Mixed Reactions As Sabina Chege, Jubilee MPs Attend Ruto’s Kenya Kwanza PG At State House

Jubilee Party nominated MP and the embattled National Assembly deputy minority whip Sabina Chege on Tuesday, May 23, 2023 attended Kenya Kwanza’s Parliamentary Group meeting that was held at State House, Nairobi.

A Jubilee Party rebel faction led by EALA MP Kanini Kega had earlier on named Sabina Chege as party leader, ousting Former President Uhuru Kenyatta.

However, a bid to re-establish party discipline and strengthen its ranks, the Jubilee Party on Monday expelled several party rebels, including Sabina Chege, Kanini Kega and Nelson Dzuya.

The Jubilee NDC held at Ngong Race Course gave the former President an opportunity to stamp his authority in the party amid an onslaught by Ms Chege and a faction led by Mr Kega.

The duo teamed up with a section of Jubilee-elected legislators to kick Uhuru off party leadership alongside Secretary General Jeremiah Kioni, Vice chairman David Murathe and National Treasurer Kagwe Gichohi.

Kega would later issue a statement saying that the NDC convened by Uhuru was not recognized by the party and that the changes made would not have any impact.

However, Sabina Chege attended the Kenya Kwanza PG that was hosted by President William Ruto at State House on Tuesday.

The former Murang’a Woman Representative had over the weekend told President Ruto that they are orphans in Jubilee.

Speaking during an interdenominational church service at Isiolo Boys High School on Sunday, May 21, 2023, Ms Chege said the former President had neglected them.

At the same time, Chege pleaded with President Ruto, a former member of the Jubilee party, to accommodate Jubilee leaders when they knock on his door.

Eldas MP Adan Keynan who was elected on a Jubilee ticket was also among the rebel members that attended the Kenya Kwanza PG.

Kanini Kega and Kamkunji MP Yusuf Hassan, a Jubilee MP, also attended the State House meeting.

Her attendance has elicited mixed reactions on the internet considering the fact that she has been fighting for her position as the Azimio deputy minority whip.

Azimio la Umoja-One Kenya coalition party had resolved to kick her out of the position, but she survived after the National Assmbly speaker Moses Wetangula announced that she would retain her position until such a time when Azimio will convene a proper meeting and communicate her dismissal.

ODM’s Etale Explains How Ruto Forced Raila To Arrive Late At Mukami Kimathi’s Burial

President William Ruto forced Azimio leader Raila Odinga to arrive late at the burial of the late Mukami Kimathi in Njambini, Nyandarua County over the weekend, ODM communications director Philip Etale has revealed.

Etale who was responding to attacks launched against the former Prime Minister on social media for going against the protocol to arrive at a function when everyone including the head of state has already settled down said it was a situation caused by President Ruto that forced Raila to arrive late.

According to Etale, Raila’s chopper that was supposed to fly him to Nyandarua was ready for takeoff from Wilson Airport by 9:45am.

However, a communication was made to the pilot that Harambee One that was flying President Ruto to the same venue was taking off and that he had to wait.

The ODM communication boss was responding to President Ruto’s chairperson of the President’s Council of Economic Advisors (CEA) David Ndii who had termed Raila’s action as juvenile.

Ndii had earlier on quoted lawyer Miguna Miguna’s remark which had termed Raila’s arrival as childish, noting that etiquette requires Raila to arrive at public functions on time.

“ETIQUETTE requires conman @RailaOdinga to arrive at public functions on time. Routinely arriving late after everyone has taken their seats is a childish and primitive trick to be noticed,” Miguna Miguna posted.

Otiende Amollo Alleges Assassination Plot, Reveals Details of Blue Subaru Giving Him Sleepless Nights

Rarieda Member of Parliament Otiende Amollo has taken to his official social media accounts to allege that there is a plan to assassinate him.

The senior counsel through his Twitter account Wednesday morning claimed that police officers operating from Kabete Police Station have been tasked to eliminate him.

According to the lawmaker who is part of the Azimio la Umoja-One Kenya Coalition party team that is supposed to engage in bipartisan talks with the ruling Kenya Kwanza coalition team, the alleged operatives are using a blue Subaru.

The alleged Subaru bears KBZ 373X as Registration details but the same, Otiende says, does not reflect at the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA).

He went ahead to allege that his security has been withdrawn for the same purpose, but affirmed that he was not afraid.

“So They’ve Tasked Shadowy Operatives In M/V KBZ 373 X Blue Subaru To Eliminate Me! A Vehicle On The Road But No Records At NTSA, But Operates From Kabete Police Station! And They Withdraw My Security For The Purpose! Well, I’m Not Afraid. History Is Replete With Martyrs,” he tweeted.

On Tuesday, May 2, 2023, the opposition leaders among them the Azimio la Umoja-One Kenya coalition party leader Raila Odinga had their security withdrawn.

This is after the opposition’s planned protests in Nairobi flopped, with Raila and his team accusing the President William Ruto-led government of hiring goons to destroy property and blame it on the opposition.

Addressing the media from the Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Foundation offices in Upper Hill, Narc Kenya party leader Martha Karua fingered Trade CS Moses Kuria and Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua for the chaos witnessed.

A public service vehicle was torched along Ngong Road by unknown people. Another truck was torched along the Southern bypass with goons disguising as protesters.

Pastor Paul Mackenzie: President Ruto Breaks His Silence, Likens Him To A Terrorist

President William Ruto has finally broken his silence on controversial Pastor Paul Mackenzie’s cult-like church that has left many Kenyans dead in Shakahola village, Kilifi County.

39 bodies have so far been exhumed and several other Kenyans rescued after they followed the pastor’s advice of fasting until they die with hopes of meeting their creator.

As at Sunday evening, the number of those dead from fasting had hit 47 as 8 bodies had earlier been found before being buried. The number is expected to go up since there are still many other graves that have not been dug up.

The head of state who was speaking on Monday during the prison officers’ cadet pass-out parade in Kiambu County termed the controversial pastor as a terrorist who does not belong to any religion.

According to President Ruto, Pastor Mackenzie, just like any other terrorist, belongs to prison.

“People like Paul Mackenzie of the Shakahola cult and any other terrorists, do not belong to any religion. They belong in prison,” said President Ruto.

President Ruto’s statement comes just a day after Interior Cabinet Secretary Prof Kithure Kindiki condemned the killing of at least 39 people in a shocking religious cult ran by Mackenzie.

In a statement on Sunday, April 23, CS Kindiki termed the deaths as an abuse of freedom of worship and called for tougher measures to regulate religious activities in the country going forward, including self-regulation of the organisations.

According to Kindiki, punishing persons linked to the cult that forces their followers to fast to death is not enough.

He promised to visit the area on Tuesday even as he directed reinforcement of security in the 800-acre forest that has now been declared a crime scene.

“Wawache Kunisumbua na Sufuria Kwa Kichwa,” Ruto Bows To Azimio Pressure, To Lower Unga Prices From Next Week

President William Ruto has said the prices of maize flour will start going down from next week.

Speaking in Mavoko Friday, April 14, the head of state said the consignment of imported maize will arrive in the country from Saturday, April 15.

President Ruto was addressing Mavoko residents in Machakos County after launching a water project.

Ruto launched the  Sh2.7 billion Mavoko Water Supply Project.

The project is in line with the commitment to the provision of universal clean and safe water.

The water project by Belgium and Kenyan governments is expected to supplement the current rationed water supply with 12,000 cubic metres per day supply.

He noted that his government was working around the clock to ensure that the cost of living comes down.

While making a reference to the nationwide protests called by the Azimio la Umoja-One Kenya coalition party, Ruto said walking with sufurias on the heads will not bring down the cost of Unga.

“Nyinyi watu wa Mavoko niwaulize…kutembea na sufuria kwa kichwa itashukisha bei ya unga? Tumeweka mipango kama serikali…na kuanzia mwisho wa hii wiki ambayo ni kesho..ile mahindi tumeagiza itaanza kufika na kuanzia next week mtaona bei ya Unga ikianza kuteremka..Hawa jamaa wawache kunisumbua na sufuria kwa kichwa,” he said.

The opposition leader Raila Odinga had on Thursday, April 13 announced that they will resume the protests after the Muslim faithful end Ramadan.

Ramadan is set to end on April 22, 2023.

Raila said the protests will go on even as the bipartisan dialogue between the government and the opposition continues in parliament.

The Raila-led coalition had earlier on cited lack of seriousness from the Kenya Kwanza ruling side in the said bipartisan talks.

President Ruto had urged Odinga to call off the protests and allow the two sides to face a bipartisan approach in the issues raised by the opposition.

Raila had indicated that bringing down the cost of living is one of their bare minimum.

He wants the IEBC servers opened, the IEBC selection reconstituted, former commissioners who resigned after the August 2022 election reinstated among other issues.

Ruto, DP Gachagua Meet 32 Jubilee Mps at State House Hours After Raiding ODM

President William Ruto and his deputy Rigathi Gachagua Wednesday morning held a meeting with 32 Mps from Jubilee Party at State House, Nairobi.

Reports indicate that the meeting that kicked off at 8am has been attended by Jubilee members from both the National Assembly and Senate.

The Jubilee MPs have committed to work with the government.

Speaking during the meeting, President Ruto said his government was ready to work with anyone despite the political divide.

Ruto told the MPs that they were a family as they all were elected by Kenyans.

The notable politicians who met the president included Nominated MPs Sabina Chege, Margaret Kamar, MPs Yusuf Hassan (Kamukunji) and Adan Keynan (Eldas). 

The meeting comes hours after the head of state met a section of Raila Odinga’s ODM MPs on Tuesday.

Among them were Phelix Odiwour – Jalang’o – (Lang’ata), Mark Nyamita (Uriri), Tom Ojienda (Kisumu), Shakeel Shabir (Independent – Kisumu Town East) and Caroli Omondi (Suba South), Elisha Odhiambo (Gem), Gideon Ochanda (Bondo).

The head of state has been on a charm offensive on the opposition side if the series of meetings with members of the Azimio coalition is anything to go by. 

During his meeting with the nine ODM MPs from the Nyanza region, Ruto affirmed that the aim is to foster unity among the leaders to solve the challenges facing Kenyans.

President William Ruto’s daughter Charlene Ruto has come out to clarify on her ‘Office of The First Daughter’ remark after public outcry.

In a press statement issued Wednesday afternoon, Charlene said she referred to the entity handling her diary as Office of the First Daughter in private capacity.

Charlene clarified that the office was neither constitutional, nor was it drawing funds from the National Treasury.

The president’s daughter came under sharp criticism on Tuesday, December 13, when she introduced her delegation to Tanzania as members of staff at the Office of the First Daughter.

At the time, she was addressing delegates at the 2022 YouLead Summit held at the East African Community Headquarters in Arusha, Tanzania.

“The Office of the First Daughter is a private entity. It is neither a constitutional office, nor is it being funded by Kenyan taxpayers. It purely facilitates the activities and programmes run by myself,” Charlene Ruto said.

She further noted that the office amplifies the Kenyan youth’s voices in efforts to enable them get personal development opportunities.

“Through its independent structure and facilitators, the office has engaged various players across Kenya and beyond in line with some of its objectives of championing youth-based agenda and climate change advocacy,” said Charlene Ruto.

Azimio la Umoja-One Kenya coalition party leader Raila Odinga has hit back at President William Ruto over his outburst on the four embattled IEBC commissioners.

President Ruto Friday morning through his official Twitter account had told off Raila for coming to the defence of IEBC vice-chairperson Juliana Cherera, Francis Mathenge, Irene Masit and Justus Nyang’aya who are staring at an ouster.

Ruto attacked Raila and his Azimio team terming them as “the lords of impunity who destroyed oversight institutions using the handshake”.

Ruto further told the opposition to allow the parliament to hold rogue officials to account.

“The lords of impunity,who destroyed oversight institutions using the handshake fraud,should allow parliament to hold rogue officials who put the nation in danger by subverting the democratic will of the people to be held to account. New order is RULE of LAW not wishes of big men,” Ruto tweeted.

The four commissioners differed with IEBC chairman Wafula Chebukati following the August 2022 general elections when they held a different press conference at Serena Hotel.

Raila who was in the chambers where the Justice and Legal Affairs Committee of the National Assembly began hearing petitions filed against the embattled commissioners said the petitions against them. has other motives.

According to Raila, the ouster process has kicked off while an existing petition in the National Assembly to remove IEBC chairperson Wafula Chebukati has not been tabled.

Raila together with his Azimio counterparts were in the chambers where the Justice and Legal Affairs Committee of the National Assembly began hearing petitions filed against IEBC vice-chairperson Juliana Cherera, Francis Mathenge, Irene Masit and Justus Nyang’aya.

Hassan Omar, David Sankok Among 5 UDA EALA MP Nominees Finalists

President William Ruto’s United Democratic Alliance (UDA) under the Kenya Kwanza coalition has come up with its East Africa Legislative Assembly (EALA) MP Nominees finalists.

The final list of five members was presented during the Wednesday morning UDA Parliamentary Group meeting chaired by President Ruto at State House, Nairobi.

UDA MPs who attended the meeting were asked to support the nominees ahead of parliamentary voting on Thursday.

The nominees are 1. Hassan Omar, 2. Zipporah Kering, 3. David Ole Sankok, 4. Fred Muteti, 5. Falhada Dekow Iman.

15 nominees had initially been shortlisted for the five slots available for the ruling outfit.

According to President Ruto’s aide Dennis Itumbi, the 10 who did not make it to the final list will be allocated government jobs.

The Parliament will on Thursday vote on Kenya’s nominees to the East African Legislative Assembly.

Azimio la Umoja leader Raila’ Odingas ODM party has nominated the party boss’ daughter Winnie Odinga.

Wiper party has picked Kalonzo Musyoka’s son Kennedy Musyoka to represent Kenya at the Arusha-based EALA.

Former President Uhuru Kenyatta’s Jubilee nominated former Kieni MP Kanini Kega, party Secretary General Jeremiah Kioni and Ruth Mwaniki.

Details Of Ruto’s Morning Meeting With UDA MPs at State House

President William Ruto Wednesday morning hosted the Kenya Kwanza parliamentary group meeting at State House Nairobi.

During the 7am meeting, the UDA MPs were told that the ongoing vetting of Principal Secretaries has been temporarily suspended due to the court order obtained by LSK on Tuesday.

The Employment Labour Relations Court (ELRC) on Tuesday, November 15, issued orders restraining the National Assembly from vetting Permanent Secretaries (PS) nominated by President Ruto.

Justice Nzioki Makau ruled that the process be suspended until the hearing and determination of the application slated for Monday, November 21. 

Justice Nzioki barred the Principal Secretary nominees from appearing before Members of Parliament from various committees. 

Also, in the filed case, the Law Society of Kenya has challenged the list of nominees, arguing that it lacks gender, ethnic and regional balance.

Ruto during the State House meeting also told UDA MPs to focus on delivery and avoid “pushing for selfish and self-serving legislation like changing the Constitution to remove term limits.”

The meeting called by the President Ruto comes amid intensified lobby for the five slots for the East African Legislative Assembly (EALA) membership.

President Ruto: Disbanded DCI Team To Be Investigated

The recently disbanded Special Services Unit (SSU) in the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) will be investigated, President William Ruto has said.

Speaking Thursday afternoon during the Mashujaa Day fete held at Uhuru Gardens, President Ruto said that he had directed that immediate measures be undertaken to disband the unit.

The head of state had recently linked the DCI team to the extra-judicial killings that have been witnessed in the recent past.

The team was disbanded through an order issued by the acting Inspector General of Police Noor Gabow, with its members being recalled to the DCI headquarters.

President Ruto now says that investigations must commence so that those found culpable are held accountable.

“I have directed that immediate measures be undertaken to disband the Special Services Unit in the Directorate of Criminal Investigations and with urgency investigations must commence so that those found culpable are held accountable,” President Ruto said.

The members of the DCI SSU team were relied on to respond to any murder incident involving violent criminals on the run or unsolved issues and even terrorism.

It was a revamped team from an earlier one that was referred to as Special Crimes Prevention Unit (SCPU), which was reorganized in 2019 by former DCI George Kinoti.

Most officers now serving in the disbanded unit had served in SCPU and the defunct Flying Squad for years.

They were mainly involved in quelling the Mungiki menace from 2007 until 2019 when they were reorganized.

In this period, up to 300 people believed to have been members of the banned group disappeared or died mysteriously in shootings or were found dead on roads and thickets.

And the move to disband SSU did not come as a surprise to many. They anticipated it after the new government took over.

Miguna Miguna Attends Mashujaa Day Celebrations At Uhuru Gardens, Reveals His Next Action

Lawyer Miguna Miguna is attending the Mashujaa Day celebrations at Uhuru Gardens, Nairobi.

Miguna landed at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport this morning, exactly 1716 days or about 4 years since he was first forced into exile.

Speaking to the media while arriving at Uhuru Gardens, Miguna Miguna noted that he was feeling exhilarated to have come back home.

“I am feeling exhilarated, I can at least now smell the freshness of Kenyan oxygen and freedom. This is what we wanted,” Miguna said.

He thanked President William Ruto for keeping his word and allowing him back.

“President Ruto is a man of his word, he said he would facilitate my return and he did,” he added.

Asked on his plans after coming back to the country after almost 5 years into the exile, he noted that he will be breathing fresh oxygen and Kenyans should be ready to see what they will see.

“You know me, you will see what you are seeing,” he commented.

At Uhuru Gardens, Miguna was spotted having a deep conversation with former Migori Governor Okoth Obado.

Miguna had earlier on revealed that he was coming back to Kenya to liberate the Luo-Nyanza region.

He is allegedly being groomed to take over from ODM leader Raila Odinga as the region’s political Kingpin.

Miguna, who has been away from the country for close to five years following his deportation to Canada by former President Uhuru Kenyatta’s government proceeded to the State event at Uhuru Gardens after landing.

Taking to social media on Wednesday evening, Miguna shared his official invitation to attend Mashujaa Day celebrations that will be held at Uhuru Gardens.

After the national celebration, Miguna is also invited for a luncheon at State House, Nairobi.

President William Ruto’s Interior and National Administration Cabinet Secretary nominee Kithure Kindiki has revealed his net worth.

Prof Kindiki who appeared before the National Assembly Committee on Appointments for vetting in Parliament Tuesday morning said he is worth Kshs. 544 million.

According to Kindiki, his wealth derived from various sources of income.

He noted that he is an advocate at the High Court where I practise Law and also a business person running a number of businesses, SMEs and also a consultant for local and international organisations.

His investments in shares and real estate were among his major financial dealings.

He noted that it is made up of land and buildings of around Ksh165 million, bank deposits of about Ksh50 million, investment in shares, and deposits in five different saccos.

Kindiki was elected in 2013 General Election to represent Tharaka-Nithi county in the Kenyan Senate. Kindiki was re-elected in 2017 to represent the same county.

He also Served as Majority leader in his first term.

He served as the Deputy Speaker of the Kenya Senate from August 2017 to May 2020 when he was de-whipped from the position by the Jubilee Party for supporting Ruto.

President William Ruto appointed Amin through a gazette notice dated Friday, October 14, 2022.

This is after he outshined Bernard Barasa Walumoli, Eliud Kipkoech Lagat, Gideon Nyale Munga, Esther Chepkosgei Seroney and David Kipkosgey Birech.

Others who had been shortlisted for the position are Jonyo Michael Wiso, Nicholas Ireri Kamwende, Paul Jimmie Ndambuki and Dr. Simon Mwangi Wanderi.

2022 Poll Losers That Have Been Shortlisted For PS Jobs

The Public Service Commission (PSC) has published the names of 477 shortlisted from 9,154 applicants who had shown interest in the positions of Principal Secretaries.

However, the names of politicians who lost in the just concluded August 2022 general election have dominated the list.

They include a section of the poll losers and close allies of President William Ruto who are perhaps looking for a reward for the role they played in the head of state’s State House journey.

They include former Lang’ata MP Nixon Korir and his Kiminini counterpart Chris Wamalwa.

ODM’s Felix Oduor alias Jalang’o garnered 38, 948 votes while Mr Korir who was defending his seat for a second term on United Democratic Alliance (UDA) polled 36,836 votes.

Wamalwa who was eyeing the Trans Nzoia gubernatorial seat on Ford Kenya lost to Governor George Natembeya who vied on the Democratic Action Party of Kenya (DAP-K).

Mr Natembeya received 158,919 votes, and his competitor Dr Wamalwa came in second with 79,020 votes.

Former Narok Governor Samuel Tunai who vied for the senatorial seat on UDA and lost to ODM’s Ledama Olekina has also been shortlisted.

Mr Tunai got 117, 869 votes against 135, 180 votes of Senator Olekina.

Former Wajir West MP Ahmed Kolosh and former Isiolo Woman Representative Rehema Jaldesa have also found their way into the list.

Former Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) boss Halakhe Waqo who vied for Isiolo gubernatorial seat on ODM and lost is also on the list as well as Francis Meja who lost during the UDA nominations for the Kajiado governor seat in April.

Other poll losers include Veska Kangogo and former Kericho Deputy Governor Lily Ngok.
