Road accident

Four Kenyans, including two politicians, lost their lives on Saturday, March 22, 2024, in a grisly road accident that occurred in Tapach on the Ugandan side.

West Pokot County Commissioner Khaliff Abdullahi on Sunday morning confirmed that the two politicians wo died in the accident are from West Pokot.

Police reports indicate that the accident took place along Moroto-Loroo Road within the Karamonjong area in Uganda at about 8:00 pm on Saturday, involving Kenyans who were on their way back to Kapenguria, West Pokot, from Moroto.

Three passengers died together with the driver, with only one person surviving the horrific accident.

The people who died have been identified as Philemon Lotudo, Elijah Lopuke, Jackson Kariwoi, and Ben Ikong.

Reports also indicate that Kariwoi and Ikong died on the spot while Lotudo succumbed to his injuries on his way to the hospital. The other victim passed away while receiving treatment.

The victims are said to have been part of a delegation accompanying Pokot South MP David Pkosing on a cross-border tour of Kenya and Uganda.

Sook Ward MCA Martin Komongiro narrowly escaped the accident with his life and was rushed to Eldoret for specialized treatment.

One of the deceased vied for the Kapenguria MP seat in the 2022 elections while the other took a stab at the MCA position.

Lopuke, on the other hand, had won the UDA chairmanship in Alale Ward in West Pokot in the ruling party’s last grassroots elections.

Investigations into the accident have since kicked off. A postmortem has already been conducted, and the bodies, together with the survivor, have left Moroto Referral Hospital for West Pokot at 3:00 am. They are currently being reserved at Cherangani Nursing Funeral Home.

Road accident along Nakuru-Eldoret Road

Fifteen people have died and several others injured in a grisly accident involving a bus and a Northways Shuttle along the Nakuru-Eldoret highway.

According to the police, the accident happened in the wee hours of Tuesday, January 9, 2023, at Twin Bridge bridge area.

The Northways shuttle collided head-on with the bus belonging to Classic Kings of Congo, claiming 15 lives on the spot.

Several other people were injured and were rushed to Molo Sub-County Hospital by police officers from Mau Summit Police Station who responded to the scene.

Accidents along the Nakuru-Eldoret highway have been on the rise in the recent past, with the National Police Service now appealing to all motorists to exercise extreme caution on the roads to prevent road crashes.

On January 6, 2024, at about 0500hrs at Mustard area along Nakuru-Eldoret highway, a fatal road traffic accident involving 3 Isuzu motor vehicles and a Mercedes Benz trailer claimed one life and left several other passengers injured.

Road Accident Along Narok-Bomet Road

A grisly road accident involving a Toyota Hiace matatu belonging to Transcar Galaxy Sacco and Mitsubishi Fuso lorry Tegero area along Narok-Bomet road has left one person dead and several others injured.

According to the police, the accident happened at about 0115hours on Monday, January 8, 2024.

The accident happened a s a result of a head-on collision.

The driver of the Toyata Hiace matatu died on the spot. Five passengers sustained serious injuries while 11 others were slightly injured.

The injury victims were all rushed to Narok County Referral Hospital where they are undergoing treatment.

The deceased’s body was also moved to the same hospital’s mortuary where it will undergo autopsy.

Police officers from Ololulunga Police Station processed the scene.

Three people died on the spot while twenty others suffered serious injuries after they were involved in a road accident at Mida area along the Malindi-Mombasa Highway on Saturday night.

The accident involved a matatu and a private Toyota Wish car.

Confirming the accident, Malindi Traffic Police Commander George Naybei said the matatu, which was carrying 14 passengers, was heading to Mombasa from Malindi and collided head-on with the saloon car heading in the opposite direction.

The traffic police boss said the driver of the saloon car was trying to overtake another vehicle at high speed before colliding with the matatu.

Naybei said the driver died on the spot and confirmed the injured were rushed to Malindi subcounty hospital.

The hospital’s Medical Superintendent Doctor Evans Ogato said the 22 had serious injuries including broken limbs, arms and ribs.

He said the bodies of the deceased were taken to the hospital’s mortuary.

Naybei urged drivers to be cautious while driving on the road to avoid such accidents
