretti North have three cases each, Embakasi North, Embakasi West, Kasarani, Dagoretti South and Kibra have one case each.

133 More Test Positive as Kenya’s Tally Soars to 3,727

Kenya has recorded 133 Covid-19 new  cases, bringing the total to 3,727.

Speaking on Monday June 15, 2020 at Ol Kalou in Nyandarua County, Health CS Mutahi Kagwe said the new cases are out of 3,365 samples tested in the last 24 hours.

A total of 180,701 tests have been done to date.

A total of 33 more discharges were recorded, raising the recoveries to 1,286.

However, one more patient has succumbed, raising the fatalities to 104.

Kenya Announces 147 New Covid-19 Cases

Kenya has announced 147 new positive cases of Covid-19.

This is after testing 2,831 samples, bringing the total number of confirmed cases in the country to 1,618.

Speaking at Kiambu County Headquarters while giving daily Covid-19 updates, Health CS Mutahi Kagwe told Kenyans to take all measures issued seriously.

A total of 70, 172 samples have so far been tested.

The ages of the positive cases in Kenya range from 1-87 years.

All of the new cases announced on Thursday May 28 are Kenyans, with 87 men and 60 women.

Out of the 147, Nairobi has 90 new cases, Mombasa has 41 , Kiambu has 3, Nyeri has 2, Uasin Gishu 2 , Kajiado 1, Kilifi 1, Embu 1, Murang’a 1 and Machakos 1.

No One is Safe! Kagwe Warns as Kenya Records Triple Digit Rise in Covid-19 cases

Kenya has recorded 123 new Covid-19 positive cases, raising total number of confirmed cases in the country to 1471

This is after a total of 3,077 samples were tested in the last 24 hours. 85 of the new cases are in Nairobi and 24 from Mombasa.

In Nairobi, 33 Mathare residents were recorded as positive.

Three more people have died of Covid-19, raising the number to 55.

Speaking on Wednesday May 27, 2020 during the daily COVID-19 updates, Health Cabinet Secretary Mutahi Kagwe said that infection rate is now higher in informal settlements like Mathare (33) and Kibera (14).

He also warned Kenyans to be vigilant, citing that no one is currently safe since the cases are now coming from the community.

Covid-19: Kibra Now a New Hot Spot as Kenya’s Tally Soars to 1161

Nairobi has been hit hard, having registered the highest number of new Covid-19 cases that were announced on Friday May 22, 2020.

Speaking in Machakos while giving the daily Covid-19 updates, Health Cabinet Secretary Mutahi Kagwe confirmed 52 new cases of coronavirus.

Out of the 52 new cases, 23 cases have come from Nairobi, with Mombasa and Busia having seven each.

The cases were confirmed  from a sample size of 2,567 tested in the last 24 hours. This brings to 1161 total number of confirmed positive Covid-19 cases in the country.

However, Nairobi’s Kibra is now becoming a hot spot for the deadly virus.

Out of the 23 cases that came from Nairobi, eight are from Kibra. The densely populated area now has a total of 60 confirmed positive Covid-19 cases.

CS Kagwe said to keep the numbers low, Kenyans must adhere to measures as directed by the government. He expressed his fear in the rising number of cases in Kibra.

On Thursday May 21, the ministry through Dr Patrick Amoth also projected that the peak of infections in the country is expected to be around August and September, when Kenyans are expected to see at least 200 cases recorded in a day.

Kenya’s Covid-19 Peak Will Hit in August, September, 200 Cases to be Reported Daily

Health Director General Patrick Amoth  has said that they project that Kenya’s Covid-19 peak will hit in August, towards September.

During this period, the country is likely to record 200 cases and above on a daily basis.

Speaking on Thursday May 21 at Afya House during the Covid-19 daily briefing, Dr Amoth urged Kenyans to continue exercising social distancing and observing all the government directives.

“According to our current modelling, we project our peak will be around August-September where will be reporting about 200 cases per day,” Dr Amoth said.

The 200 cases that are set to be reported during the period will be only if Kenyans continue exercising the current measures that have been put by the government.

According to Dr Amoth, the measures that the government undertook at the time including closure of schools and cessation of movement in Nairobi and Mombasa  greatly reduced the spread of the virus.

Kenya’s Covid-19 cases have risen to 1,109, with 80 new cases recorded.

This is from a sample size of 3,102 tested in the last 24 hours. This is the largest sample size that has been tested.

Health CS Mutahi Kagwe on Thursday said Kenya has increased its testing capacity by 40 per cent in the last two weeks. Of the new cases, 41 are from Nairobi, while 20 are from Mombasa.A total of 13 new cases are from Kibera.

CS Kagwe Explains How Daring Mourners Took 7 Covid-19 Cases to Siaya

Health Cabinet Secretary Mutahi Kagwe has narrated how mourners from Nairobi’s Kibra traveled all the way from Nairobi to Siaya.

Unfortunately, a coronavirus patient was among the mourners, leading to seven coronavirus infections in Siaya County.

According to CS Kagwe , the Kenyan citizen from Kibera left for the Siaya burial without the authority to travel.

“There are seven new cases in Siaya and the story is a sad one because the departure point of that case is Kibera,” Kagwe said on Thursday.

“…you are in Kibera and leave for a burial without the authority or travel document signed.”

Kagwe said the police officers thought the forged documents were genuine and gave way to the mourners to travel through roadblocks.

“.. the seven mourners are all positive and were identified by contact teams in Siaya. There is a reason why we lock down places…” he said.

Kagwe said that instead of going to the burial to bury one, they might suffer the same fate.

Covid-19: Kenya Confirms 80 New Cases, Nairobi Hit Hard

Kenya has confirmed 80 new cases of Covid-19.

This brings to 1109 total number of confirmed Covid-19 positive cases in the country. The cases were confirmed after a total of 3102 samples were tested.

Out of this new cases, 41 are from Nairobi, with Mombasa producing 20 cases.

A totalof 13 new cases are from Kibera.

Kenya has increased its testing capacity by 40 percent in the past few weeks.

Speaking on Thursday May 21 at Afya House during the daily Covid-19 briefings, Health Cabinet Secretary Mutahi Kagwe said that patients can indeed suffer infections more than once because the virus can reoccur between 30-50 days after the initial recovery, therefore people who have recovered are supposed to know this fact.

The numbers that the country has been reporting keep on increasing because the government has ramped up its testing capacity.

Kagwe on Wednesday May 20, 2020 announced the extension of cessation of movement in and out of Eastleigh and Mombasa Old Town.

The cessation will now last until June 6, 2020.

“In order to contain further spread of the virus; there shall be an extension of the cessation of movement in Eastleigh & Old Town until 6th June 2020. Eateries & hawking prohibited until 6th June 2020,” CS Kagwe announced.

Kagwe said the extension was because the areas were still a challenge in regards to cases surging.

“Mombasa continues to be a challenge. 30 of the 66 cases reported today are from Mombasa,” Kagwe said.

Kagwe Announces Tough Measures as Kenya’s Covid-19 Cases Hit 1029

Residents of Eastleigh in Nairobi and those in Mombasa Old Town will have to face a tough situation as Covid-19 pandemic continues to hit Kenya hard.

Health Cabinet Secretary Mutahi Kagwe on Wednesday May 20, 2020 announced the extension of cessation of movement in and out of Eastleigh and Mombasa Old Town.

The cessation will now last until June 6, 2020.

“In order to contain further spread of the virus; there shall be an extension of the cessation of movement in Eastleigh & Old Town until 6th June 2020. Eateries & hawking prohibited until 6th June 2020,” CS Kagwe announced.

This is after CS Kagwe announced 66 more new cases of Covid-19 in the country.

Kagwe said the extension was because the areas were still a challenge in regards to cases surging.

“Mombasa continues to be a challenge. 30 of the 66 cases reported today are from Mombasa,” Kagwe said.

Kenya’s Covid-19 cases have risen to 1,029 with 66 new cases recorded.

This is the highest number since the first case recorded.

Kagwe said 64 of the new cases are Kenyans, while two are foreigners.

A total of 30 are from Mombasa, while 26 are from Nairobi. Three of the new cases are in Kajiado.

The government locked down Eastleigh and Old Town on May 6 2020 as coronavirus cases surged.
