Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party leader Raila Odinga will stay longer in Dubai after undergoing a minor surgery, his wife Ida Odinga has said.

Speaking to The Standard Newspaper, Ida revealed that her husband was successfully treated of a nerve disorder affecting one leg.

revealed that the condition resulted in pain in the affected leg adding that she stayed in contact with him on an hourly basis.

She, however, noted that Odinga might not be coming home soon as he needs more time to rest.

According to Ida, many people would be flocking the home to see him if, was he around. She noted that each visitor always wants at least to talk to him thus eating away into his recovery time.

She also cited that since there are no commercial flights currently, the family will have to charter a plane if Raila was to come back. She noted that the process will be kicked off once he fully recovers.

She dismissed as “rumours” reports on social media that Odinga was receiving cancer treatment in China.

Raila’s brother Oburu Odinga was the first person to dispel rumours of the former Prime Minister being in China last week. He stated that Raila had undergone a back surgery and was responding well to treatment.

Mombasa Governor Hassan Ali Joho has updated Kenyans on Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party leader Raila Odinga’s health condition after he underwent a minor surgery in United Arab Emirates.

Joho through a video posted on his official twitter handle on Friday June 26, 2020 revealed that he had spoken to Raila who is recuperating in a German Hospital in Dubai.

The ODM Deputy party leader noted that Raila was fairing on well, and that he well soon jet back into the country.

He urged Kenyans to continue praying for him, reminding them that leaders, like any other person are humans, and they can fall sick and seek treatment.

Joho further pointed out that Raila is human and faces the same challenges human being face in life.

“He has undergone a procedure but let us not forget even our leaders are still human beings and sometimes have to be tested, sometimes they have to be sick and treated, sometime they have to deal with issues that every human being goes through but the best we could do is pray for them,” said Joho.

Raila’s brother and family spokesperson Dr Oburu Oginga, told a local daily that the former prime minister left the country on Sunday for the United Arab Emirates.

“Jakom (Raila) is out of the country for a minor surgical operation on his back. It is not a serious health issue, but just a minor one. So, he’s okay,” Oburu said.

Oburu further revealed that Raila, 75, was admitted to a German hospital in Dubai.

Without disclosing the name of the facility, Oburu said: “The Germans have a good hospital facility in the Arabian country where he’s being monitored.”

He dismissed social media reports that Raila had gone to China for treatment.

“He’s not in China. The last time he was there, I think, was in November last year before the coronavirus pandemic. Right now, if you want to go there, you must be ready for a 14-day military quarantine. That’s not tenable, so there is no way he could have gone there,” he said.

Elgeyo Marakwet senator Kipchumba Murkomen has torn into Raila Odinga Junior over political remarks the former senate majority leader made against ODM party leader Raila Odinga.

Murkomen, at the time Raila wanted to swear himself in as the people’s President following a disputed 2017 general election, took to his twitter account and remarked that there was no problem if the NASA leader wanted to swear himself in as a President of a certain club, an NGO or a certain organisation.

Murkomen went ahead to say the there was no any harm if Raila purported to be Kenya’s president when he was actually not, adding that a dialogue debate would have been ended for Raila to get satisfied.

However, a twitter user by the name Dr Ben Baimwera responded to Murkomen’s remarks, saying that leaders who recklessly speak like him have always come to regret at some point.

While referring to Murkomen’s ouster as the senate majority leader, Raila Junior quoted Baimwera’s response to Murkomen’s remarks, noting that the words were now haunting the lawmaker.

However, Murkomen in his response told off Raila Junior, saying that it would have been better if he had tagged his father, Raila and the State House.

The vocal lawmaker went ahead to tell Raila Junior that if the right leadership is the one established by Raila, then he was just walking in a path well troden.

Murkomen further told Raila Junior that at his current age, where is is serving as Elgeyo Marakwet senator, the former Prime Minister was not yet an MP.

He went ahead to tell Raila Junior to relax, for things would change again.

“Makes more sense if you tag @RailaOdinga&@StateHouseKenya. Remember that if the right path to leadership is the one established by your father then I am walking in a path well trodden. At My age your dad was not yet MP. I was just doing my job you, relax things will change again,” responded Murkomen.

President Uhuru Kenyatta led Jubilee party has finally entered into a post-election deal with Kalonzo Musyoka’s Wiper Movement party and Isaac Rutto’s Chama Cha Mashinani (CCM).

The deal between the parties was signed on Wednesday June 17, 2020 at Jubilee Party headquarters in Pangani, along Thika Super Highway, Nairobi.

Wiper and CCM are the latest parties to enter into a post-poll deal with the ruling Jubilee party. This comes after Jubilee party and Kanu signed a coalition agreement.

The agreement saw West Pokot Senator Samuel Poghisio of Kanu being named the Senate Majority Leader.

Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party leader Raila Odinga has been working with President Kenyatta since their March 9, 2018 handshake.

The two are pushing for the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI) which is advocating for constitutional changes.

With Kalonzo and Rutto joining the deal with Jubilee, their NASA counterparts Musalia Mudavadi of the African National Congress (ANC) party and Ford Kenya’s Moses Wetang’ula have been left alone in the coalition that saw Raila raise its flag during the 2017 general polls.

Isaac Rutto who was part of the NASA brigade quit moments after the general elections that saw him lose his Bomet gubernatorial seat to the late Joyce Laboso.

Last month, the Wiper National Executive Council authorised Kalonzo to seal a co-operation agreement with Jubilee and Kanu.

The resolution was reached during a virtual meeting held by more than 50 members under its leader. The members unanimously backed the immediate implementation of the cooperation agreement.

The party NEC added that once the agreement is sealed, it will be signed by party chairman Chirau Ali Mwakwere and secretary general Judith Sijeny.

The party then held a National Delegates Conference to endorse the formation of an agreement.

During the meeting, Kalonzo said that its membership to the National Super Alliance (NASA) will not be altered by the coalition.

Will Wetang’ula and Mudavadi also give in and join their colleagues ahead of 2022 succession politics?

Laikipia Woman Rep Catherine Waruguru has been kicked out of parliamentary committee.

Others expelled are Gatundu South MP Moses Kuria, Cornelly Serem and Joyce Korir.

Majority Chief Whip Emmanuel Wangwe, in letters dated June 17, informed the MPs of their expulsion.

Waruguru had met ODM leader Raila Odinga last week in what was seen as a bid to save her post, but it seems it was a case of too little too late.

Waruguru met the African Union Special Envoy for Infrastructure last Tuesday before Laikipia North MP Sarah Korere visited the ODM leader the following day.

The outspoken MP, who was a staunch supporter of deputy president William Ruto, said she had resorted to work with the government. Ms Waruguru said she met the Orange Democratic Movement leader to discuss pertinent issues of national importance.

The meeting, which was also attended by National Assembly Minority Whip Junet Mohamed, elicited mixed reactions among Kenyans, especially from Laikipia.

The first time MP, commonly known as ‘Mama Simba’ however said she welcomed criticisms and support in equal measure.

She supports the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI) that is championed by President Kenyatta and Mr Odinga. The lawmaker has been one of Dr Ruto’s allies who are being kicked out of critical House leadership positions.

She was serving as as vice chairperson of the National Assembly’s Members Services and Facilities Committee and has been also a member of the departmental committee on lands.

As the Senate convenes today (Tuesday June 16) to discuss whether governor Anne Waiguru’s impeachment case should be heard by the whole senate or a committee, Waiguru hopes the senators who were rallied by President Uhuru Kenyatta and ODM leader Raila Odinga to kick out former Kiambu governor Ferdinard Waititu will rescue her.

On her sights are senators Reubenson Kibiru (Kirinyaga), Adan Fatuma (Isiolo), Mutula Kilonzo (Makueni), Kimani Wamatangi (Kiambu), Ephraim Maina (Nyeri), Ibrahim Ali (Wajir), Yusuf Haji (Garissa), Boy Issa Juma (Kwale), Mwadzayo Mwachirifu (Kilifi), Cleopas Malala (Kakamega), Okong’o Mogeni (Nyamira), Gideon Moi (Baringo), Boniface Mutinda (Machakos), Mwashushe Mwaruma (Taita), Mwinyi Faki (Mombasa), Moses Kajwang’ (Homa Bay), Njeru Ndwiga (Embu), Ledama Olekina (Narok), Samson Ongeri (Kisii), James Orengo (Siaya), Samuel Poghisio (West Pokot), Johnson Sakaja (Nairobi), Margaret Jepkoech (Uasin Gishu), Amos Wako (Busia), Enock Wambua (Kitui) and George Khaniri (Vihiga).

Others are Beth Mugo (Nominated), Abshiro Halake (Nominated), Isaac Mwaura (Nominated), Rose Nyamunga (Nominated) and Gertrude Musuruve (Nominated).

But when news reached Kirinyaga that Waiguru was lobbying Uhuru and Raila to whip about 28 senators to shoot down her ouster, the residents staged a demonstration to warn the President against trying to save the governor.

In a protest held in Kutus, the residents chanted “Waiguru must go!” as they carried placards scribbled “President Uhuru Kenyatta, we are ready to fight corruption in Kirinyaga”.

The traders, who abandoned their jobs temporarily, urged the Senate to uphold Waiguru’s impeachment by the County Assembly.

“Kindly help us seize corruption in Kirinyaga,” read another placard. “You were part of the NYS scandal, you’re also corrupt in Kirinyaga. Waiguru must go,” another one read.

According to sources, the demonstration was organised by MCAs who are being bankrolled by Interior Principal Secretary Karanja Kibicho, who is eyeing the gubernatorial seat in 2022.

Besides Kibicho, Waiguru’s other opponent is former Cabinet Minister Martha Karua, who she defeated in the gubernatorial race.

Karua filed a petition to oust her but it was thrown out by the courts, including the Supreme Court.

More pressure was piled on Waiguru after the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) reiterated that they had initiated corruption investigations against her.

Speaking after the governor was ousted, EACC’s Central Region Head, Charles Rasugu said his officers will be seeking to establish whether there was a conflict of interest in the awarding of a Sh50 million tender by Waiguru.

Rusugu further stated that Sh10.6 million in travel allowances is also under investigation.

Insiders add that Jubilee Party Secretary-General Raphael Tuju has already engineered a scheme to save Waiguru from impeachment.

Tuju is pushing Senate Majority Chief Whip Irungu Kang’ata to form a special committee that would favour the Kirinyaga Governor during her impeachment hearing.

According to the Impeachment Procedure Bill, 2018, the removal of a Governor from office could involve the formation of a special committee under the directive of the Speaker of the House.

An Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) senator has spoken tough ahead of today’s senate’s seating to determine Kirinyaga governor Anne Waiguru’s impeachment.

Taking to his official twitter account this morning, Narok senator Ledama Olekina said that the senators must and shall be guided by the constitution in determining the motion.

If not, Olekina says that the constitution should be then thrown away.

“We must and shall be guided by the constitution … if not then we might as well throw it away! Good day ahead!” he posted.

The senate is set to determine whether Waiguru’s impeachment case should be heard by a committee or the entire senate.

There have been speculations that the Raila Odinga led Orange party is set to save Waiguru from ouster.

However, Raila has hence denied holding a meeting with Waiguru over her impeachment.

Daily Nation Newspaper had on Sunday June 14 reported that Waiguru and Raila met on Thursday evening in efforts to help save her job, which is hanging by a thread after she was impeached by the county assembly last week and failed in her bid to block the move in court.

The local daily reported that Raila met Waiguru at an exclusive club in Karen, Nairobi, alongside a few aides, with the key agenda being whipping ODM and other “friendly” senators to defeat the motion against her.

It was further reported that Waiguru walked in a few minutes to 7pm accompanied by two aides. Then Kiambu Governor James Nyoro and his Nyeri counterpart Mutahi Kahiga joined her before Mr Odinga and a few of his trusted MPs arrived.

Raila has distanced himself from the said meeting. The former Prime Minister says that there does not exist any senate committee to investigate Waiguru’s impeachment and whose members from ODM he has instructed to save Waiguru as reported by the local daily.

Raila said that at the said hours of the meeting, he had a meeting with Laikipia women Representative Catherine Waruguru who was in the company of some Members of Parliament.

But contradicting Raila, Suna East MP Junet Mohamed on Sunday claimed that ODM was ready to save Waiguru since it supports women leadership.

Junet also said that there was no any problem if Raila meets Waiguru, arguing that they can meet as many times as they want since Raila is a national leader while Waiguru is an elected governor.

The Orange party’s director of elections further claimed that Waiguru had not committed any crime, and those pushing for her ouster are just against her leadership.

Elgeyo Marakwet Senator Kipchumba Murkomen on Sunday June 14, 2020 tore into Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party leader Raila Odinga moments after he denied holding any meeting with impeached Kirinyaga governor Anne Waiguru.

Raila on Sunday afternoon issued a statement distancing himself from the said meeting with Waiguru.

Raila in the statement noted that there does not exist any senate committee to investigate Waiguru’s impeachment and whose members from ODM he has instructed to save Waiguru as reported by the local daily.

Raila says that at the said hours of the meeting, he had a meeting with Laikipia women Representative Catherine Waruguru who was in the company of some Members of Parliament.

He says that their meeting had nothing to do with governor Waiguru’s tribulations.

Daily Nation Newspaper had on Sunday June 14 reported that Waiguru and Raila met on Thursday evening in efforts to help save her job, which is hanging by a thread after she was impeached by the county assembly last week and failed in her bid to block the move in court.

But Murkomen while hitting out at Raila says that the former Prime Minister’s denial can only be taken seriously on Tuesday once Kenyans see the instructions has has allegedly given to Senate Minority leader James Orengo and Makueni senator Mutula Kilonzo junior.

Murkomen says that Raila’s denial at the moment should be treated as a decoy.

Just a day after Laikipia Women Representative Cate Waruguru dumped Deputy President William Ruto’s Tanga Tanga faction for ODM party leader Raila Odinga, another member of the political camp has defected.

Laikipia North MP Sarah Korere, who has been a champion of Tanga tanga’s Inua Mama campaign on Tuesday paid allegiance to the Uhuru-Raila unity campaign.

Raila through his official twitter account revealed that he had received MP Korore, who expressed commitment to support the national programs aimed at uniting the nation.

At the same time, Raila revealed that he had also held talks with Coast region politicians Gideon Mung’aro and Suleiman Shahbal on range of issues touching on the development of the Coast.

“Received Laikipia North MP Sarah Korere who expressed commitment to support the national programs aimed at uniting our nation. I also held talks with Coast politicians @Hon_Mungaro and @SuleimanShahbal on a range of issues touching on the development of the Coast,” Raila tweeted.

Korere has been a staunch supporter of Ruto’s 2022 p[residential campaign and one of the founder members of the Inua Mama Group – a women lobby group that supports the DP.

The two Laikipia MPs, Waruguru and Korere, abandoned the DP just days after nominated MP Millicent Omanga, also a founding member of the Inua Mama Group, defected from Tanga Tanga.

Gatundu South MP Moses Kuria has claimed that Deputy President William Ruto’s camp will take all the new political positions that are to be created under the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI).

Taking to his official Facebook account on Thursday evening, the controversial lawmaker claimed that the camp supporting President Uhuru Kenyatta and ODM leader Raila Odinga’s BBI push expect DP Ruto’s camp to oppose them.

This, according to Moses Kuria, is the reason why Kieni MP Kanini Kega wants National Assembly Majority leader Aden Duale removed.

Mr Kuria notes that the Kieleweke faction of Jubilee party want Duale removed because of not supporting the BBI.

However, the second term MP made a bold declaration, saying that Tanga Tanga faction of Jubilee will not oppose the BBI, unless it says that ballot papers will come pre-marked for Raila Odinga.

He has further dared the Uhuru team to bring on the BBI, so that it can be passed for both Ruto and the handshake camp to meet on the ballot come 2022.

He says that the current 2010 pure Presidential system was brought by Raila thinking he would be President.

Moses Kuria further, encouraged the BBI team to create the new posts under BBI and bring them on so that the Ruto camp can occupy all of them.

“From all these accusations that Hon Kanini Kega wants to remove Hon Aden Duale for not supporting the BBI process, it is clear that some people will use the BBI for some political Maccarthyism. They expect William Ruto and his team to oppose. I have bad news for you. The only BBI we will oppose is the one that says that ballot papers will come pre-marked for Raila Odinga. Hiyo ingine leteni tupitishe then tukutane kwa debe. Even the current 2010 pure Presidential system was brought by Raila thinking he would be President. Tengezeni hizo viti mnatengeneza. Tutapitisha na tuzikalie,” reads his Facebook post.

Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) Communication director Philip Etale has told Gatundu South MP Moses Kuria to stop dragging the Orange party leader into his problems.

Taking to his official twitter account on Wednesday June 3, Etale told the controversial lawmaker that the former Prime Minister is not part of his woes in his own constituency.

Etale instead, has urged Moses Kuria to go back to his constituents, face them and pour out his heart instead of using Raila as a scapegoat for his problems.

“Hon. Moses Kuria, I know you have many problems back in Gatundu and Raila Odinga is not one of them. Please just face your constituent and pour out your heart instead of using Raila as a scapegoat,” he said.

Last month, a section of Nairobi ODM MPs hit out at Kuria for his constant attack on their party leader.

The lawmakers, led by ODM Nairobi County chairman and Makadara MP George Aladwa, called on Kuria to desist from divisive politics and instead focus on helping the government led by President Uhuru Kenyatta in fighting coronavirus pandemic as well as corruption.

Aladwa accused Mr Kuria of fighting any individual seen to be giving the backing the President needs to fight corruption and especially to recover stolen public money and land as well as deploy the recovered resources in the fight against Covid-19.

In January this year, Kuria, who referring to Raila as a ‘second wife’ to President Kenyatta, demanded respect for Tanga Tanga MPs.

Kuria has also, on several occasions, has accused Raila of being behind exiled lawyer Miguna Miguna’s tribulations.

The controversial MP has now claimed there is a plot to assassinate him for speaking the truth to power.

“So what after you kill me? Am I the last one who will speak the truth to you and your power?” Kuria posted on his social media account.

The MP, however, did not mention who intends to kill him but hinted that if the said assassination happens, it is because he is speaking the truth to power.

Kuria has on several occasions blasted the president’s leadership, saying Uhuru has changed since joining hands with his opponent Raila Odinga.

This has damaged his relationship with the people in Jubilee who supported him for re-election.

In the meantime, Uhuru seems to be at peace ever since having a handshake with Raila, with a leaked video showing them touring the Nairobi CBD at night to inspect projects.

President Uhuru Kenyatta on Tuesday June 1, sent an open warning to his Deputy William Ruto.

The head of state during the Jubilee party parliamentary Group meeting at State House, Nairobi openly told DP Ruto and Jubilee MPs, on the type of Presidential candidate he will support in 2022.

In a meeting that lasted 24 minutes, Uhuru told the second in command and the ruling party’s parliamentarians that he will pass the baton to an heir who supports and values his legacy.

He said he will support a candidate who will build on his agenda, a statement that has been viewed by many as a veiled warning to his Deputy.

The remarks suggest his 2022 options are wide open despite pressure from Ruto’s allies for the Head of State to throw his weight behind the DP.

It was also an open warning to Ruto to stop early political campaigns and support the President’s legacy projects if he has to bank his 2022 presidential ambitions on the support of his boss.

In May 2018, at the height of aggressive countrywide campaigns by Ruto, Uhuru also told his Nyeri turf that his 2022 presidential choice will shock many.

Ruto’s allies then threw tantrums at the President accusing him of trying to renege on an earlier promise that the DP would take over.

Speaking  during a Jubilee Coalition Parliamentary Group meeting, a furious Uhuru maintained that there is no way he will rally behind anyone who will sabotage the agenda he has laid for the country.

MPs who attended the meeting held at State House in Nairobi said Uhuru warned that he will not dither from shoving away any politician who would undermine his leadership and national unity agenda.

“I will be happy to know that the person I will be passing the baton to is part of my agenda,” Uhuru told the 212 MPs.

The President’s remarks came after he enjoyed a night out with Opposition chief Raila Odinga after the Madaraka Day celebrations at State House during the day.

The duo arrived at the Nairobi CBD in the middle of the night and was seen inspecting the re-carpeting of roads by the Nairobi Metropolitan Service.

The remarks at the PG meeting attracted furious reactions from Ruto’s key ally, Soy MP Caleb Kositany, who said Kenyans have the constitutional mandate to elect their president.

The DP’s early campaigns have been seen as disruptive to the President’s agenda to build an enduring legacy.

Affordable housing, manufacturing, food security and universal healthcare are the four key pillars of the President’s legacy projects dubbed the Big Four Agenda.

Uhuru also has another nine-point agenda with Raila to cure the country’s recurrent challenges by embracing national unity as manifested by the handshake on March 9, 2018.

The BBI is expected to deliver that agenda.

ODM party leader Raila Odinga has sent a bold message to Kenyans as the country commemorates 57th Madaraka Day in a very unique way, due to Covid-19 pandemic.

Through a video shared on his official twitter handle on Monday June 1, 2020, Raila says that under this unique circumstances, Kenyans should have a happy and a rewording Madaraka Day.

The former premier took the opportunity to salute front line health workers as they fight the pandemic.

“I salute our health workers who have made all the difference in saving lives. I salute the civil servants in the ministry of Health. I thank CS Mutahi Kagwe for leading the team in a gallant struggle,” he said.

“I salute our citizens who have followed the government guidelines. I wish to urge the few Kenyans who are desisting from washing their hands..to do what the government is asking them of.”

Raila said the health workers, civil servants, and obedient Citizens are heroes that have to be celebrated.

“We have showed the world that what other nations can do, Kenya can do better. I want to thank the president for standing firm but there is room for improvement,” he said.

“Every struggle requires that you forego the struggle to get what you want. If our parents resorted to excuses and chose the easy life, there would be no Madaraka day.”

Raila said Kenyans need to embrace the sacrifices of our parents.

“Let us reflect on personal responsibility, dignity and respect for our nation,” he said.

He said this will come in handy in rebuilding our nation after the coronavirus pandemic.
