Deputy President William Ruto has defied a directive by President Uhuru Kenyatta to make contributions through the Covid-19 Emergency Response Fund, details have emerged.

The Fund was established by President Kenyatta to coordinate all donations in relation to the ongoing pandemic.

Ruto has instead been distributing food through a network of religious institutions and politicians.

Using churches, mosques and MPs the DP, who has stayed away from the public limelight, has for the last month been distributing weekly food rations.

The food is being distributed with firm instructions that there should be no publicity.

A source involved in the distribution said, “Last week we fed 11,152 families. This week we have fed 16,600 families.”

The packages contain a 2kg packet of unga, 1kg beans and 400ml cooking oil.

Churches in the network that Ruto is using include the Kenya Assemblies of God, Pentecostal Assemblies of God and PEFA

Sisters with a Mission are also distributing dry rations and Iftar vouchers to vulnerable Muslim communities during Ramadhan with support of the DP.

Speaking at Jamia Mosque, Supkem secretary general Mohamed Mahat said they were very happy that Ruto was supporting the vulnerable.

“We have never seen a person support an entire community as Ruto has done. This shows love and concern for the vulnerable. It is ironic that the person offering sadaka and help to the people, also needs help from what he faces every day,” he said.

National Assembly Majority leader Aden Duale said Ruto was focused on making the lives of Kenyans easier and not petty politics and drama.

“Ndugu makamu wa rais amekuwa na sisi na anatoa kila constituency ya waislamu [Our brother the deputy president has stood with us throughout and has supported every Muslim constituency],” Duale said.

A section of Kenyans on Twitter have reminded Nairobi governor Mike Sonko of his past, shortly after he threatened to take interior Permanent Secretary Karanja Kibicho to International Criminal Court (ICC).

Sonko through his social media handles Wednesday morning said that he was studying the Rome statues and engaging local and international lawyers to deal with those involved in the demolition of residential houses in Korogocho, Kariobangi North in Nairobi.

Sonko argues that such incidents have been happening under the instructions of PS Kibicho, Nairobi Regional Commissioner (RC) Wilson Njega and Nairobi Regional Police Commander Philip Ndolo .

Sonko says that the trio must be taken to ICC for breaching articles 1.5, 53 and 7(1)(k) of the Rome Statute of the International Criminal Court. He wants them charged with a serious crime against humanity.

However, a section of KOT have reminded Sonko of some of his past, which they now believe is haunting the embattled County chief.

Some reminded Sonko of the time he used to record phone calls between him and prominent people, arguing that should he not have done so, he would not not be facing all the problems that he is currently facing.

Some reminded him of the time he was demonstrating at the Hague, outside the ICC demanding respect for President Uhuru Kenyatta, at the time the head of state and his deputy William Ruto were facing a case at the court.

The embattled Nairobi boss has also been reminded of the time he poured raw sewage at the Jacaranda grounds in Donhom, just to prevent the then NASA presidential candidate Raila Odinga from addressing a rally.

Here are some of the reactions.

Kariobangi residents Monday morning woke up to find their homes being brought down without any prior notice.

At least 5,000 families are now homeless following demolitions that took place in Korogocho slums, Kariobangi North, Nairobi.

The demolitions were done after they were given 24 hours to vacate the land the government says was grabbed from Dandora Estate Waste Sewerage Treatment Plant in Ruai.

The victims say that the area DC and OCPD only gave them a verbal notice on Sunday to move out by the end of the day.

The incident has angered Nairobi governor Mike Mbuvi Sonko, who on Wednesday morning, took to his social media accounts to express his disappointment in people he believes are behind the unfortunate incident.

The embattled County boss, in a long Facebook post accused Interior Permanent Secretary Karanja Kibicho of being behind the scheme. He calimed that it is Kibicho who had even ignored a High Court order, and went ahead to vandalise Covid-19 sanitisation booths that he had installed in Nairobi.

Sonko further threatened to take those involved, to International Criminal Court, to be charged with serious crimes against humanity.

However, in his protest post, Sonko defended President Uhuru Kenyatta, arguing that the head of state is not aware of the incident.

He accused those around President Kenyatta of being behind various schemes to destroy the country.

“I’m 100% sure the President is not aware about this but I have been saying the people around my Boss are messing this country,” Sonko said in part of his post.

However, Sonko’s defence against the head of state seems to have gone wrong. A section of Kenyans on twitter have blasted the troubled governor, saying that he has always been protecting President Kenyatta.

According to KOT, it is President Kenyatta who has been giving orders for the incidents Sonko is protesting against. They further argue that it is the head of state who want Sonko out, thus the currently being witnessed militariustion of Nairobi county.

Some have blasted Sonko for calling President Kenyatta his boss, arguing that Nairobi people who voted him in, are his right bosses.

Take a look at some of the reactions.

Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko has threatened to take Interior Permanent Secretary Karanja Kibicho to an International Criminal Court (ICC), at the Hague.

Sonko in a protest letter posted on his social media handles Wednesday morning said that he was studying the Rome statues and engaging local and international lawyers to deal with the case in which thousands on Nairobi residents residing in Korogocho, Kariobangi area, were left homeless after their houses were vandalised without proper notice.

The embattled County chief argues that such incidents have been happening under the instructions of PS Kibicho, Nairobi Regional Commissioner (RC) Wilson Njega and Nairobi Regional Police Commander Philip Ndolo .

Sonko says that the trio must be taken to ICC for breaching articles 1.5, 53 and 7(1)(k) of the Rome Statute of the International Criminal Court.

He wants them charged with a serious crime against humanity.

In his arguement, Sonko has defended President Uhuru Kenyatta, citing that he is 100% sure the head of state is not aware of the incidents.

He argues that it is people around the first in command that are messing with he country.

He notes that PS Kibicho defied a high court order just the same way he defied an order Sonko had secured against the vandalism of the public sanitization booths, and send heavily armed police officers to supervise an illegal eviction and demolition during the deadly Covid-19 pandemic period.

Sonko adds that it is a curse for the elderly, Children and their Mothers to sleep in the rains just because the only place they have been calling home has been vandalised, amid the Covid-19 pandemic.

“I’m 100% sure the President is not aware about this but I have been saying the people around my Boss are messing this country. How on earth do you defy a high court order just the same way they defied an order we secured against the vandalism of the public sanitization booths and send heavily armed police officers to supervise an illegal eviction and demolition during this deadly Covid-19 pandemic period.

” The elderly, Children and their Mothers are sleeping in the rains, what a curse? Let me study the Rome statues and engage the local and international lawyers to deal with this issue, coz this is a serious crime against humanity and this is the right time PS Interior Karanja Kibicho, Nairobi RC Wilson Njega and Nairobi Regional Police Commander Philip Ndolo MUST be taken to ICC for breaching articles 1.5, 53 and 7(1)(k) of the Rome Statute of the International Criminal Court,” reads part of Sonko’s statement on Facebook.

At least four Cabinet Secretaries are reportedly on their way out in a looming Cabinet reshuffle.

According to reports, two of the Cabinet Secretaries are allied to Deputy President William Ruto with the remaining two two on President Uhuru Kenyatta’s side.

Daily Nation on Monday, May 4 reported that a powerful Cabinet Secretary is also to be moved to a lesser ministry.

The Cabinet reshuffle comes after an alleged meeting between Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) leader Raila Odinga, Kenya African National Union (KANU) party leader Gideon Moi and Central Organization of Trade Unions (COTU) boss Francis Atwoli.

Others said to have attended the meetings are former Cabinet Minister Paul Otuoma and Siaya Senator James Orengo.

According to Tiaty MP William Kamket, the changes were inevitable and would come “in any form, at any time”.

He claims that Ruto had failed in his role of supporting the President.

“Between William Ruto and Raila Odinga, who supports President Kenyatta? Between Gideon Moi and William Ruto, who supports the President’s agenda?

“The answer is clear, these two leaders are not meant to be just choir members in this government when some people viciously attack it.

“The President has been quiet when they make noise, attack him and now it is time to act. He has waited for them to make true their threats and to walk out but they are hesitant. It is now time to kick them out, and it will happen very soon,” he stated.

Political leaders affiliated to Deputy President William Ruto have announced plans to bypass Jubilee party Secretary-General Raphael Tuju.

The disgruntled politicians plan to convene a National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting without involving Mr Tuju. The NEC has not met since the 2017 elections.

The Secretary-General had stated that he is not able to convene the meeting because he is operating on an acing capacity.

“As it is, we are currently operating under Article 33 of the Constitution, the transitional clause. Under this law, I cannot purport to claim to be the bonafide Secretary-General, and this applies to all other officials on acting capacity. As such, it is difficult for even me to convene the demanded NEC when I don’t have a full mandate as an elected official,” Tuju was quoted by a local daily.

The DP’s allies now state that Tuju’s deputy, Soy MP Caleb Kositany, who is allowed by the party constitution to deputise the SG, will convene the meeting.

SG Tuju offended a section of Jubilee party members after he submitted a list of changes to names of the party’s National Management Committee (NMC) to the Registrar of political parties.

Kositany in a protest letter on Friday noted it is not going to be business as usual in the running of party affairs.

“Arrangements are currently underway to convene the NEC meeting in compliance with the directions issued by the Registrar of Political Parties on 16th April, 2020. The registrar directed that any such changes should be made in accordance with the procedures and processes of the Jubilee party constitution and structures,” the disgruntled MPs stated in a letter.

Mr Kositany on Sunday added: “Look at the party constitution. We have many options. We are preparing for the meeting, where we intend to make right all wrongs that have been done in Jubilee. It is not going to be business as usual.”

Gatundu South Member of Parliament Moses Kuria has dragged Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party leader Raila Odinga into the firing of Nicholas Gumbo as Chair of Kenyatta National Hospital.

The Controversial lawmaker Thursday morning took to his social media pages to question why Raila fired Engineer Gumbo.

Kuria questioned whether Raila feared if Gumbo will floor his brother Oburu Odinga in the 2022 Siaya gubernatorial race. He went ahead to say that Luo Nyanza region won’t take off if Raila continues extinguishing hope inspiring candles like Gumbo.

He further questioned whether Raila cares if Luo Nyanza region takes off or not, arguing that he extinguished Oduol and Siaya has lost a decade under current governor Cornel Rasanga Amoth.

Citing that Raila is President Uhuru Kenyatta’s co-President, Kuria went ahead to advise the former premier to use his powers realising that there is God in heaven.

“Dear Raila Odinga. Why did you fire Eng Nicholas Gumbo as Chair of Kenyatta National Hospital ? How many COVID billions are you expecting at KNH that you want a compliant man ? Or is it because Gumbo will beat Oburu 10-0 for Siaya Governor 2022? When you keep extinguishing hope inspiring candles like Gumbo, how do you expect Luo Nyanza to take off? Or do you even care whether Luo Nyanza takes off or not? You extinguished Oduol and Siaya has lost a decade under Rasanga Amoth. Now another decade you want lost. Yes you are co-President today but use your power realising there is a God in heaven,” read his post.

President Kenyatta appointed George Opondo Ooko as the new Kenyatta National Hospital (KNH) board chairperson.

President Kenyatta, in a gazette notice, appointed Mr. Ooko to the position on a two-year term effective April 21, 2020.

The Head of State hence revoked the appointment of Nicholas Gumbo who has been serving as the KNH Board Chair since May last year.

Nairobi Governor Mike Mbuvi Sonko has send a strong message to people working at President Uhuru Kenyatta’s Harambee House office, whom he feels are intimidating him.

His message comes days after the embattled County chief faced humiliation from unnamed people who are close to President Kenyatta.

The Nairobi County boss last week had his security details withdrawn both from his Mua Hills home and his private office in Upper Hill, as well as having his Covid-19 sanitisation booths that had been installed in Nairobi CBD and Kibra vandalised.

Sonko in his Tuesday night message told his Harambee House friends that Power comes, power goes, power is temporary, and transient but the will of the people, and the will of God, is eternal.

He went ahead to remind them that in the 1990’s, Hon. Nicholas Biwott (RIP) was the most powerful man, probably across Africa, but before his demise, he used to sit lonely at a corner at the Serena Hotel, and very few people even bothered to say hi to him.

He further reminded them of 2006, when President Kenyatta was the official opposition.

Sonko said that in 2006, there was a stand off between Hawkers and the Police, and President Kenyatta stepped in to help quell the crisis, but his efforts did not succeed after senior officers at the OP directed the then Nairobi PPO to instruct his officers on the ground to disperse the hawkers and the then the leader of official opposition Uhuru Kenyatta by tear gassing them.

By then, Sonko says, nobody knew that he would one day become President.

“Sometimes in 2006, there was a stand off between Hawkers and the Police. The current President stepped in to help quell the crisis, but his efforts did not succeed after senior officers at the OP directed the then Nairobi PPO to instruct his officers on the ground to disperse the hawkers and the then the leader of official opposition Uhuru Kenyatta by tear gassing them. Nobody then knew that he would one day become President,” he posted.

This seems to be a clear message that as much as his intimidation continues, he will at some point rise to power in this Country, since the Supreme Will of God has never faltered, neither floundered.

President Uhuru Kenyatta has today (Saturday April 25) at State House, Nairobi signed into law the Tax Laws (Amendment) Bill, 2020.

The new tax law amends several statutes to cushion the economy and Kenyans against the effects of the Covid-19 pandemic as announced by the Head of State.

The Amendment Bill, which was published on 30th March 2020, has amended tax-related laws in Kenya including the Income Tax Act (CAP 470), the Value Added Tax Act of 2013, the Excise Duty Act (2015), the Tax Procedures Act (2015), Miscellaneous Levies and Fees Act (2016) and the Retirement Benefits Act(1997).

The amendments include the raise in the threshold for turnover tax to between one million and fifty million shillings so as to exclude small-scale traders from the presumptive tax. The new law further lowers turnover tax rate from 3 to 1 percent.

The amended law, which mainly targets low-income earners, includes a 100 percent Pay As You Earn (PAYE) tax relief for employees earning less than Shs 28,000 per month. Those earning above the new threshold will benefit from a PAYE tax reduction of between 30 and 25 percent.

Similarly, the new Act has revised Corporation Tax to 25 percent while Non-Resident Tax on Dividends has been adjusted from 10 to 15 percent.

The amended law lowers the Value Added Tax rate from 16 to 14 percent, a move that is expected to lower the shelf prices of basic commodities.

The new Act, has amended Section 38 of the Retirement Benefits Act (1997) to allow access of retirement benefits for purposes of purchase of a residential house. This is aimed at increasing home ownership in the country as envisaged in the housing pillar under Big 4 Agenda.

The Bill, which was presented to the President for signature by National Assembly Speaker Justin Muturi was passed by Parliament on Wednesday this week.

Present during the brief signing ceremony were National Assembly Majority Leader Aden Duale, National Treasury Cabinet Secretary Ukur Yatani, Solicitor General Ken Ogeto, State House Chief of Staff Nzioka Waita, National Assembly Clerk Michael Sialai and State House Deputy Chief of Staff Njee Muturi.

President Uhuru Kenyatta has mourned the 29 Kenyans who lost their lives in Elgeyo Marakwet and West Pokot due to the mudslides.

Speaking on Saturday April 25 from State House, Nairobi, the President said that his administration continues to make every effort to support the affected families and communities across the country.

“I mourn the 29 Kenyans we have lost in Elgeyo Marakwet and West Pokot. My Administration continues to make every effort to support affected families and communities across the country,” President Kenyatta said.

The head of state further urged those living in dangerous areas such as escarpments to relocate to safer areas.

His statement comes a day after Elgeyo Marakwet Senator Kipchumba Murkomen accused the government of neglecting the victims.

Murkomen through his twiiter handle on Friday said that 23 bodies were still missing in Marakwet landslide tragedy, forcing locals to launch search for their loved ones on their own.

Murkomen accused Rift Valley regional commissioner George Natembeya of moving to the scene, taking pictures and leaving without doing anything.

“23 bodies are still missing in Marakwet landslide tragedy. These people are searching for their loved ones. RC Natembeya and the Military went their took pictures and left. meanwhile thousands of them are without shelter. What the hell is going on in this country?” Murkomen posted.

Hundreds of the survivors have sought refuge in churches and schools while others are being accommodated by their relatives.

At Kipchumwa location where the landslide started, more than 300 residents are huddled at AIC Wewo Church with no food and sanitation facilities.

The government has sent some help but much of it is being directed to Chesegon and Sambalat areas, which were hard hit by the mudslides. Seventeen other people are still missing.

Rift Valley Regional Commissioner George Natembeya said the government was doing its best to provide food to the displaced and asked those still living on the escarpment to relocate before another disaster strikes.

He said a command centre had been set up at Sambalat Primary School and Cheptulel Secondary School in the respective counties to coordinate recovery efforts and relief missions.

West Pokot was one of the areas badly affected by heavy rains in November and December last year when more than 40 people died after massive landslides.

Former State House Director of Digital and Diaspora Communication Dennis Itumbi has badly exposed renown political analyst Mutahi Ngunyi.

Mutahi Ngunyi had been earlier accused of scripting last Sunday’s Punchline show, a political talk show that airs every Sunday night on K24 Tv, hosted by Anne Kiguta.

In the show, Mutahi Ngunyi was the main guest, among several others.

During the show, a scathing attack was launched against Deputy President Dr William Ruto, with even the host declaring using facts, that the second in command will never be the President of Kenya.

Anne Kiguta, on behalf of K24 TV, stated that DP Ruto had no chance of becoming President in 2022.

She said K24 TV had made the prediction after observing the infighting for the control of Jubilee Party over the past week.

Kiguta said there was no doubt that President Uhuru Kenyatta had a fall out with his deputy who she accused of faking togetherness where there was none.

While reporting these events that have followed, we have often debated why the DP has stayed where he is clearly not wanted, why face the humiliation? why create the illusion that all is well while clearly, it’s not? why create the image of togetherness where there is none? How does it benefit the DP?

For many of DP’s allies is that they have mistakenly thought that they could force the President into the past days working together…we observe only way out for the DP and that its – stop fighting reality. Living in the real world as horrible as it is frees you to make decisions that can work in the present,” K24’s editorial continued as read out by Ms Kiguta.

However, Itumbi on the morning of Friday April 24, revealed that it was Mutahi Ngunyi who scripted the editorial piece that was read by Anne Kiguta.

Itumbi went ahead to reveal that it was indeed Mutahi Ngunyi who invited guests on the show. To prove this, Itumbi exposed private chats that Mutahi Ngunyi had with some of the guests on the show.

Image

“Goodmorning my Friend @MutahiNgunyi – Be slow to DENY next time buddy. You not only scripted #Punchline for @AnneKiguta – You also invited guests to the show. #SystemYaFacts,” he tweeted.

On April 20, Mutahi Ngunyi had denied the allegations of scripting the editorial piece for K24 TV, arguing that the editorial had nothing but panashe.

“Hello my FREN @OleItumbi. I think @AnneKiguta Editorial on #Punchline had NOTHING but Panashe (google word). And thanks for SUGGESTING that I wrote it with my @5thestateKE gang. In the MEANTIME, read a BOOK my FREN! It makes a lot of DIFFERENCE! ” he posted.

By the time of publishing this article, Mutahi Ngunyi had not yet responded to Dennis Itumbi’s latest allegations.

President Uhuru Kenyatta will form a coalition ahead of 2022 elections should his deputy Dr William Ruto leave the ruling party ahead of his 2022 political quest, David Murathe has revealed.

Ever since Murathe returned to Jubilee party, DP Ruto has no peace, and is now pointing blame fingers at some party officials whom he has termed as fraudsters.

But in an interview with a local daily, Murathe stated that he is not afraid of DP Ruto dumping Jubilee.

“It has reached a point in DP Ruto’s camp that they have to go or we leave the party to them,” said Murathe.

However, he hinted at a possibility of forming a coalition with opposition leaders ahead of 2022 elections to face off with DP Ruto.

“We can go form alliances with Raila Odinga, Kalonzo Musyoka, Musalia Mudavadi and Gideon Moi,” he added.

He also cautioned the DP against confronting President Uhuru Kenyatta over the looming changes in the leadership of the party.

“When he is saying there are fraudsters in the party, does it mean that Uhuru Kenyatta is one of them?,” asked Murathe.

Murathe slammed DP Ruto for taking internal party affairs in social media rather than addressing them through the right channels.

“I am shocked that the Deputy President can go and prosecute matters of the party on social media, yet he is the same person who told us he talks to Uhuru every day,” said David Murathe.

The Deputy President and the TangaTanga brigade have been at war with Uhuru’s allies on who controls the party ahead of 2022.

In what seems to be a marriage on the rock, It is only a matter of time before the Jubilee party explodes into pieces ahead of 2022.

Controversial political analyst Mutahi Ngunyi has hinted at the next Mt Kenya kingpin.

Ngunyi, in an interview with K24 on Sunday night, identified Health Cabinet Secretary Mutahi Kagwe as the man who might be picked to lead the region henceforth, terming him ‘the possible chief in waiting’.

“CS Mutahi Kagwe is a possible chief in waiting among the Kikuyus,” said the man behind the ‘tyranny of numbers’ prediction, where he foresaw Uhuru enjoying the backing of majority of MPs ahead of his 2013 election, a prophecy that came to pass.

He based the observation on Kagwe’s performance in his current position, stating that he has done a brilliant job as the main man in the ongoing battle against the Coronavirus pandemic.

He said that he can see another former President Mwai Kibaki in the CS, adding that he might end up leading the Kikuyu community as Kibaki did between 2002 and 2013, before handing over to Uhuru.

“I think he has done his job splendidly. He interned in the school as Kibaki. He speaks and acts like Kibaki,” he added.

But his remarks might not amuse Kirinyaga governor Anne Waiguru, who until recently, was being seen as one of the frontrunners in the race to take over from Uhuru come 2022.

Waiguru has been very vocal about Mt Kenya affairs lately, which has made her appear interested in leading the community post Uhuru.

Last year, she said that the region is ready to support former Prime Minister Raila Odinga for the presidency. The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM ) leader has for a very long time been unwanted in the region.

A number of commentators have also been suggesting that she might feature in the next government, especially in case of an expansion of the executive, as a representative of the region.

Deputy President Dr William Ruto is crying fowl after some officials of Jubilee party got changed without his knowlegdge.

The second in command on Friday evening took to his official twitter account to slam those involved in changing a section of the officials.

The seemingly angry Ruto said that as Kenyans are focused on fighting COVID-19 pandemic, some people, whom he has termed as shadowy characters are attempting to fraudulently institute illegal changes in the officials of the President Uhuru Kenyatta-led party.

The DP however, has vowed to fight on and ensure that the illegal changes don’t happen.

In his twitter post, Ruto cites that he had already alerted the registrar of the alleged fraud.

He further urged Jubilee Party members to remain calm, noting that the matter was being handled.

” As Kenyans are focused on the Covid-19 pandemic, some shadowy characters are attempting to FRAUDULENTLY institute ILLEGAL changes in officials of Jubilee party. As deputy leader I have alerted the registrar of the fraud. Party members should know that the matter is being handled,” he tweeted.

Ruto shared a gazette notice number 3084 that showed the officials that have been changed.

The notice dated April 6, 2020 and addressed to registrar of parties in Kenya Ann Nderitu indicates various changes in the National Management Committee of Jubilee party.

From Mountain hiking to cooking, driving to singing, Senate Majority Leader Kipchumba Murkomen holds a multiple of talents.

Just a few months ago, Murkomen set the internet ablaze after showing off his cooking prowess.

The Elgeyo Marakwet Senator mesmerized Kenyans with the brown ugali he cooked.

That aside, just a day after President Uhuru Kenyatta instructed the Ministry of Sports, Culture and Heritage to give Ksh 100 million to musicians, Murkomen decided to test whether he can qualify to be on the receiving list of the money with a splendid choice of song.

Singing in a relatively low but accurate voice, the Senator springs into a wonderful melody as he drove in his car, much to the amusement of many Kenyans.

Captioning his video, Murkomen noted that President Kenyatta never said that best musicians are the ones to be paid. He said that the head of state meant just any musician.

” Hakuna mahali Rais alisema mwimbaji bora, ni bora mwimbaji…! ” he captioned his video.
