NaxVegas Club owner

Police officer suspected of shooting and killing the owner of NaxVegas club, Laura Kwisira and a bar maid, Ann Maina in Nakuru over a Sh16,000 bill will face two counts of murder charges, Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) has said.

Police Constable Nicholas Musau attached to Nakuru Central Police Station on the night of December 12, 2023, shot four people at the club, among them two bouncers.

He was then arrested and presented into court two days later on a miscellaneous application, but had not yet been charged.

The Independent Policing Oversight Authority (IPOA) took over the matter from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations on December 22 last year and realised that there were gaps in the police file.

However, the ODPP has issued a statement confirming that the officer will face two counts of murder.

In a statement posted via social media accounts, the ODPP says IPOA had submitted an inquiry file and having reviewed it, it was satisfied that there is sufficient evidence to sustain a charge of murder.

Football fans in Bungoma had a reason to celebrate over the weekend after a team from local betting firm Triple5bet pitched camp in the town, located in Western Kenya.

Triple5bet awarded full kits to two football teams in Bungoma, one of the hotspots for local football talent in Kenya.

Ask any upcoming footballer about the challenges they face in their careers, and the answer is almost unanimous – lack of kits.

Triple5bet understands these challenges and that is why they came up with their Ng’arisha Team, a mega project which will see the firm award kits to hundreds of grassroot football clubs.

The Ng’arisha Team Project has already seen the firm award teams from underprivileged areas in Nairobi like Kibera, Githurai and Eastlands.

Teams from Kisumu, Kakamega, Eldoret, Machakos, Nakuru and Thika have also benefited from the Ng’arisha Team Project. The Triple5bet management says they intend to traverse the whole country and reach the remotest of teams with these projects.

“This is just the beginning; we have so much more in store for our local teams” a senior manager at the firm said, adding that the initial plan is to kit two teams from every area before they expand.

Though a new entrant in the Kenyan betting industry, Triple5bet have set themselves apart from their peers with very ambitious society building projects.

The firm also has mouthwatering bonuses for both new and existing customers. New customers get 100% bonus on their first deposit.

All you have to do is to open a new account at triple5bet.com, deposit and stake any amount from Ksh 50 to Ksh 5000 and claim your 100%.

All existing customers also get a 50% bonus on their first stake of the day. These guys really know how to take care of their customers.

An electrician involved in a legal battle with a flower firm in Naivasha wants it ordered to pay him Ksh 9 million for unfair dismissal.

David Njite filed a suit at the Employment and Labor Relations Court in Nakuru and claims that he was employed by Rainforest Farmlands on permanent and pensionable basis in September 2014.

However, he claims he was sacked on April when he returned to work after two weeks of isolation after contracting Covid-19.

The company in defense said that in a disciplinary meeting held on April 6, 2021, and attended by Human Resource Manager, General Manager, Regional Technical Representative and Njite; it said that it had satisfactorily proven issues of laxity and negligence agaisnt him.

Reports say that the electrician was accused of failing to maintain an electric fence to the required standards, failing to reconcile electrical items sent for repairs, delaying to recover items from repair suppliers among others.

A letter signed by General Manager Camilo Serrano showed that Njite was ordered to vacate the staff quarters within 14 days. Njite, however, claims that the reasons for termination of his employment were outside his job description

“In April 2021, the claimant fell sick, and upon tests, it was confirmed that he had contracted Covid-19. That meant he would isolate from work. Upon getting back to work, he was issued with a termination letter,” read a part of the petition .

Njite accuses the Regional Technical Representative of convincing the General Manager to terminate his employment and that the reason for termination was baseless.

Njite said that a plot to terminate his employment started when he was issued a memo on March 14. It directed him to return all company tools to their store, and he complied.

He added that as he was returning the tools, the Regional Representative, without notice, searched his office and collected some machines, terming them tools not returned.

The firm denied allegations raised against it and claimed the termination of Njite’s employment was fair and based on valid grounds. ” The claimant’s (Njite) sit as pleaded is misconceived and should be dismissed with cost to the respondent (flower company).” read the response.

The company claims Njite, during his employment, was given a laptop and its bag, which he did not return upon dismissal.

It further claims that Njite is liable to it for damages of Sh 100,572 for the laptop, the bag, a wireless mouse, and foregone rent of Sh 60,000 for the period he had been in illegal occupation of cottage since April. The case will be mentioned on October 19.

Police in Nakuru East have arrested the county’s former deputy mayor, Joseph Munyiri, on allegations of causing grievous bodily harm to his wife, Joyce Wangui.

The couple’s fight started after Munyiri, 36, on Monday afternoon (April 27) allegedly went to his spouse’s electronics shop in Menengai Ward, Nakuru East and sold a 32-inch TV set to his friend at Ksh2, 000 without his wife’s knowledge or approval.

Munyiri is also said to have failed to record the sale of the TV set in the sales record-keeping book, prompting his wife, 36, to ask him why he hadn’t registered the transaction.

Later Monday evening, when Munyiri and his partner returned home, the ex-deputy mayor is said to have descended on Wangui with kicks and blows, causing her dental trauma and grievous injuries to the face and ears.

The suspect is alleged to have been angered after his partner “challenged his authority as the head of the family in front of his friends”.

Wangui, who has sought treatment at Nakuru Mediheal Hospital, told police that it wasn’t the first time her spouse was meting out violence on her.

“He has anger problems. While beating me up yesterday (Monday, April 27), he threatened he would kill me. He even followed me to hospital as I went to seek treatment,” said Wangui.

“He often brags that he is the man of the house, whose authority shouldn’t be questioned by his wife. He often says he has a right to sell anything at my shop without seeking my consent,” said Wangui.

The two have been married for nearly 20 years, and have seven children together.

Munyiri is being held at a Menengai police station.

“I urge the Government to ensure I get justice,” said Wangui.

The former deputy mayor vied for Menengai Ward Jubilee Party ticket in the run-up to 2017 general election, but lost.

Ever since, he has been eking a living out of selling second-hand clothes in Nakuru Town.

A report by the Kenya Demographic and Health Survey (KDHS) shows that 85 per cent of domestic violence victims in the world are women.

In Kenya, 40 per cent of all married women have been abused at one point or another in their relationship, a figure that is higher than the global average of 30 per cent.

A new Survey has found that most farmers use local brew busaa to treat Foot and Mouth Disease (FMD) among animals.

The highly communicable viral disease attack hooved animals such as cattle, sheep, goats, pigs as well wild animals such as buffaloes.

The survey was conducted by the Nakuru Regional Veterinary Investigation Laboratory (RVIL) in collaboration with the county veterinary staff.

According to the survey, a majority of the farmers whose animals were affected by the disease drenched them with local brew (busaa) as the treatment of choice.

Busaa is about 4 per cent alcohol, a concentration which is very mild as compared to surgical spirit, which is 70 per cent alcohol, so its medical value in killing the FMD virus is questionable.

The brew normally makes the animal drunk, thus reducing the pain in the foot and mouth wounds. The animal is therefore able to feed, thus boosting its immunity and recovery, but farmers should seek proper treatment.

A word of caution, however, is that the brew is stable for one to two days after production. Thereafter, acidification and denaturing take place, making the substance toxic.

Some farmers buy busaa that lasts for over five days, which implies that they could be poisoning the animals unintentionally and this explains the deaths that were occurring in adults, a rare condition as FMD is known to kill mostly young animals.

The first-year student, who is currently admitted to Nakuru Level Five Hospital is said to have been accosted by three men at about 3 am in her on-campus hostel room.

According to K24 Digital, three men armed with knives, broke into the girls’ hostel and went straight to the victim’s room where they tied the student to her bed.

It is alleged that the attackers knew her by name, with eyewitnesses claiming that they also knew she would be alone in her cubicle on Sunday.

“The attackers knew the victim by name even where she slept and that she was alone in the room, however, she has been out of the school compound since Friday and only arrived at the hostel Sunday evening,” a close friend narrated.

He said he was informed of the incident via phone by the hostel matron on Monday morning.

The school management acknowledged the incident and said they had reported to the police for further action.

Confirming the incident, Nakuru Town East Police Commander Ellena Kabukuru said police have launched investigations, assuring students and parents the culprits will be caught and charged.

Mourners who had turned up for the burial of an 88-year-old man in Sachangwan Village in Molo, Nakuru County were shocked Friday mid-morning, when they were informed that the deceased had already been interred at 2am.

It is said Joseph Kiama had left a dying wish to his family, saying he should be buried at 2am, and that his body should not be taken to the morgue.

Kiama also instructed that his remains should not be buried in a coffin, but wrapped in a blanket and put on a mattress, which would be lowered into his grave.

The deceased also left an order that he be buried next to Molo River, and that mourners shouldn’t shed a tear throughout the period of grief.

Kabiang’a Location chief Joel Chepkwony who spoke to a local daily said that Kiama’s family had informed him of the planned rituals.

“They said they would have to observe Kiama’s wishes lest they attract curses,” said the local administrator.

Outsiders were denied access to the event only attended by the family who remained tight-lipped on the process.

The late Kiama had also instructed the family not to incur any expenses in feeding mourners at the burial.

A section of Inua Mama women group comprised of leaders affiliated to deputy president Dr William Ruto’s tanga tanga wing on Friday held a rally in Nakuru.

During the rally, controversial Nakuru Town East MP David Gikaria paraded two of his three wives at a rally organised by area Senator Susan Kihika.

The rally, which was held at the Nakuru ASK Showground, brought together the area MP, several women leaders affiliated to DP Ruto’s camp within the Jubilee outfit.

Taking to the stage, the lawmaker said: “I am the Nakuru Town East MP. And, when one has a wife or wives, he has to acknowledge. I have several Nakuru Town East first ladies. Let me introduce my first ladies to you.”

“[Tells his wives] rush here, remember it is not your day. So, let’s not take other people’s time. There is one [of my wives] who is not here… She did that… [suggests wife welcomed a baby recently]. Niko sawa ama siko sawa? Inaitwa pekejeng pekejeng pekejeng,” said Gikaria, sparking laughter among the rally attendees.

“This one is Veronica Wairimu, she is the First Lady Number One. And this one is Dorcas Wangui, she is also the First Lady Number One B. First Lady Number One C is not here, but I will bring her here another day. Niko sawa, ama siko sawa? Na, unajua sisaidiangwi (And, you know I am never helped) … Let them bear me witness, I am never helped. I am good at it,” said the MP before handing back the microphone to the event’s emcee.

Some of the women leaders who attended the “Inua Mama” rally in Nakuru are nominated senator Millicent Omanga, Uasin Gishu woman rep Gladys Shollei, her Bomet counterpart Joyce Korir and Nyandarua colleague Faith Gitau, among others.

Susan Kihika said the theme of the meeting was women and youth empowerment.
