Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) Party leader Raila Odinga has responded to Deputy President William Ruto’s outburts.

The second in command had on Tuesday August 11 claimed that there is a plan by the deep state and the system top rig him out in the 2022 general electuions.

The DP who was speaking at his Karen residence noted that he was unstoppable, saying that he would crash the so called deep state.

“I just want to tell them: ‘We’re waiting for you’. This system, this Deep State we are being told about, we are waiting for it. They’ll come with the system, but we will be there with the people and God and see who wins,” said Dr Ruto.

However, Raila on Thursday August 13 said he is unaware of the existence of an ineffable election results manipulator known as the Deep State.

“I, Raila Odinga, do not hold a position in the current Government. The Head of State is known, and the Deputy President is known. If you are talking of the Deep State, who is there? When someone talks about the Deep State [that is outside the Government circles], which one is it? We [in ODM] do not know about the Deep State,” said Raila Odinga while welcoming new members to ODM at Orange House in Nairobi on Thursday, August 13.

“From our previous experiences as ODM, we have learnt a lot; we know where we are coming from, and where we want to go,” he added.

After denying knowledge of the existence of a Deep State outside government circles, Raila was asked by a journalist to respond to his elder brother Oburu Odinga’s claim — that he (Raila) will be a beneficiary of the “system” in 2022 presidential race.

“Oburu Odinga is an individual [entitled to his own opinion],” the ODM leader replied, playing down the consequence of his brother’s remarks.

In late July 2020, Oburu Odinga said that the AU representative for Infrastructure lost previous presidential elections because he was not receiving the backing of the “system”.

“All these elections, we have been getting the most votes, but not ending up in State House because we did not have the system. But now in 2022, we have both the system and our votes which are always the majority — what more could we ask for?” Dr Oburu posed in a previous public address.

Interior Principal Secretary Karanja Kibicho on Wednesday August 12 also dismissed DP Ruto’s claims, arguing that there is nothing like the deep state in Kenya.

President Uhuru Kenyatta is reportedly laying the ground for former Gatanga MP Peter Kenneth to be his successor in Mount Kenya region.

And to achieve this goal, Uhuru and his strategists are out to have the Building Bridges Initiative passed and have Kenneth as the prime minister.

The picking of Kenneth as prime minister is part of Uhuru’s power game to win back the confidence of his Kikuyu tribesmen who incidentally together with others, are not happy with his leadership and claim he has been pushing for BBI so as to remain in power as prime minister after his tenure as president ends.

Another claim has been that Uhuru and Raila Odinga are pushing for the PM slot to have the president’s younger brother Muhoho Kenyatta land the post.

Sources say that Uhuru is aware of the ramifications and backlash in his Mount Kenya region if he grooms his kinsman to succeed him, hence the emerging Kenneth factor in the region, and nationally.

According to a local daily, Devolution CS Eugene Wamalwa is part of the power-sharing formula and he is likely to be in the Raila-Uhuru lineup after Musalia Mudavadi refused to play ball.

Eugene may go for the Kiminini parliamentary seat 2022 in his plan to land a cabinet seat being as it is that if BBI is adopted, CSs would be MPs.

Surprisingly, in the new lineup,it is said that Raila is out to block Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka getting a position and prefers Kitui Charity Ngilu.

Claims by ODM secretary general Edwin Sifuna that Kalonzo is hijacking and staging a coup in the handshake deal clearly shows that they are uncomfortable with him.

Baringo Senator Gideon Moi is another key player in the political arrangement. In Central region anti-Uhuru sentiments, and to an extent entire Kenyatta family, are widespread and a rebellion is largely looming.

Perhaps, aware that the Mt Kenya ground is not accommodative to him, Uhuru is working on plan B to endear himself to the vote bloc.

Together with powerful Kikuyu tycoons working under the umbrella of Mount Kenya Foundation, they are slowly grooming Kenneth to take care of the region’s interests.

Uhuru sometimes back told Kikuyus the person he will pick to unify them will surprise them.

It is true, picking on Kenneth, is a surprise political card as in 2013, Kenneth ran for presidency opposing Uhuru.

In 2017, Kenneth ran for Nairobi governorship and was Uhuru preferred Jubilee candidate, but William Ruto, who read the move as aimed at positioning PK to play a key role in Uhuru succession, decided to back Mike Sonko.

Locked out of Jubilee, Kenneth went for the top city seat as an independent candidate. Those surrounding Uhuru mostly from Murang’a county wanted to have Kenneth as city governor controlling billions of shillings and number two politician after Uhuru and easily succeed him as regional kingpin.

They have never forgiven Ruto for blocking the plan in 2017 thus Mt Kenya having a leadership vacuum.

Just days after meeting at COTU boss Francis Atwoli’s home, Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party leader Raila Odinga, Jubilee Vice Chairman David Murathe and Siaya senator James Orengo met again over the weekend.

This time round they met at the home of Agriculture Cabinet Secretary Peter Munya.

The leaders had attended the initiation ceremony of Munya’s son Karauni Munya.

Among the political issues discussed in the ceremony was the revenue sharing formula and the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI).

Raila was on Saturday, August 8, endorsed by Murathe for Presidency, a move which was later backed by Central organization of Trade Unions (COTU) Secretary General Francis Atwoli.

In an exclusive interview with KTN News, Murathe asked Kenyans to prepare for Raila’s presidency in 2022, comparing his situation to former South African President Nelson Mandela.

“We think it’s time Kenyans rewarded the years of struggle of Raila Amollo Odinga. They owe it to him. It’s like Mandela, and 2022 will be a Mandela Moment.

“And we would also like to tell him (Raila) to be a transitional president who will then nurture the young generation to take over in 2027,” stated Murathe.

Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party leader Raila Odinga has opened up on the ailment that saw him jet out of the country for Dubai, to seek specialised treatment.

In an exclusive interview with Nation Media Group Editorial Director Mutuma Mathiu on Sunday August 9, 2020, the former premier revealed that he experienced pain around his waist down to his legs.

He, however, noted that he was feeling much better and was even capable of undertaking nearly all the tasks he used to perform before the illness kicked in.

“I am feeling much better now. I was having bit of pain around my waist and going down my legs all the way to the foot and the doctors told me it was called Spinal Canal Stenosis,” he said

The African Union envoy further revealed that a minor procedure called Lumbar decompression and fusion was done on him in Dubai, to ease the pain he was feeling.

The procedure lasts for between 2 hours and 7 hours to operate after which the patient needs time to recuperate.

He also noted that he will be getting back to the gym very soon.

He arrived back in the country on Sunday, July 12, from Dubai where he had traveled to undergo the minor surgery.

Jubilee party Vice Chairman David Murathe has asked Wiper Movement leader Kalonzo Musyoka not to run for Presidency come 2022.

Instead, Murathe wants Kalonzo, whose party is a member of the NASA coalition, to step aside and let Kenyans make ODM party leader Raila Odinga a one term President.

In an exclusive interview with KTN last evening, Murathe said it is time to reward Raila for all his struggles and sacrifices for the country’s democratic growth and progress.

Raila would then be a one-term transitional president who will clear the way for generation change in Kenya’s political order. Murathe is listed among the eight men shaping President Uhuru Kenyatta succession politics.

According to him, it should by now be a forgone conclusion that Raila will be on the ballot.

“Untill Kalonzo moves from the Nasa coalition, what we are doing is co-operating. Just like we are co-operating with ODM. I don’t know what the arrangement is on the Nasa side but if you ask me I would like him (Kalonzo) to also let Raila run,” he said.

In an interview with Daily Nation last month, Kalonzo said he has a secret pact with Raila on how they will work together in 2022.

He said the pact is separate from the 2017 National Super Alliance (Nasa) coalition agreement that included Amani National Congress leader Musalia Mudavadi, Ford-Kenya’s Moses Wetang’ula and Chama Cha Mashinani’s Isaac Ruto.

According to Kalonzo, even though Nasa is dead, he has signed an agreement with Raila on how they will approach the 2022 elections.

He however, refused to disclose details of the deal, but said it was entered into without the knowledge of the other Nasa principals.

ODM Secretary General Edwin Sifuna later dismissed the claims, saying that ODM had no any political deal with Kalonzo ahead of 2022.

Kalonzo however, maintained that his deal with Raila was intact, arguing that he was sober while making his claims in the interview with Daily Nation.

Senators are set to receive up to Ksh 5 million in bribes for them to pass the controversial new County revenue allocation formula.

Narok senator Ledama Olekina has this morning hinted at the plot, arguing that it will be suicidal for any senator to accept the bribes.

According to the ODM senator, the bribe will only help to fuel division of Kenya due to the revenue share discourse.

Taking to his official twitter handle, he went further to curse the lawmakers who will accept the Ksh 5 million bribe and in turn betray Kenyans.

Ledama prayed for the family of those who will accept the bribe not to have peace at all.

“It will be suicidal for any Senator to accept a bribe of Ksh 5M to fuel the division of Kenya due to the revenue share discourse! May your family never have peace if you accept a bribe to divide Kenya! Tadoi anaa Enkolong!” senator Ledama tweeted.

The senate is this afternoon expected to vote on the crucial County revenue formula, with senators having different opinions ahead of the special seating.

A section of senators opposed to the county cash sharing formula have vowed to reject it.

According to a report by The Star, the 25 senators who last week engineered the defeat of an amendment to defer the disputed formula by two years have plotted another elaborate plan to reject it in totality.

The amendment was sponsored by Majority Chief Whip Irungu Kang’ata (Murang’a) with the blessings of President Uhuru Kenyatta and ODM leader Raila Odinga.

With their number standing at 25, the opposing senators have surpassed the 24 threshold required to defeat the formula that would see 18 counties lose Sh17 billion.

On Sunday, Raila met a section of Uhuru’s allies led by Jubilee vice chairman David Murathe at the Kajiado home of Cotu secretary general Francis Atwoli.

At the meeting, Raila assured the President’s side that he would rally his senators to support the formula.

Siaya Senator James Orengo who is the Minority Leader was charged with bringing the leaders together.

Deputy President William Ruto his battling for Luo-Nyanza votes as 2022 nears.

Over the weekend, DP Ruto’s allies raided Opposition chief Raila Odinga’s Nyanza backyard by hosting youths from the region.

Through his close ally Kapseret MP Oscar Sudi, Ruto has been assembling grassroots troops from Nyanza that will campaign for him in the 2022 elections.

In a meeting attended by Kimilili MP Didmus Barasa and his Bahati counterpart Kimani Ngunjiri, Sudi at the weekend hosted youths from Kisumu, Siaya, Migori and Homa Bay at his rural home in Kapsaret.

Those who attended the rally included youth leaders, women groups and clerics  who previously supported Raila’s presidential campaigns.

The youth were mainly from Kisumu’s Kondele estate, which is a political hotbed in the lakeside city and those from Raila’s Bondo rural home.

Others were from Ahero, Nyakach, Muhoroni and Kendu Bay.

According to a report by a local daily, the youths have formed a movement dubbed “ Nyanza Youth Movement for Ruto 2022” to campaign for Ruto.

On Sunday August 2, 2020, the Kapseret MP told the local daily  that they were determined to raid Raila’s political turf.

“We are determined to penetrate Luo Nyanza so that we can unlock its residents from the chains of poverty. Our intention is to sell the DP as the best alternative,” he was quoted saying.

Sudi said Kenyans should live together in harmony despite holding divergent political views, citing his relationship with Raila.

“Raila is my friend, even though we have different political views. Just the other day we had lunch as friends,” he said.

The Kapseret MP also asked leaders not to incite Kenyans against each other.

“There is no day citizens engage in violence on their own, they are usually incited by leaders,” he said.

On his part, Barasa called on Nyanza residents to shun tribal politics and vote for leaders with a clear development agenda.

“You do not eat the title of your tribesmen in Government. Your life will not change because your tribesman is in power, your life will only change if the people you elect have a plan to transform lives,” said Barasa.

A section of Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) lawmakers from the coastal region are plotting to dump the Raila Odinga-led Orange party for a new political outfit.

This follows Raila’s  decision to back the third basis formula of revenue allocation across counties.

ODM’s Kilifi North MP Owen Baya, on Wednesday, July 29, announced that plans were well underway to launch a new political outfit for the Coast region.

He also revealed that legislators from various factions including the ruling Jubilee Party had been meeting regularly to iron out various details regarding the workings of the proposed party.

A week ago, ‘ODM rebel’ and Malindi MP Aisha Jumwa openly called for other coastal leaders to ditch the Raila-led party.

Coast Parliamentary Group Chairman, Galole MP Said Hirbae, backed his colleagues’ statement, adding that consultations were well underway.

ODM’s decision to overlook leaders from the region for coveted parliamentary committees was also mooted as a major reason behind the decision to break away.

Despite having not yet settled on a date for the launch of the party, the Kilifi North MP, while addressing the media, made it clear that their new political outfit would be launched before the 2022 General Elections

Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party leader Raila odinga has issued a detailed statement on the revenue sharing formula that has caused a standoff in the senate.

Raila in a statement issued on Monday July 27, 2020 has accused the senate of failing to adopt its own amendments to the third basis formula for sharing revenue from the Commission for Revenue Allocation (CRA).

The former Prime Minister argues that the senate standoff is causing paralysis and mistrust at a time Counties need to be united and singularly focused on fighting Covid-19.

Raila says the current standoff in the senate is a variation of what was recommended by the CRA, the body mandated under article 216 (1) of the Kenyan Constitution, to come up with the formula.

Raila notes that the revenue should be population driven.

He says the CRA recommendation is based on an understanding that County governments are about service requirements of the population including in health, agriculture, infrastructure, education among others.

Under the circumstances, Raila says, the country would be better served if the senate adopted the recommendation of the CRA for the next five financial years.

In order to avoid similar standoffs next time, Raila says that the concerns currently arising should be forwarded to the CRA for consideration in its future recommendation.

However, the African Union envoy notes that Counties must be encouraged to raise their own source revenues from the economic activities within the counties and demanding a prudent usage of those resources.

He says the senate should allow the country move forward by adopting the CRA report while using the concerns raised for future recommendations on revenue sharing.

Members of Parliament affiliated to Deputy President William Ruto’s Tanga Tanga faction of Jubilee party have now taken their fight to Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party leader Raila Odinga’s doorstep, days after losing the fight to President Uhuru Kenyatta.

The head of state has been carrying out a purge in the ruling party that saw tanga tanga affiliated members lose plum positions both in the senate and in the National Assembly.

This week, the MPs adopted changes in the National Assembly leadership, which saw Ruto allies kicked out of powerful house committees, with some like Kikuyu MP Kimani Ichungwah being demoted from lucrative Budget committee to catering.

After losing the fight to reclaim their positions in parliament, Ruto allies have now claimed that the ODM party is now running the government and must relinquish its Minority party positions in Parliament.

According to The Standard, Ruto’s camp now wants the plum positions that are being held by ODM, taken up by MPs in Musalia Mudavadi’s Amani National Congress (ANC) who would play the opposition role in both the National Assembly and the Senate.

Soy MP Caleb Kositany and his Aldai counterpart Cornelly Serem on Thursday July 16, 2020 announced plans to write to National Assembly Speaker Justin Muturi to make a ruling on whether ODM should continue holding the positions after “joining the government and taking up Majority side slots.”

The two MPs declared that they were ready to move to the High Court to seek an interpretation of the current setup of Parliament and whether ODM should continue acting as the opposition.

Kositany argues that ODM is running the government and Kenyans cannot expect them to oversight the excesses of the same government.

Similar views were expressed by Serem, who said they are ready to take up the battle to kick out ODM MPs from Minority leadership positions as well as oversight committees held by the opposition.

Former Kakamega senator Boni Khalwale’s message to Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party leader Raila Odinga has left netizens with many questions.

Khalwale on Wednesday July 8, 2020 through his official twitter handle sent a message of good will to the former Prime Minister.

Khalwale noted that when the African Union’s chapter of friends is written, he will not be left out.

The 2022 Kakamega gubernatorial aspirant noted that Raila’s friendship chapter will record the sacrifices he made for him in Zanzibar, during the Okoa Kenya initiative, during the 2017 campaigns and the six hours of teargas, gunshots, blood and death during the time Raila was returning to Kenya from the USA.

Khalwale went ahead to pray for Raila’s quick recovery, telling him to get well soon.

The Orange party leader is recuperating in Dubai after undergoing a minor surgery.

“When it is written, the chapter on ua friends will record the sacrifices I met for u in Zanzibar, Okoa Kenya Initiative, 2017 campaigns & the 6 hours of teargas/gunshots/tears/blood/death, on ua arrival from the USA. U are in my thoughts & prayers. @RailaOdinga, do get well soon,” reads Khalwale’s Twitter post.

However, Khalwale’s words met netizens with shock, leaving them wondering why he has suddenly changed from attacking Raila, to sending him messages of goodwill.

Khalwale has been Raila’s big critic since he decamped from NASA coalition to join Deputy President William Ruto’s team.

Some netizens have however, told Khalwale to mean his words, since there are no permanent enemies in politics.

Here are some of the reactions.

Court has ordered for the interrogation of President Uhuru Kenyatta and ODM leader Raila Odinga over a leaked CCTV footage showing the two touring Nairobi CBD at night.

The Milimani Principal Magistrate Zainab Abdul on Thursday July 2 ordered an investigating officer assigned the case lodged against two Sarova Stanley contractees to record statements from President Kenyatta and Raila, whose videos were allegedly shared by the accused, consequently breaching the Cyber Crimes law.

The footage was obtained from June 2, 2020 CCTV recordings captured by Sarova Stanley surveillance cameras, which showed President Kenyatta and Raila inspecting a deserted Kenyatta Avenue at 8:20pm.

Patrick Rading Ambogo, a security supervisor, and Janet Magoma Ayonga, a CCTV controller contracted by Sarova Stanley, were on June 17 charged with unauthorised interception of computer data under Section 17 (1) of the Computer Misuse and Cyber Crimes Act.

Ambogo and Ayonga, who are currently out on Ksh10, 000 bail each, are being represented by lawyers Danstan Omari and Apollo Moboya, who requested the court to order the investigating officer, David Tenei, to interrogate and record statements from President Kenyatta and Mr Odinga as their statements would be crucial to the case.

Milimani Principal Magistrate Zainab Abdul allowed Omari’s request, and directed Chief Inspector Tenei to obtain statements from President Kenyatta and Raila, and submit to the courts in one week’s time the pair’s recorded account of events.

“We had requested the prosecution to furnish us with statements filed by President Kenyatta and Mr Odinga, who are alleged to have been caught on tape touring the CBD at night, but the prosecution is yet to heed our request,” said Omari, who also asked the prosecution to supply the defense with an original footage of the June 2, 2020 CCTV recording.

Magistrate Abdul, who described the case as “interesting”, ordered the parties to appear before her on July 9, 2020.

The suspects were employed by Fidelity Guards and Robinson Security who are New Stanley Hotel’s property security guards and CCTV operators respectively.

The two were accused of “jointly intentionally and without authorisation intercepted a security CCTV footage capturing the Head of State’s entourage along Kenyatta Avenue.”

The charge, on conviction, carries a fine of Ksh10 million or a jail term of not more than five years or both.

She, however, noted that Raila might not be coming home soon as he needs more time to rest

According to Ida, many people would be flocking the home to see him if, was he around. She noted that each visitor always wants at least to talk to him thus eating away into his recovery time.
