Leaders from Western region led by  Bungoma senator Moses Wetangula have called on Cabinet Secretaries who have been criss-crossing the region to provide evidence in the waiver of debts owed to the state by ailing sugar factories.

Wetangula dared Devolution CS Eugine Wamalwa and his agriculture counterpart Peter Munya to produce the documented evidence with the relevant instruments to confirm that Nzoia Sugar company debts have been waived.

“The people of western region are not fools, they know what it means by development and they have seen the bad states of the companies and being told that the debts have been waived without evidence is zero work,” Wetangula said.

His statement was echoed by Dan Wanyama, Webuye West member of the parliament who said that the cabinet has no mandate to waive a debt without the input of the national assembly.

“We are the people who allocate resources, I tried hard to include in the budget but when we approached Munya he declined to factor in Money for the ailing factories and so farmers know the truth. If indeed the president is serious, he should bring a paper in parliament to the committee of agriculture to deal with the issue,” he said

Wanyama said that the parliament must understand the period and how these debts accrued before the decision is made.

“It might be crude creditors who want to pay themselves or the money ending up going to the wrong people. Munya was evasive by talking about the treasury making paper work since he knew the process was not right but came in to give Wamalwa PR to get political mileage,” Wanyama added.

This comes a week after the recent visit of CS Wamalwa and Munya who assured the farmers that the debts that were holding the companies down had been written off to allow the leasing of the companies for it to go back to its normal operation.

They however came in solidarity with the most recent declaration by the president who had ordered that the cabinet secretaries are not allowed to move out of Nairobi after the surge in Covid-19 cases across the country.

Wetangula stated that their meetings have been suspended following the rampant increase of the cases in western region most specifically in Busia County.

Bungoma Senator Moses Wetangula grand entry in Bungoma County went wrong.

The embattled Ford Kenya party leader on Friday June 19, 2020 had a confrontation with members of the security forces after he attempted to hold a political rally in Bungoma County despite the Covid19 safety guidelines issued by the government.

Wetangula made a triumphant entry in the county, in a convoy where he was joined by some of his allies in the region – sparking running battles with police.

They were first teargassed in Kamukuywa and Kimilili towns. Wetang’ula was in the company of Kimili MP Didmus Barasa and a section of Bungoma County MCAs.

His supporters were engaging police officers in running battles with several teargas cannisters having been lobbed at Wetangula’s vehicle.

Wetangula however, managed to force himself into Bungoma town despite the barricades raised by the police. Watch the video below.

President Uhuru Kenyatta led Jubilee party has finally entered into a post-election deal with Kalonzo Musyoka’s Wiper Movement party and Isaac Rutto’s Chama Cha Mashinani (CCM).

The deal between the parties was signed on Wednesday June 17, 2020 at Jubilee Party headquarters in Pangani, along Thika Super Highway, Nairobi.

Wiper and CCM are the latest parties to enter into a post-poll deal with the ruling Jubilee party. This comes after Jubilee party and Kanu signed a coalition agreement.

The agreement saw West Pokot Senator Samuel Poghisio of Kanu being named the Senate Majority Leader.

Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party leader Raila Odinga has been working with President Kenyatta since their March 9, 2018 handshake.

The two are pushing for the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI) which is advocating for constitutional changes.

With Kalonzo and Rutto joining the deal with Jubilee, their NASA counterparts Musalia Mudavadi of the African National Congress (ANC) party and Ford Kenya’s Moses Wetang’ula have been left alone in the coalition that saw Raila raise its flag during the 2017 general polls.

Isaac Rutto who was part of the NASA brigade quit moments after the general elections that saw him lose his Bomet gubernatorial seat to the late Joyce Laboso.

Last month, the Wiper National Executive Council authorised Kalonzo to seal a co-operation agreement with Jubilee and Kanu.

The resolution was reached during a virtual meeting held by more than 50 members under its leader. The members unanimously backed the immediate implementation of the cooperation agreement.

The party NEC added that once the agreement is sealed, it will be signed by party chairman Chirau Ali Mwakwere and secretary general Judith Sijeny.

The party then held a National Delegates Conference to endorse the formation of an agreement.

During the meeting, Kalonzo said that its membership to the National Super Alliance (NASA) will not be altered by the coalition.

Will Wetang’ula and Mudavadi also give in and join their colleagues ahead of 2022 succession politics?

Bungoma Senator Moses Wetangula has launched a fresh onslaught against COTU Secretary General Francis Atwoli.

Speaking during an interview with a local radio station on Monday June 15, Wetang’ula asked Atwoli to “leave politics to politicians”.

He further accused Atwoli of confusing the Luhya nation.

The besieged Ford-Kenya party leader further attacked Atwoli on his mandate in representing workers.

“Atwoli is a failure. He has failed to cushion the Kenyan worker whose salary is deducted to enrich him. Majority of workers, especially in flower farms and industries are suffering. What has he done to help them? Let him stick to his mandate and leave politics to politicians

“Atwoli has no authority to choose any politician as the Mulembe people spokesperson. He is a failure himself. Let him stop chest thumping because nobody appointed him as our patron,” Wetangula stated.

The embattled former Senate Minority Leader further pointed out that he and his ANC counterpart, former Vice President Musalia Mudavadi had not been invited to meetings held at Atwoli’s Kajiado ranch.

Bungomma senator Moses Wetang’ula has been dealt a blow after the Registrar of Political Parties Ann Nderitu on Monday June 8, 2020 formally gazetted his removal as Ford Kenya party leader.

In a special gazette notice dated June 8, 2020, Nderitu gave notice of Wetangula’s ouster and replacement with Kanduyi Member of Parliament Athanas Wafula Wamunyinyi.

Ms. Nderitu also noted that the party’s National Organizing Secretary Chris Mandu Mandu had also been removed and replaced with Josephine Waungu.

Image

She said anybody with any written submission concerning the intended changes by the political party shall within seven days deposit them with the Registrar of Political Parties.

Ford Kenya’s NEC last week resolved to dismiss Wetang’ula as party leader, citing gross misconduct.

The special NEC meeting picked  Wamunyinyi to take over as Party Leader on an interim basis.

Wetangula quickly fired back, accusing the NEC members of holding an illegal meeting.

He further announced the suspension of party Secretary General Simiyu – who had communicated his ouster— and replaced him with Chris Wamalwa in an interim position.

He also stated that his alleged replacement, Wamunyinyi, had been suspended and replaced with Vincent Mogaka as Sectoral Chair for Livestock.

The drama escalated to the Registrar of Political Parties where the two quarrelling factions sought to register a change of party officials.

Bungoma Senator Moses Wetangula has suffered a major blow in a first round of a battle to regain control of Ford Kenya.

On Friday June 5, 2020, the rival faction led by Tongaren MP Eseli Simiyu and Kanduyi’s Wafula Wamunyinyi submitted the documents that the registrar of Political Parties needed to give them control of the party.

They successfully convinced the registrar that they had met the quorum needed for a Ford Kenya NEC to remove Wetangula as Party Leader and have him replaced by Wamunyinyi.

The Simiyu-led group had been asked to filed the proper form PP7 which they submitted on Friday.

Wetangula, on his part, has failed to raise the quorum needed to suspend Dr Eseli from the Secretary General Post and Wamunyinyi from the Party Leader’s seat.

“Our side met the quorum and we have submitted the duly signed form PP7, we are only waiting for the Registrar to seal his (Wetangula) fate,” Simiyu stated.

The Ford Kenya Secretary, however, complained that NEC members were being harassed and is expected to file a police complaint later today.

“Ford Kenya NEC members are being threatened in various ways including physical injury. In fact, once I finish addressing you I am heading to the police station to lodge a complaint,” Dr Eseli said.

Bungoma senator Moses Wetang’ula has fired back after a section of Ford Kenya party members kicked him out of the party, accusing him of gross misconduct.

The Ford Kenya’s NEC on Sunday May 31, 2020 resolved to dismiss Wetang’ula as party leader.

A special NEC meeting was convened, in which Kanduyi MP Wafula Wamunyinyi was picked to take over as party Leader on an interim basis.

Bungoma Governor Wycliffe Wangamati who oversaw the dramatic coup said Ford Kenya has a very low history, arguing that the party has two governors and that they were both in support of the changes.

Earlier, there was chaos as Kwanza MP Ferdinand Wanyonyi was ejected from the meeting.

However, Wetang’ula is his response says that coups are archaic to good order and activities of cowards.

Addressing the press shortly after being kicked out of the party, he said anybody who wants to run for a seat in Ford Kenya must file his/her papers and and meet him at the Bomas during elections.

Wetang’ula says that a grouping calling themselves NEC members of this party airlifted people who are not officials of Ford Kenya party, booked and detained them forcefully overnight and made decisions affecting the party.

He maintained that he was still the Ford Kenya party leader, announcing that the party NEC had resolved to suspend Dr Eseli Simiyu as the party’s secretary general, and his position taken by Kiminini MP Dr Chris Wamalwa.

Wamalwa will be the party’s SG in acting capacity until further notice, according to Wetang’ula. Wamunyinyi was also been fired from his position at the party.

Bungoma Women Representative Catherine Wambilianga has replaced Wamunyinyi as the Bungoma Chairman. She will be deputized by Wafula Wakoli.

Wamunyinyi has also been replaced by Hon.  Millicent MP, for West Mugirango as the sec. of agriculture on NEC.

Richard Onyonka has been retained as the Deputy Party Leader.

Last year, Bungoma County senator Moses Wetang’ula was on spotlight in the wake of the fake gold scandal. The scandal led to the Ford Kenya party leader’s past dirty deals to resurface.

This led to a re-examination of Wetang’ula’s controversial political career online. Ex-Nairobi gubernatorial aspirant Dr Miguna Miguna posted Wetangula’s top five scams. But was that all?

In December 2019, Wetangula warned Bungoma Governor Wycliffe Wangamati over his alleged cartels who had been ‘awarded’ most of the county tenders and contracts.

Wetangula, who spoke to the press at his Kanduyi home in Bungoma town , said the Senate was investigating claims of over Sh100 million fraud in Wangamati’s office.

His claims came amid a looming breakout between Wangamati and his party boss. But what is the genesis of all this?

Well, emerging details have yet again exposed Wetangula’s dirty deals that has led to the fall out with Governor Wangamati.

1)TAX SYSTEM FRAUD

A week after election, Wetang’ula called Governor Wangamati and told him they set a new tax collection system for the County, where every ten shillings collected, 7 bob goes to the County coffers, and 3 bob to a separate account to be managed by Wetang’ula.

This would translate to 30 million on every 100 million collected to be pocketed by Wetang’ula, who claims “this is my Ford Kenya government “. The Bungoma County chief refused.

2)CHOPPER DEMAND

Second demand was to get him a chopper from Russia or Ukraine at 400 million. Governor Wangamati said no.

3)KIBRA BY-ELECTION FRAUD.

After the demise of Ken Okoth, by-elections were called in Kibra, and most political party leaders saw it as an opportunity to flex their muscles. Wetang’ula couldn’t be left out.

Everyone knew the Ford Kenya candidate was a non starter. But the party leader demanded funding for his candidate from the County government. The Governor and his ministers had to fund raise from personal pockets.

  • CECs 600k
  • Bungoma Majority leader 100k
  • DG Trans Nzoia County 50k
  • MCAs Trans Nzoia 500k
  • Kakamega Governor Wycliffe Oparanya 500k
  • Ford Kenya MCAs 300k
  • Governor Wangamati 1.8m

All these moneys went directly to the party leaders pocket. How many votes did he garner? 200 votes in an election that had 600 party agents in Polling Stations.

4)DEMAND FOR A NEW PRADO

Wetang’ula is said to have sent MPs, MCAs, CECs and even religious leaders to talk to the Governor to buy him a PRADO befitting his status as party leader. It is public knowledge.

When finally the Governor gave in after religious leaders insistence, he uses his attack dogs to claim he was being bribed. All the above mentioned leaders can bear witness that Wetang’ula has send them on several occasions to demand for a PRADO.

5)2MILLION PER MONTH FROM THE GOVERNOR.

Wetang’ula has always told the Governor that he facilitates his political activities to a tune of Ksh 2 million per month. The Governor has been giving him once in a while but not monthly as demanded because the Governors net salary is 950k only.

Last Sunday, he was given the money in pretence that he is going to call a party officials meeting and stop unnecessary wrangles in the County Assembly. He then used the same money to ouster his Majority leader.

Apart from the above long standing demands, he now hates Governor Wangamati with a passion just because he was picked as the Western Coordinator of BBI instead of him.

President Uhuru Kenyatta could not trust him because he was visiting State House during the day, and Sugoi to pick brown envelopes during the night.

Now he blames his Governor for being trusted by the President instead of him, and hence the current wars.

Westlands MP Tim Wanyonyi has been taken into quarantine.

This happened shortly after the burial of his brother Tony Waswa Wetang’ula, on Wednesday May 20, 2020.

Tony was laid to rest like a Covid-19 victim, with Bungoma Health Workers taking control of the body from the time it arrived at his rural home in Mukhweya village, Kabuchai Constituency in Bungoma County, to the time it was interred.

Image

The Health workers fumigated the coffin, and immediately took it by the graveside after offloading it from the helicopter that was carrying it.

Tony was interred in a ceremony that lasted almost an hour, with five priests presiding over the ceremony.

Image

Residents were forced to watch the event from a distance, since only about 60 people were allowed to attend, most of them being close relatives.

Until his death, Tony was Tim Wanyonyi’s personal aide. He is the one who took him to Aga Khan hospital, where he succumbed while undergoing treatment.

Reports indicated that Tony showed fever signs before being rushed to hospital.

A post shared on social media by blogger Robert Alai intimates that Tim Wanyonyi was taken to Quarantine in a chopper that had carried the body.

However, Health CS Mutahi Kagwe has said that the government is yet to establish whether Tony, who is also Moses Wetangula’s brother died of Covid-19.

Addressing journalists during the daily Covid-19 briefings on Wednesday May 20, Kagwe said that he could not ascertain until contact tracing was done, highly suggesting that Waswa could have died of Covid-19.

“We cannot respond to that question until we have done the contact tracing [to establish whether Waswa’s contact persons were exposed to coronavirus or not], and indeed certified that what you are saying [that Tony Waswa died of coronavirus] is correct,” said CS Kagwe.

Bungoma senator Moses Wetang’ula and Westlands MP Timothy Wanyonyi’s brother Tony Waswa was on Wednesday 20, 2020 laid to rest in their rural home in Sirisia Constituency, Bungoma County.

The late was however, accorded a Covid-19-like burial.

Image

Tony passed on while undergoing treatment at the Agha Khan Hospital in Nairobi last Friday. Villagers and other residents of Sirisia have been forced to crane their necks over fence to catch the burial ceremony.

Image

At least five priests led the ceremony that lasted for less than an hour as the family observed coronavirus health guidelines, with officials from the Ministry of Health Handling the body from the moment it arrived by a helicopter, to the time of interment.

Away from the graveside where the men of God said prayers before his remains could be lowered, sat four staffs from the Health Ministry’s COVID-19 response team. The four donned overflowing white personal protective gears that only left faces uncovered.

Kenyans on social media are now questioning whether the late died of Covid-19, following the way he was buried.

Until his death, the late was an aide to Wanyonyi who has been an lawmaker at the National Assembly since 2013.

Health Cabinet Secretary Sicily Kariuki was at pains to explain why her docket delivered medical equipments worth Sh63 billion to 30 health facilities in 27 counties and yet they are not being used.

Appearing before the Senate Ad Hoc Committee on Medical Leasing Equipment on Tuesday, nominated Senator Mary Seneta was the first to question Ms Kariuki, demanding to know why some counties were still paying for the maintenance of the equipment.

“What was the hurry for purchasing these equipment if they cannot be commissioned? MES is not working,” Ms Seneta said.

Kariuki defended the purchase of the equipment, saying not all of them were idle because of lack of personnel.

“I want to tell the committee that the equipment were not dumped in the counties. What I know is that for the discussions on how the counties will adopt the equipment… each county gave its own demands,” said Kariuki.

She added that the digital general X-ray had been installed in the hospitals, ready for use.The problem is some of the hospitals do not have adequate electricity.

“Other equipment like mammography, ultrasound and OPG are also ready to offer services,” Kariuki said.

Nominated Senator Judith Pareno, however, faulted Kariuki’s explanation, insisting that counties were never consulted when the MES agreement was mooted.

Ms Pareno said in some cases, three CT scans would be delivered to the county hospitals through the programme, despite county governments having already purchased a CT scan.

“The equipment are idle because counties had already purchased others earlier,” said Pareno.

“What I understand from this issue is that some people won tenders through MES and decided to dump them in county hospitals. The ministry was just reckless to allow this.”

Committee chairperson Fatuma Dullo also sought to know from the CS whether her ministry had made any interventions to ensure the equipment were functional.

“This is ridiculous. You mean after three years these equipment are still idle? You must have surely done something to fix the electricity if that was the problem,” said Ms Dullo.

On the issue of personnel, Bungoma Senator Moses Wetang’ula wondered what kind of consultation happened between the ministry and the county governments when the equipment were delivered.

He said if there was proper consultation, the machines would not have been delivered without having at least one qualified staff to operate them.

“Who did you consult in the counties?” Mr Wetang’ula posed, then added: “That notwithstanding, you did not tell counties to first train their own personnel before you handed the machines to them. You went ahead and dumped the equipment in the various county hospitals in counties.”

The committee also learned that although the Council of Governors (CoG) had complained that it was not consulted when the contracts to purchase the machines were floated, some governors still went ahead to accept them.

Last week, when CoG chairman Wycliffe Oparanya appeared before the committee, he said governors were not consulted and that the equipment were just dumped in the hospitals.

According to the documents tabled in the Senate, several governors, among them Oparanya, Ferdinand Waititu (Kiambu), Granton Samboja (Taita Taveta), Ali Roba (Mandera), Kiraitu Murungi (Meru) and Francis Kimemia (Nyandarua), accepted the machines.

In a letter dated March 20, 2018, and seen by The Standard, Oparanya requested Deputy President William Ruto to consider Kakamega County Teaching and Referral Hospital (KCTRH) as one of the recipients of the MES programme machines.

“Looking at the success of the implementation of the MES programme rolled out by the National Government in all the counties, it is our desire to request the inclusion of the KCTRH in the MES programme,” reads the letter.

In Nyandarua, Mr Kimemia wrote to the ministry on September 6, 2017, requesting it to expand the MES programme to other facilities within the county. In Meru, Mr Murungi sought the installation of an ICU facility in Meru Hospital.

Nasa principals Kalonzo Musyoka, Musalia Mudavadi and Moses Wetang’ula have been dealt a blow in their push for a piece of ODM’s Sh6.2 billion cash from the exchequer.

In what could spell doom for the already moribund opposition coalition, Kalonzo’s Wiper, Mudavadi’s ANC and Wetang’ula’s Ford Kenya will miss out on the cash.

Registrar of Political Parties Anne Nderitu has declared that the Raila Odinga – led party is not under any obligation to share its political parties cash with coalition partners.

The registrar explained that the coalition agreement deposited with her office does not provide for the sharing of funds.

“Ordinarily, when dealing with coalitions we go by what the parties agreed in the MoU. If that MoU gives a formula of sharing of funds, then we go with that. But if it does not, then we go by the [Political Parties] Act,” she said.

“In this particular case, the MoU did not stipulate such a formula and therefore we cannot enforce the sharing of the funds. We go by what the Act provides.”

Nderitu was responding to Mavoko MP Patrick Makau of Wiper who sought her intervention to compel the ODM Party to share the monies with other coalition partners.

“There were some rumours that ODM recently received Sh6.4 billion. Is there a way you can intervene to ensure the parties in the coalition get the money?” the MP asked the registrar who appeared before the National Assembly Public Accounts Committee to respond to 2016-17 audit queries raised by Auditor General.

The issue of sharing the money has been emotive and is threatening to sound the death knell for the once vibrant opposition coalition.

Wiper, Ford Kenya and ANC have accused ODM of bulldozing them and pocketing the millions it receives from the National Treasury.

In its financial statement published in the dailies on Monday, ODM indicated its expecting Sh6.2 billion from the National Treasury.

This is money that has accrued over the years including Sh4 billion that was awarded by the Court of Appeal after a protracted legal battle with the Jubilee administration.

With the handshake, there is little chance the government will appeal the ruling giving ODM’s a war chest as the 2022 polls beckon.

The Political Parties Act, 2011, which established the Political Parties Fund, dictates that not less than 0.3 per cent of the last audited account should be allocated to political parties.

Currently, the money is shared between ODM and the ruling Jubilee Party.

“In this particular case, the MoU did not stipulate such a formula and therefore we cannot enforce the sharing of the funds. We go by what the Act provides,” Anne Nderitu

Some 15 per cent of the fund goes to the registrar’s office for administrative purposes.

The fund is based on the number of seats a party wins and votes cast for the party’s candidates.

Statistics obtained by the Star show that Jubilee has received the highest amount – Sh816.05 million – since 2017 by virtue of the number of elective seats it won in the last elections.

In 2017-18, it got Sh240.37 million, followed by  Sh434.64 million in 2018-19.

In the current financial year, the ruling party is entitled to 564.16 million. However, it has so far received only Sh141.04 million

ODM has received Sh381.09 million since 2017.

In 2017-18 it got Sh112.25 million and Sh202.98 million in the following financial year.

In this financial year, the party has so far received Sh65.86 million out of Sh263 million is it was allocated.

In June, the orange party was awarded Sh4.1 billion by the Court of Appeal after a long battle.

In the landmark ruling by a three judge bench, the court directed Parliament to allocate ODM the money backdated to November 1, 2011.

ODM moved to court, demanding that it should be paid the arrears which had accrued over four financial years between 2011 and 2016.

Yesterday, the registrar said her office has not received the money.

“The judge awarded Sh4.1 billion but i think they might have claimed more because of the accruals. But what we know is Sh4.1 billion,” Nderitu said.

Yesterday, ODM Secretary General Edwin Sifuna attacked the Nasa affiliate parties and reiterated that the party will not share the money with them.

According to Sifuna, the partners have betrayed, back-stabbed and disrespected ODM and insisted that the coalition should be dissolved.

“When Mudavadi comes from US, he should be the first person to sign the dissolution agreement and forward it to Wetang’ula and then to us so that we can formally disengage. We are no longer in coalition. We are not friends. Why should we pretend?” he said.

“Even a girlfriend or slay queen must take care of the boyfriend for her to be given money for rent. You cannot abuse a sponsor and you still want his money. These people refused to come for swearing in, today [yesterday] Musalia attacked the handshake and they are fielding a candidate in Kibra. Are those people you can give your money?” Sifuna posed.

But Wiper Party executive director Jared Siso and ANC secretary general Barack Muluka tore into the registrar and the orange party for attempting to collude to deny their parties their rightful share of the funds.

Siso and Muluka claimed that the MoU provides for sharing of the cash and threatened to move to court to force the registrar, the National Treasury and ODM to share the money with them.

“She just hasn’t read the MoU. I think it is a big embarrassment that she has not read the MoU. If she hasn’t, her officers should have read it for her,” Muluka said.

Siso said that his party will explore avenues including dialogue and going to court to get the cash.

“We still believe there is room for dialogue although our patience is slowly fading. We will exploit all possibilities and divorce will be the last,” he said.

According to Siso, the MoU provided for the sharing of the funds among the four parties but the exact formula was to be developed by the co-chairs of the coalition.

“ODM is using a different clause that states that upon winning election, the co-chairs of the coalition will sit down and design a formula of how the money should be shared. The formula is not yet out because we appear to be reading from different scripts,” he said.

In June, attempts by the registrar to mediate the parties to agree on a formula of sharing the monies flopped after ODM remained adamant. The parties have also been negotiating to agree on a formula.

Wiper, ANC and Ford Kenya have claimed that they contributed towards the campaigns of the coalition’s presidential candidate – Raila – in both 2013 and 2017 and should therefore get the political parties funds.

Bungoma County senator Moses Wetangula on Friday morning found himself in a hard tussle with Kenyans on Twitter after he issued his piece of advice on KCB’s move to put Mumias Sugar Company under receivership.

Ponangipalli Venkata Ramana Rao, who KCB appointed as the receiver-manager on September 20, arrived at the company premises around 3.30 pm on Tuesday escorted by police officers from Mumias Police Station ready to take control of the struggling factory.

Rao then went to the administration block and issued managers with his notice of appointment from KCB.

The move has attracted mixed reactions from a section of leaders, with Wetangula taking to his twitter account to give his comments.

He said allowing Mumias to go under receivership is a terrible mistake, arguing that receiverships have never saved any enterprise.

Wetangula further noted that he was going to bring together key leaders from the region to respond.

“Allowing mumias to go under receivership a terrible mistake. Recieverships have never saved any enterprise. With Gov holding substantial interests in kcb & msc the move on mumias is sinister. I will bring together key leaders from our region to respond,” reads his post.

But Kenyans on Twitter did not take any of his advice, going ahead to tell him off the matter.

Some argued that the same leaders from the region are the ones who sat and watched Mumias being mismanaged.

Some told him to kindly give other alternatives too as he responds, arguing that they can’t just say it won’t work without giving other sustainable solutions to the problem.

Vote-rich western Kenya region has yet again fallen apart despite numerous calls by region’s leaders for long desired luhyia unity.

This follows failure of two political front runners from the region, Ford Kenya leader Moses Wetang’ula and Amani National Congress (ANC) boss Musalia Mudavadi, to front one candidate for the Kibra by-election after numerous meetings between the two parties initially agreed to back one candidate.

After Mudavadi’s ANC unveiling former ODM leader Raila Odinga’s aide Eliud Owalo ahead of the upcoming Kibra mini polls, Wetangula went ahead to unveil Engineer Khamisi Butichi to fly Ford Kenya’s flag in Kibra.

In addition, ANC has declared that its leader, Mr Mudavadi, who last year was installed as the Luhya kingpin, does not need any endorsement from any particular leader from the region to vie for the presidency in 2022.

In recent past, the region’s political leaders have been sharply divided along two camps; those supporting Deputy President William Ruto and those backing Mudavadi’s presidential ambitions.

There are those also those who have thrown their support behind the Raila.

DP Ruto has been making numerous trips to the region to sway voters towards his support ahead of 2022 President Uhuru Kenyatta succession race.

Ruto through his trips has been able to win support from a section of leaders who are now working hard to sway voters towards his camp.

The DP is now banking on National Assembly chief whip Ben Washiali, former Kakamega senator Boni Khalwale, former sports cabinet secretary Rashid Echesa, Matungu MP Justus Murunga, Kimilili MP Didmus Barasa, Sirisia MP John Waluke, Webuye East MP Dan Wanyama, Senate Speaker Ken Lusaka among others.

The Ruto camp has also been calling on Mudavadi to shelve his ambitions and team up with the DP.

Reports that close friends of Devolution Cabinet Secretary Eugene Wamalwa have formed a new political party complicates matters even further.

The new outfit, Democratic Action Party of Kenya, received a provisional certificate on August 2 from the Registrar of Political Parties.

The new outfit has David Muchele as interim chairman while Kizito Temba, Wamalwa’s personal assistant, is the secretary. Wamalwa is yet to confirm or deny links to the party, which adds to numerous others in the region.

With all these confusion in Western region over who to support, DP Ruto can easily sail through and win the hearts of the voters ahead of 2022 race.

The much anticipated Kibra parliamentary race is becoming hotter and hotter as almost all major parties are now joining the race.

The Moses Wetang’ula-led Ford Kenya, the lion party has now joined the race.

According to the Bungoma Senator, the party will consider a dynamic, young, professional, Kibra-born, grassroots operator who will carry on with the dynamic legacy left by Hon Ken Okoth.

Wetangula further disclosed that Ford Kenya is no stranger to the great people of Kibra.

He says Rt Hon Raila Odinga went to parliament for the first time in 1993 on Ford Kenya party.

So far, Raila’s ODM party, Musalia Mudavadi’s ANC party and President Uhuru Kenyatta-led Jubilee party are already in the race with ODM planning to hold its nominations on September 7.
