A man stabbed his girlfriend four times before turning the killer knife on himself on Tuesday night in Juja, Kiambu County.

Witnesses told DCI detectives that Daniel Mwangi Wairimu, 39, had earlier visited his girlfriend Jane Njogu at her Mpesa shop within Juja shopping centre, where the two clashed over an unestablished matter.

The tiff went on until the lady who is believed to be in her early 30s closed up her business, then the two proceeded to the lady’s house at Palyjote Apartments in Juja.

Minutes past 10pm, piercing wails of a woman had however, hurled the neighbourhood into befuddlement. Mwangi drove three knife stabs into his girlfriend’s back, and a fourth one through her belly.

Thunderstruck neighbours who thronged the scene found her body in a pool of blood, and were too late to save her life.

After the deadly attack, Mwangi reportedly turned the knife on himself, driving it through his neck. In an attempt to save him, members of the public rushed him to hospital but he succumbed to profuse bleeding on the way.

The cause of the appalling deaths of Daniel Mwangi and Jane Njogu is currently being investigated by detectives based in Juja. Meanwhile, the bodies have been moved to Thika General Kago Funeral Home awaiting autopsy.

Detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) based in Juja, Kiambu County, are hunting down three suspects who killed a 23-year-old university student in cold blood on Monday night.

The killers are said to have escaped with the victim’s mobile phone and other valuables.

DCI boss George Kinoti in statement on Tuesday evening said Joel Juma, a fourth year Industrial Chemistry student at the Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT), was stabbed two times on the chest by one of the thugs before they fled to darkness in the 2am incident.

According to Juma’s girlfriend who is a Law student at the Mt Kenya University, Parklands Campus, she had escorted her boyfriend to get some revision materials from his classmates a few blocks away, when the blood thirst gang accosted them.

The girlfriend had gone to visit his lover last evening at around 6pm and found him studying for his examinations. She prepared a meal that they shared together before they retired to bed.

However, Juma later woke up and embarked on his books but at 2am, he asked her to escort him to where a classmate lived a few blocks away, to get some reference material that he needed before morning.

It is while on their way when the thugs attacked them near hotel Lilies, demanding for money and mobile phones.

Two of them descended on Juma with blows and kicks before stabbing him twice on the left side of his chest, leaving him lying on the ground in a pool of blood.

The third assailant manhandled the lady who hadn’t carried any valuable and luckily, left her unscathed. Local guards who heard the commotion rushed to the scene and together with the heavily shaken girlfriend, helped Juma to a local dispensary where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

Detectives have since established that pockets of a notorious gang, which escaped the ongoing operation to rid Kayole and Dandora of criminals, has found a safe haven in Gachororo, where they are regrouping with the aim of establishing a fiefdom.

Consequently, a major undercover operation to completely annihilate the gang has been launched in the area. Detectives from the Crime Research and Intelligence Bureau (CRIB) and the Special Service Unit (SSU) have been dispatched conduct the operation.

A woman has died after a matatu conductor allegedly threw her and another passenger out of a moving vehicle at Juja following a disagreement over bus fare.

According to a police statement, the matatu’s registration number is KCZ 929C, which belongs to Memba Travellers Sacco.

The incident is alleged to have happened on February 6. The deceased woman who has been identified as Judy Wanjiku is said to have been working at Equity Bank, Ruiru branch.

Inspector General of Police Hillary Mutyambai has said that the vehicle involved has already been detained at Wanguru Police Station in Mwea.

Responding to the concerns raised by netizens over the unfortunate incident on Monday, February 8, Mutyambai said that the police are currently looking for the driver who is at large.

He assured Kenyans that a stern action was going to be taken against the culprits involved.

“The vehicle involved has already been detained at Wanguru Police Station in Mwea. We are currently looking for the driver who is at large. I assure you action will be taken against the culprits involved,” Mutyambai said.

Juja OCS Dorothy Mugarisha said that the incident was first reported on Saturday, February 6, when the two victims walked into the station after they were violently shoved out of the vehicle over a disagreement over fare.

At the time, Mugarisha said the two victims, John Njoroge and 26-year-old Judy Wanjiku Nyaga, seemed to have incurred slight injuries on their hands and legs.

Eyewitnesses said that the matatu driver allegedly also wanted to run them over after his tout threw them out of the moving vehicle.

But onlookers reacted quickly and pulled them out of the matatu’s path. After the incident, the duo was treated at a Ruiru hospital and discharged.

However, on Sunday, a brother of the injured woman informed the Juja OCS that her sister later complained of headaches and was taken to Thika Level V Hospital where she was pronounced dead on arrival.

Following the fatality report, Mugarisha said that they tracked the Memba Saccor vehicle that was involved in the incident to Mwea where it was impounded and taken to the local police station.

This is, however, not the first incident to happen.

Last year, a driver and conductor of a Githurai bus from which a man was pushed to his death.

The driver Naftally Kalama Fondo, 33, and his conductor, Alex Macau Gikonyo, 20, appeared before Chief Magistrate Hestone Nyaga where they were charged.

A detective attached to Kasarani police division, in a sworn affidavit, said Mr Kimondo died on the spot after being pushed out of the speeding bus that was headed to the Nairobi central business district from Githurai.

In 2018, a woman died after she was reportedly pushed out of a moving bus on Thika Road by rogue matatu touts in unclear circumstances.

The woman, only identified as Doreen, was allegedly pushed out of a Githurai bus – KCC 021 A – near Safari Park Hotel.

According to a Twitter user named Peter Pekat (@Pekat2013), the woman died while he was rushing her to Neema Hospital.

Pekat said all the conductors of the matatu from which Doreen was pushed had fled but that he, however, had recorded a statement on the incident at Kasarani Police Station. He also captured the licence plates of the bus.
