Kivutha Kibwana

Makueni Governor Kivutha Kibwana has defended Ruto Deputy President William Ruto’s move to donate goodies to various youth groups, among them being wheelbarrows and handcarts.

Taking to his official twitter account on Wednesday September 30, 2020, the County chief said that the DP is using the opportunity to link up with youths.

“I don’t think Ruto’s main agenda is to dish out wheelbarrows etc. He is trying to bond with youth. You see the Wheel Barrow game? Politics of Symbolism,” Kibwana said.

Recently, governor Kibwana joined Ruto during the installation service of Bishop Rev.Joshua Nzau Kimuyu at the African Inland Church in Ziwani, Nairobi.

The governor has also expressed his interests for the presidential seat come 2022, which Ruto is also eyeing.

Ruto had earlier defended his action, saying that there is a need to change Kenya’s political conversation from power to empowerment and positions to the creation of jobs.

The DP said that the insults from his critics will not stop him from reaching out to the youths who need his help.

Ruto said that the country can no longer be divided by politicians based on tribes.

Speaking at his Karen residence where he met a section of leaders, Ruto said those poking holes into his work were busybodies.

He said at no point has he failed to serve the country as the principal assistant to the President.

“No work has been given to me and I failed to execute,” he said.

Ruto said all his work and responsibilities given to him by the President have been discharged with distinction.

He also seized the moment to tell those purporting to supervise him to focus on their own duties of service delivery to the mwananchi.

Makueni governor Kivutha Kibwana has responded to senator Mutula Kilonzo Junior’s threat against him over governor Wycliffe Oparanya’s order to shut down counties over lack of funds.

Mutula Junior on Wednesday September 16, 2020 while responding to Council of Governors chairman’s memo to all governor to shut down some of the county services, threatened to impeach governor Kibwana should he follow Oparanya’s directive.

“I want to tell my governor Kivutha Kibwana, if you close level 4 hospitals in Makueni, we will impeach you. It is an impeachable offence for any governor to take instructions from another governor and shutdown hospitals,” Kilonzo stated.

One after the other, the senators stood and expressed their displeasure with the COG, terming Oparanya as incompetent.

Bungoma Senator Moses Wetangula indicated that it was a clear abuse of power saying that the council of governors was not the employer of any county governors.

Responding to the senators, however, Kibwana indicated that the senators were solely to blame for the stalemate.

“For three months @Senate_KE has denied Counties funds for development and salaries. Can @SenMutula run a county as Governor without funds for three months? My 2014 impeachment by Mutula and others is still in Senate. The Senator’s askari who shot at me was jailed.

“How can Senate miserably fail Kenyans and then blame the presidency and @KenyaGovernors? Several county employees have come to me after their rental premises were padlocked. Senators continue to draw their salaries and sitting allowances. How are they defending devolution?

Governor Kibwana went ahead to dare the Makueni senator to bring on the impeachment motion against him, saying that it will not be the first time he will be doing so.

He argued that he had came across such threats before, and even got a threat that he would be expelled from the Kalonzo Musyoka led Wiper Movement party.

“If Mutula Kilonzo Junior wants to impeach me a second time, he is welcome. I had heard of the impeachment threat and expulsion from @WiperMovement before today,” he posted.

Makueni Governor Kivutha Kibwana has cautioned a Senate committee against being used by malicious people to taint his good reputation.

Kibwana accused the Senate’s watchdog team of accepting documents that are not procedurally correct before the House.

The governor was speaking on Tuesday at the Makueni County Assembly when he appeared before the committee to answer questions over alleged loss of Sh1.4 billion through fraudulent procurement, conflict of interest and money laundering by this administration.

Senators queried the quality of the Auditor-General’s report that gave the Kibwana administration a clean bill of health in the 2017/18 Financial Year report.

“I am beginning to question the rigour and the seriousness the auditors who were sent to Makueni County had. I am beginning to think that is a lazy report,” said committee chair Moses Kajwang’.

2022 succession politics is becoming hotter as more candidates continue throwing themselves in the race, with Makueni Governor Professor Kivutha Kibwana being the latest.

This is after the second term County chief affirmed his interest in the 2022 top most political seat in front of Deputy President Dr William Ruto.

Prof Kibwana was speaking during the Turkana Annual Cultural Festival in Lodwar on Thursday.

Kibwana was responding to a recent story written by one of the popular Newspapers in the country indicating the people who will run for presidency in 2022.

Kibwana faulted the Newspaper for only publishing the faces of six individuals among them DP Ruto and opposition chief Raila Odinga considered to be the main contestants while leaving out him.

Last year, a section of Kenyans took to social media asking Kibwana to consider running for the Presidency in the 2022 general elections.

In a message sent after Madaraka Day celebration, Kivutha had indicated that “Kenya needs a third liberation. A liberation for economic independence, rooting out corruption and development of the grassroots economy.”

Kenyans were quick to respond to the Makueni County boss urging him to offer himself for the post of President in the coming elections.
